I'm sure they would happily "hand" heywood and thomas to anybody at this point. Nobody's taking on that salary willingly.

Neither Memphis nor OKC are looking to take on salary. They will not be players this summer. Joe has gone on record saying every dollar of his cap space will be in play.

What makes Joe think he's gonna get Butler or the pick? The Wizards could offer Haywood (expiring) and a Lotto protected first.

If Joe doesn't take it that's his problem. The Wizards could make the Grizzlies or Thunder the same offer. I'm guessing one of those would accept, simply for the extra pick

There are 8+ teams in the position of need, and 3 teams who can take them on.

And the griz may not be willing to take on salary regardless. If they offer us Haywood we will say no, call back when you are serious about not losing money on your investment.

But if the Wizards are looking to shed Haywood's expiring deal (it does expire in 2010, right) the Thunder or Grizz aren't stuck with him and they get an extra pick.

Considering they aren't looking to spend this off-season isn't it easier for them to take Haywood (and get a free pick) just to help them reach the minimum salary requirement?

IMO, the wizards will be looking to move mike james and/or etan thomas before haywood.

Also, memphis and OKC will have no issues meeting the minimum salary cap. The cap is dropping this year and both teams will have more draft picks to take up roster space.

Haywood's a bargain at 1 yr/6 mill, IMO.

Legit 7 footer, runs the floor well, rebounds and blocks shots.

yeah, again I don't see how spending assets to deal him makes sense when the wizards have mike james and etan thomas on their bench eating up major cap space for the next 2 years.

Washington probably wants to keep haywood simply so they can have a starting center.

IMO it comes down to do they want to lose caron butler, or their draft pick. They will likely settle on the pick.

I was thinking the same thing, hence my never ending questions.

One would think any team would like to have an expiring contract that big that also happens to come with a reasonably talented big man.

problem is it doesnt provide them with enough relief and they add another problem at center where they have two backups and no starter.

Mike James and Etan Thomas both make more than Haywood and have longer deals. Those are the slugs washington will need to move.

taking them on leave Joe with $10 million left to go out and sign a free agent, in addition to having a top-5 pick to build with.

Kstat - why wouldn't they be trying to deal Thomas or James as you suggested instead of their pick?

I am just trying to find out how you've eliminated every other possibility (from their side of things) and come to the conclusion that their pick is basically Joe's.

I don't mind Haywood, but there is a lot of talk about hitting some home runs with this flexibility, and I don't see him as being a part of that.
