From what I read, he didn't suck defensively before the he had an ankle.
Personally I'd prefer a dude that is more of a pass-first/defensive minded kind of back-up...
especially considering Stuckey is our starter and our bench consists of the offensive minded Gordon and Nova.
Guys like that must be hard to find, or Joe doesn't value them because I've been wanting that kind of PG on this team since Chauncey was signed.

As far as Bynum, he's still the best playmaker on the team, and he does it while playing with backups/scrubs and he still manages to be a threat to get his own and defenses have to honor that.
And for his defensive shortcomings, I'll take a guy that struggles a bit due to his size as long as he's a bulldog that plays balls out. You can never question his effort.
he's the best playmaker on both teams.
Maybe someday he'll be an even better one for us than he is for the team wearing the different jerseys.
Watson was at one time exactly who I wanted but how old is he now?

We simply can't go and get them, though...
we had pepe sanchez for a year. He was the perfect pass-first defensive PG. Never got off the bench for us, though.
BTW I would kill for Grevis Vasquez in the draft, assuming we dont get Wall.
Unfortunately, he's playing himself into the 1st round.
Oh, and BTW:
The only time Bynum's "poor" D really hurts us is when the opposing PG beats Will, drives into the paint (drawing our bigs) and then drops it off for what is essentially an uncontested lay up or dunk.
If the opposing PG actually kicks it out the defensive rotations should be good enough to not leave a perimeter shooter open in that situation...
especially when you consider that Bynum got beat and is now guarding no one.

Where would he rotate too? It's not like he's the only guard in the NBA to get beaten off the dribble.
Where do those guards rotate too once their man is on his way to the hole?
Couldn't Will drop down in an attempt to intercept the drop off pass?
Could he foul the receiver?
It's not as simple as "Bynum got beat and we gave up an open lay up".

Quality pass-first guy though - could run an offensive really well.

Sanchez was John Cheaney's favorite PG ever at Temple. He was a defensive god there. He did the same thing for team Argentina for a decade.

It's also not as simple as "bynum got beat off the dribble." Bynum gets beat off the ball just as much. He has no concept of defending back door plays and give and go plays. No need, unless he's been instructed to attempt to deny, deny, deny.
And denying any player the ball in today;'s game is extremely difficult due to hand checking/body checking rules.
Bynum would be better off keeping an arms length between himself and his man in order to help him either move around picks/screens and/or to avoid being beaten off the dribble.
Of course, Johnny Q and his crew would know this, yet Bynum is still chest to chest with his man.
Must be a reason for it and that reason is (pure speculaion here) because they want Bynum to get up under his man and annoy, distract and deny.
he does it every play, and he's been doing that since he got here, for two different coaches.
He just has no defensive IQ. He focuses on ball-hawking so much that he totally loses track of the guy he's supposed to be guarding.
I agree. I love greivis vazquez. He's going to be the steal of the draft. He's still a bit careless but I think his game is better suited for the NBA. Don't worry, he'll play himself back into the first round after the NCAA tournament he's about to have.Quote:

I'm not inclined to piss on Bynum as a starter after a game when he does something pretty special. A Piston hasn't racked up 20 assists in a game since 1985, when Isiah jacked up the dimes to win the single-season record.

Stuckey should be the full-time starter - at SG.
Bynum should be the 3rd guard on the team, first off the bench.
The starter at PG would be some dude that's approx 6'3" 200lbs, can shoot the 3 and run an offense.
Ideally that dude would be a bit of a veteran, helping Stuckey learn the ins and outs of being a NBA PG.
But that's just my opinion and comes from fantasy land where BG and Rip both aren't here making #10 mil per
I agree with Pharoah. However, I still think Rodney can pan out as a PG when a better offense and a scoring big man come along.
This ideal PG sounds a little bit like the guy we traded away two years ago.
