Official WTFDetroit Movie Review Thread

I just got back from POC 2, it is a 7 or 8 imo. It is very long 2.5 hours but keeps you interested for being a sequel it was above average compared to most. There were a lot of lighter moments and outrageous scenes but I really enjoyed it.

However sort of a Spoiler, it leaves you knowing there is a third movie in the end and the two movies are connected. I know that is was announced that there would be a two and three just didn't realize they would be connected beyond the main characters in terms of storyline.

JS, I think they shot parts 2 and 3 at the same time, that's what I heard at least.

There's some types of movie endings -- it's a few years later and everyone who matters got their just desserts -- that'd work out well with a dozen different funny little endings, especially in the age of DVD extras. Of course, for the ultimate in multiple endings done right, see Clue.

just thought WTF? pirates of the carribean..even had to go to yahoo movies to see..opening this week...doh.

Anyone get to see Little Man this weekend? I figured it would be one that I wouldn't even be tempted to see, but I've heard some people liked it and thought it was actually entertaining.

Any reviews?

Looking at the previews, it looks boring. Maybe a few laughs but would be a waste of money, well atleast for me.

Pink Panther--9/10

Really well done, hilarious movie. Steve Martin is excellent at what he does.

And Beyonce...oh my fucking God...

I fucking hate Steve Martin.

He just annoys the hell out of me.

And I'm all for alternate endings, but only if they're actually really different.

The Jacket's alternate's were too similar IMO.

I saw Superduperman Returns. Between Gutz and this guy, I think they've captured my sentiments well:

i saw 'a scanner darkly'. it was a bit confusing but it pretty much ties together by the end... make sure you wont have to pee or get more popcorn or you will be really confused. it ended too soon though, coulda used about 15 more minutes to truly finish the story rather than just leaving you with the idea of what will happen. maybe a sequel coming? overall a thumbs up. just the animation is cool enough. id give it a 7/10.

For some reason, I'm getting to the theater a lot lately. That's good, but it's a fucking expensive habit.

Click--7/10. Much better when it doesn't try to be funny.

Nacho Libre--9/10. Starts of slow as hell but gets really funny, then goes toward a nice, if conservative, ending.

i liked signs and unbreakable myself. the village was utter garbage though. i heard lady in the water was tight. but i'll find out for myself probally.

M. Night = horror? WTF?

How are his movies horror movies?

Sixth Sense was awesome, but not a horror.

Unbreakable was obvious (2 stars and Bruce Willis is the hero. That makes Samuel the bad guy, right? Took me 3 seconds to work that out, and I was drunk)

Signs? Good, but not great. And certainly not a horror movie.

The Village? LAME AS FUCK! How many twists can we squeeze in? 2 or 3? How about 4? Maybe more? Kill it! Not a horror.

The Lady in the Water looks excellent and is not a horror movie.

M Night movies are all about the suspense. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and sometimes the fact he relies on the big twist fucks it up completely.

Oh, WTF is "a scanner darkly"? Never even heard of it. Who's in it? Director? etc

Superman Returns--9/10

Two complaints:

1. Kate Bosworth sucks at acting.

2. This movie follows the original one way too faithfully and those who see both movies can make obvious comparisons.

Other than that, fantastic movie with great performances by Spacey and Routh. Even if the plot is a little far-fetched.

I saw parts of Unbreakable, never the whole thing from start to finish. It didn't really do it for me. Maybe I'm just not a comic book kind of guy.

LOL - if you see any scene featuring Willis and Samuel in Unbreakable it's pretty obvious WTF is gonna happen.

There should have been another "name" actor in there, just for mis-direction.

Good idea for a movie but poorly done IMO.

Same goes with "5 people you meet in Heaven". Good idea, but the flick was boring as fuck.

A Scanner Darkly sounds pretty good, too. Thanks for the heads up.

I just saw "the Clearing". It was a very simple movie about a kidnapping. the title of the movie becomes fairly relevent when the ending plays out. I thought it was average, alot of build up to a typical answer.

Is that the one with Paul Newman or Robert Redford?

After seeing Syriana, I read the books by Robert Baer that Syriana was based on, hoping the movie would make more sense. Hah! While chock full of nifty information and intrigue, the books are even more disjointed than the movie!

I'm watching Ghandi this morning. Never wanted to see it, but have been stuck to it since it started.

The World's Fastest Indian--10/10

Fantastic movie. If I was to compare it to anything, I'd be like throwing Anchorman, The Rookie, motorcycles, and Aussie awesomeness into a blender. Anthony Hopkins is amazing, and there are some funny-ass lines in the movie (especially the part with the transvestite).



Talladega Nights--9/10

If you don't like gay jokes or are easily offended or hate Applebee's, avoid this movie like the plague. Otherwise, you're gonna find it hilarious. The "kilo of Colombian bam-bam" part is fuckin' hilarious.

I finally saw Pirates of the carribean 2. Best movie of the summer 10/10.

I did not expect it to be that good either. it was magnificent and very entertaining for anyone of any age. Reminded me of the Indiana Jones Movies. probally the best of its type since indiana jones.

the first one caught me by surprise, too. a fun movie, without being too cheesy. the indiana jones analogy is good. guilty pleasures without feeling like you're dumbing yourself down to enjoy it. i'll be seeing PotC 2 soon.
