After a tug-of-war battle between Michigan and Ohio State, Toledo, Ohio, TE/DE Kevin Koger made a final decision and committed to the Wolverines earlier this afternoon.

It's been a rollercoaster ride for Toledo, Ohio, TE/DE Kevin Koger. As a standout at Whitmer High School, Koger had an abundance of options where to continue his football career.

Despite a late surge from Ohio State, the Maize and Blue were able to hold off the Buckeyes charge as they secured a commitment from Koger earlier this afternoon.

Kevin Koger father phoned GoBlueWolverine Magzine's Sam Webb to break the news that his son has decided to become a Wolverine.

"We're coming your way," Mr. Koger said regarding his son's decision to attend Michigan. "He came to the decision today. I had written down a couple of things for him and Michigan was just where he felt most comfortable. He always loved Michigan and he grew up a Michigan fan. It's just where he felt most comfortable."

This is a big commit regardless of where he plays. First, we have a great couple of classes for TE - with Webb and Watson, now Moore and Koger. They may not all end up playing TE, but that position should be solid for a while. If Koger plays DE, he's the best commit we've had there in a couple years. I thought I had read that he could be converted to OL if they felt like he could bulk up. He's 6'4", 225 with a 4.65 40. I would prefer he play DE. He's too fast to become an OL, and at 225 it would take a ton to get him big enough.

By the way, scout has him as the #7 TE in the country and he just misses the top 100 players overall. Rivals has him as the #16 TE, the #15 player in Ohio. Michigan now has commits from 3 (Moore, Mealer, Koger) of the top 15 in OH, and would like to add one more - #10 Zebrie Sanders.

Nothing better than going into Ohio and stealing talent. Gord, MSU and UM should set up some sort of headquarters there and establish relationships with these Ohio high schools. That state churns out talent year in and year out.

The only reason he commited to UM was because State didn't want him.

haha

Zerbie Sanders is going to Georgia or Florida. He grew up in the south and wants to go back there. Georgia is where his mom graduated from.

Koger has been promised a shot at TE. If we had insisted on making him a DE, he would be a Buckeye right now.

Saw some video of the kid. Good looking prospect. Sure wish MSU could start landing a few 4 stars right about now. Mainly Smith and Gray.

There is a rumour out there that Smith is an MSU silent and he only went on this last UM visit to make 100% sure about MSU.

This is like 4th hand information. So take it for what it is worth.

Hey Art, or anyone else who might have info or rumors, if Moore and Koger are both getting a shot at TE, are they talking position change with Webb or Watson? I know a lot of people think of Webb as a huge WR, so I can see that. But Watson is strictly a TE, right? Is the idea just to be loaded there? Which of these guys are the best blockers? They all seem more like vertical threat TE's, which I suppose is fine but not really anything I'm used to as a UM fan. Will we see the return of the naked bootleg with Mallett?

After Massey, UM has no real TE on the roster. We need 3-4.

yeah some want Webb to stay at WR. Michigan usually plays 3 TE rotating in for a season. So having 4 TE shouldnt be too much of a problem.

I can see them going to the naked wiggle that Griese used to do real well back in the last 90s.

That's just a terrible name to use for a football strategy.

Sounds like something done at a frat house during rush week.

We're down to Massey because Butler got kicked off the team like an idiot. He would have been a great TE. I know McLaurin and Criswell are listed there, but I don't know what type of ability they have. Looks like Webb and Watson might have a good shot at some PT there this year.

If UM isn't careful, they're gonn have to give ol' 5'3, 122 lbs, Jim Boehiem look alike Zip Goshboots a call. I've played tight end on Madden before.
