His inconsistency was part of the reason he was available.
Note that Hayes is getting his career numbers.
My take on Herrmann is that if he's given consistent minutes, he'll produce as Tay's backup, but that's more a gut feeling than anything. Hayes D is bad (but not totally horrible), so when his shot isn't falling, there isn't much else there.
all he does is shoot jumpers. of course he's gonna be inconsistent.

Pistons sign Walter Herrmann to 1-year deal
By VINCE ELLIS • FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER • August 1, 2008
The Pistons have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with backup Walter Herrmann.
The 6-foot-9 small forward was an unrestricted free agent and salary information was not disclosed.
The Pistons acquired Herrmann last season from the Charlotte Bobcats as part of the trade that shipped out center Nazr Mohammed.
Herrmann, a 29-year-old Argentine, appeared in only 28 games for the Pistons, but the team likes his size, toughness and three-point ability. He averaged 7.1 minutes and 3.0 points per game for Detroit.
Me too. He'll get more PT because I don't think Sharpe is ready yet.
