Of course Joe D fucked up. He has been doing that lately seemingly undoing all of the good that he did in the past.
Oh and by the way, Afflalo is shooting 54% and averaging just under 10 points off the bench for Denver. I'm sure glad we traded him to pick up Wilcox (sarcasm). Joe D must have had a stroke or something because his decisions are fucking horrible lately.
Yes, because Afflalo would have kicked ass here shooting %0 and getting 0 minutes off the bench!
I believe Mick's point is that we didn't absolutely have to sign Ben Gordon.
We had options.
Like, um - simply re-sign Sheed and Dice for another year and signing someone like Andre Miller for "Nova" money?
Or make some trades with all that cap space.
Anyway, I asked GD this question the other day and am gonna throw this out there to everyone:
After signing Ben Gordon does anyone wonder why Joe didn't simply re-sign Sheed and Dice for another season (using the money we gave to Nova and Wilcox)?
You get Ben Wallace and Chucky still. You have our 3 rooks still. Team:
C: Ben/Kwame
F: Sheed/Dice/Maxiell/Jerebko
F: Prince/Daye/Summers
G: Rip/Gordon
G: Stuckey/Bynum/Chucky
I do believe that was an option Joe had. He simply declined to go that route. My question is why?
I have no doubt that Sheed had worn out his welcome, there was no way he was being brought back. Dice was just a casualty of the rebuilding process, imo, which Tay should have been also. They drove the dude into the ground, have him a big contract, witnessed his production drop off and drafted like 7 guys this year that play the same position. This summer was the time to bail on him. And I'm done playing the "Hay, what offers were really out there?" game every time Dumars fucks up. It's just another way of blindly saying "Dumars is God, trust in Him". If you can't see that the mistakes are coming fast and furious, than you are either fucking blind or you're a Kstat-caliber fanboy. My trust in Joe is all but gone.

Also, you can't deliver a solution that entails giving big money to over the hill guys past their 30s, when the entire fanbase was bitching about going with a youth movement. We signed the two best young free agents on the market. Does it suck that one of them plays the same position as rip? Sure, but at this point in time the pistons arent in a position to turn down young talent. And one of them has been the best player on the team this season. Want doom and gloom? Picture this season without Ben Gordon and we're most likely 0-6.
Tayshaun might not be out more than a month. All the hang wringing over something as stupid as a ruptured disc is laughable. He absolutely can still be traded, as long as someone actually wants to give up something of value for him.
And as has already been fucking mentioned, the Pistons have TWO rookies that are looking pretty good right now, and a third that will see some time at some point this season. That's not a terrible result from having Tayshaun out so far, and its also not bad for a GM that everyone seems to think is incompetent, to find several contributors in a draft everybody was shitting on to begin with.
This is my problem with people like glan. They love to hold others accountable, but take absolutely not responsibility for what they say. Whatever way the win is blowing, they act like that has been their crusade all along. By next week, the popular opinion will totally change again to something else that happens, and he will act like he's been talking about it for years.

The only pieces of any value added since the title are:
Dice, Stuckey, Gordon, Nova and our current rooks.
We've lost Dice, and all we had to do to acquire the other dudes is go from being a title contender with a chance of a dynasty (remember how we all thought that Memphis pick was gonna make us LEGENDARY?) to a borderline playoff contender.
And while I don't wanna harp on about DRAFTING the fact remains it's the cheapest and easiest way to acquire talent. We've spent the majority of Joe's tenure fucking it up on a yearly fucking basis.

BTW, I don't really think Sheed was coming back even if we wanted him, with Doc Rivers giving him the grant hill 12am handjob treatment.
That said, I stand by that there was no legit reason to even try to bring him back. His talent no longer outweighs his headaches.
