The Wire takes brainpower to understand what's going on at first. They just sort of plop you in the middle of shit. Subtitles help a lot too, Baltimore talk is fucking gibberish.

It is probably the best written show that was ever on TV. Great characters, great story. Genuine crime novelists were putting up episodes of that shit (Dennis Lehane, etc.) I don't know anyone who ever watched The Wire who can't recite 10 choice bits of dialogue off the dome.
I can tell you one show that is far from the best written.... Ballers. I don't know why I get sucked into watching it every Sunday night but it just a bad show.
