Was Carlisle his first hire? I thought before that it was the coach he inherited. Carlisle was a good choice that was wearing out his welcome just as LB became available. Can't fault him for that hire or fire. LB was ready to move on. Definitely can't fault him for that hire, can't really fault him for them parting ways either. Flip was a good choice at the time. Everyone seemed to think his offense was exactly what we needed. He had experience. He'd worked with Chauncey before and done well. Can't fault him for that hire, although we all think he should have canned him a year sooner. Curry was a poor choice.
The only way he improves on his coaching decisions is if he somehow made things work with LB for another few years, which wasn't likely with the speed that the situation deteriorated.

The 6 in 10 years:
Irvine = caretaker used cause he was on the job when Joe was hired.
Prick = deserved his shot at head coaching gig - did very well.
LB = you don't turn down LB. One of the best coaches ever.
Flip = players got sick of LB. Mr. D was sick of LB's flirting.
Curry = fucking useless. Shit! Sorry for swearing
J.K Scoring = time will tell.
All coaching changes can be justified except Curry who was a mistake.
Flip may or may not have been a mistake too (ask Gutz). I wanted Nate McMillan. My almost 1 year old son Nate is evidence of that.

Damn, Z - you beat me to it.
Solid job too.

The Darko thing doesn't help nationally, either.
Perception and all that.

He deserves being ripped for his Drafting. It's freakin' terrible.
Everything else he's done is pretty damn good though.
Ain't nobody perfect.

thanks to Mr. Dumars overpaying CV and Gordon, another decent FA bigman couldnt sign with the Pistons and just went to Orlando

As with Joe's coaching choices, he did well if you ignore the other coaches that he passed on thru the years. We had a chance at getting Adelman but Dumars stuck with Flip(and way too long at that). There were a lot better coices than Curry. We could have gotten JVG or Avery or several others. Now we've passed on a bunch of good choices to get another unproven coach who if you look at the poll, most posters are either unsure or unhappy with the pick.
His free agent signings and extensions have been mediocre with some good (Dice, Billups, etc.) and some bad (Nazr, Max, etc.)and most recently, overpaying for Gordon. His trades have been pretty solid but I still think that we didn't get enough for Billups.
Dumars started off as about as good a GM that you could hope for. I even gave him a pss on the Darko pick. As the years have gone by, his moves have become more and more questionable. This off-season was supposed to be his chance to redeem himself. Right now we are left with a bunch of questions. I don't know if everyone is giving Joe a pass because of what he did in the past or if it's just rapant homerism but his performance of the last couple of years has really disappointing. I guess those who call him king just have really low standards. I look at teams like San Antonio and see that we were once like that but not anymore. I hope that Joe can recapure the magic or else we are in for some mediocre seasons ahead of us.

As far as I can tell, the latest bout of "King" postings was a joke, but maybe I'm wrong.

Zek's right. I think other than me and Kstat, they were entirely in jest, and to avoid speaking for K, mine wasn't entirely serious. However, if you go back and read my post, the reason I stated makes Joe look pretty smart.
