In a perfect world, maybe, but this seems like one of those finesse moves that is executed when a GM knows he's done making trades for the year.

If he had another big trade in mind, then why wouldn't he have held onto Acker's contract until the deadline for possible matching purposes?

According to RealGM, the 2013 pick from the Clippers is top 55 protected. There's no protection on the 2011 2nd rounder we're sending to the Clippers.
