Until I see Tyson play well, I'm assuming his injury is much much more serious than we thought and he would have been a terrible pickup.
Let me explain the Chandler trade:
You take him from New Orleans as well as a future first round pick - let's say 2011.
Who do they have starting at C? West can't really guard C's so they'd have to use one of their young bigs. Which means growing pains, which means losses, which means drama.
The team would go backwards for at least 1 season, maybe 2 and we'd have their pick in that 2nd season of discontent.
Who cares what Chandler does for us? He's a big expiring contract after this coming season and he got us a first rounder that's gonna be late teens at worst/Lotto at best.
Is it wise to make the deal? No - cause you sacrifice the chance to sign quality players now to take on 2 years deals just to acquire extra Draft picks but it was a possibility...

Joe Dumars is putting himself in position to stay under the luxury tax and be mildly competitive this year. That will give him a pick in the range of this year's pick, which he will use to select a defensive C that can grow with Stuckey, BG, CV, Daye and Summers. In 2011, Joe is KING, as his master plan unfolds and everyone is smited for doubting him.
Counting on a decent center to be at any pick is risky at best.
