Shamir (Tel Aviv, Israel): I’ve always like Chris Wilcox and it’s fair to say he’s worth $3 million a year. But if this year’s Pistons are in rebuilding mode, I don’t understand why we gave Amir Johnson away. He’s five years younger with more upside and the same salary. Don’t you think this could and still might be Amir’s breakout year?
Langlois: There were a few things we saw last year from Amir, when he was getting regular minutes against other frontline players, that made me rethink what his future might be. Amir can be a dynamic team defensive player, but he also has trouble guarding both in the post and out on the floor. His lack of strength, particularly below the waist, really puts him at a disadvantage when he’s guarding power forwards. And he also seems to have trouble moving his feet laterally. That led to a lot of fouls that continue to plague him. He still has youth on his side, but I don’t know if he has the frame to substantially change the fact that guarding big men will remain a struggle.
Hilarious how he'll trash Amir...now.
