Every credit card transaction has a fee that is paid by the merchant. They ask credit or debit because they're really hoping you'll chose debit and save them the fee.

I've been told its illegal for stores to enforce a minimum purchase limit on credit card transactions. Of course, I'd rather just stop at a different gas station then bitch at the dude making minimum wage at 2 in the morning.
NPR had a story ... maybe 6 months ago about a store that stopped taking cash. Said it was totally legal to not accept cash and the woman (owner) said she negotiated a smaller fee per purchase from the credit card companies because she didn't accept cash.
There is a restaurant in my town that doesn't accept credit or debit cards, cash only.
Five feet after you walk through the front door is an ATM machine with a $2.50 transaction fee. They even have an "ATM Inside" sign out front.
Fucking scumbags.
It is illegal to have a minimum charge amount. You are allowed to charge a pack of gum if you want to. And I bitch about it when they have those signs. You can report them to the state and they will get a big fine for doing it. I go to the $9.99 rose place (which has great flowers BTW), and they just put a $15 minimum in. As Brian Fellows would say...That's crazy! You have flowers for 10 bucks and your limit is more than that? That's stupid. Why not call it the $15 rose place then? I make them take my card.
I'm sure you're allowed to be cash only, though it will limit your business a lot. The dryclean depot is that way. cash only, and an ATM with the fee in the lobby. That's BS, but luckily there is a comerica a block away.
I don't get why even that part doesn't scare more people.Quote:

Notice I said self check out. I only do it there where nobody is in line behind me (at least not looking over my shoulder) and I can properly hide my PIN (because on those you hit the buttons on the screen, not the stand alone key pad at the registers that everyone can see easily).
When I was 17 I was broke and needed gas in the car. I had $2 in quarters. I put the $2 bucks in, then the bitch said she wouldnt take change. I told her it was illegal to not accept american currency (plus it was freakin quarters, not pennies or anything). We screamed for a while and I left without paying which was, against my will. The next day (it had been late at night) I called the district manager, got the charges dropped for a gas n go, and received two $100 gift cards for their station. Bitch got fired too.Quote:

I don't get why it takes so much hard work to avoid work.
I don't get why women are more attracted to men that are going to treat them like shit, even when they know that's what the guy is like.
