only if they get another tool as big as ManuQuote:

S&T Sheed for him, lol.
Obviously, short-handed teams being killed in the playoffs = done.
Riiiggghhhttt...
Not quite, but short-handed teams with weak benches that can't answer the call when a starter goes down or gets in foul trouble, maybe.Quote:

Now they don't have the resources to re-tool without dealing one of the "big 3".
IMO.
Yes, they should have had another Manu on the bench next to the real Manu waiting to "answer the call".
Yeah, that's exactly what I said. You do love to twist my words, don't you?
You can continue to believe that I'm the only one that sees this, but you're living a lie.
And I know you know it, too.
You dismissed his point by saying they should have been able to handle a loss to (at worst) their third best player as though any team could lose a Manu and still challenge for a championship. If I were going to put words into your mouth, I wouldn't make them so dumb.
Even Parker said they would have had a really hard time winning the series with Ginobili.
They're a flawed team, and it finally came home to roost, Ginobili injury or not.
Sorry if you don't like it.
LOL, like I give a shit about whether they are "flawed" or not. I've only ever cared about your argument, not the Spurs themselves. Just like now. I made fun of your "that's why you have benches, to take the place of your all-star" comment. That's what the "volcanoes are done" statement was about.
So Glenn, when will the Tayshaun-for-Ginobili trade happen? :)
Maybe Joe can get Pop next year when the Spurs fans revolt on him (read the comments here, lol). Remember my Avery Johnson coaching the Spurs prediction? j/k

They don't have the size to get past LA IMO, but they can certainly contend with anyone else in the West if RJ fits in.
Too much $ tied up in those 4 old dudes, IMO. (Well, Parker's not that old, I guess.)
I am surprised that they'll be paying the tax, though.
Can they still sign Sheed to the MLE? That would be a perfect offseason if they accomplished that...
No reason they can't. It now looks like they are at about 68 mil in salary if they don't extend anyone or pick up any options. Not sure what the tax number would be, but they are certainly allowed to use the MLE.
These are the 7 contracts that would take up 75 mil in salaries (assuming full MLE for Sheed):
PG Parker/Hill
SG Manu/Mason
SF RJ/
PF TD/Bonner
C Sheed/
They'd need to keep a few other players to fill out the roster and would be in the tax level for sure. Thats what happens with close to 60 mil in their top 4 players. The issue is they'd be pretty much stuck so they'd better win it all with that core.
I wonder if they'll even use the MLE if they get too far over. $5m = $10m
Good question. They have to add somebody up front. TD and Bonner isn't enough. They don't really have any wiggle room either. They could move Mason and Bonner, but they only make between 3-4 mil each. You might be able to shave a mil or two with cheaper backups but that is it.Quote:

they need a couple bigs to do that. Time to call up EC and CWebb!
That will really help the youth movement, too.
Unless they've decided to trade Manu, which I can't see right now because of his injuries, they'd be selling low.
It has been speculated, though, he's got a new contract coming soon, I think.
After next year his contract is up. I would assume they'd just sign him for a couple years (probably cheaper if he continues to decline) and go into all out rebuilding mode in a few years.
Basically they'd have TP past his prime, TD and Manu possibly retired, and RJ moved on (unless he took a pay cut). They will be drastically thin on talent unless they find steals like TP. They could have a lot of cap space if they time it all right, but no real draw (an aging TP isn't that big of a draw).
And they'll have a new coach, too. (Probably Avery)
They could probably sign a couple players cashing in on big pay days, but that's probably it.
I don't think San Antonio fans are freaking out about the rebuilding years.
Their front office has proven to be pretty good over the last 5 years.
Building around Parker will be difficult, but it's not impossible. Wouldn't he be the "new" Steve Nash in 2 or 3 years?
One stud big man and that team could rebuild pretty quickly IMO
One stud big man and anyone can rebuild pretty quickly.
Except the Raptors, they're shit.
The Spurs are in luxury tax territory now. I'm wondering if they know something we don't about luxury tax holidays, like the sweepstakes a few years ago that led to Mike Finley being a Spur.

I'd say that solidifies they are FAR from 'DONE'.
LMAO - as if he's gonna make a difference.
Technically GD was right.
The core of Duncan, Parker and Manu are DONE.
The core of Duncan, Jefferson, Parker and Manu aren't done yet.
It's only just begun. Right GD?
Um, no. That's not how it works. They still have the core.Quote:

Tony Parker, Injured
by Marcel Mutoni
It is times like these when one begins to understand the reasons behind Gregg Popovich occasionally sporting a beard befitting a man quietly assembling bombs in a log cabin somewhere.
The stress involved with having to watch two of his three stars partake in international hoops annually - where they at times suffer catastrophic injuries - would be enough to drive anyone a little batty.
The good news for Popovich and the rest of the San Antonio Spurs organization, is that Tony Parker’s injury, according to TP, is considered to be relatively minor. The Express-News reports:
Here’s to hoping that Popovich is somewhere, with absolutely no access to the news.Quote:
According to French sports newspaper L’Equipe, Parker left the game on a crutch after 12 minutes with a sharp pain in his right thigh after colliding with Austria’s Stjepan Stazic. Though that injury soon subsided, Parker’s right ankle became swollen. By Saturday morning, it was clear the ankle was the greater issue.
In a statement released by the French Basketball Federation, Parker said that the collision caused “a blow to my thigh, and my ankle also turned.” Parker described the MRI of his ankle as “reassuring,” calling the injury “a minor sprain, without any ligament damage.”
Parker is expected to be ready when France’s Eurobasket 2009 qualification effort gets back under way on Aug. 5 against Italy in Cagliari.
Luckily, Litte Tony seems to have esaped, uninjured.
