Flash poll on Nazr

defrocked

Like I've said, he's not as bad as we make him out to be, and I think he could still have a useful spot on the roster. It all depends on what he learned about what we need from him with his front court seat half the year. Best case scenario, he can earn his way back to being a starter with good rebounding, a decent post-game, and most importantly, controlling his fouls.

Agreed with defrocked. He's not horrid, but I would prefer an upgrade. If he made about 2 million less per year we'd all be fine with him being a solid big that can play off the bench or start if we need him to.

I agree with the consensus. After the 3-5 start, we went 15-5 with Nazr in the starting lineup in our next 20 games. The slump began when Chauncey got hurt. His numbers weren't that bad when you consider he only played 20 minutes a night.

If Nazr made 3.5 to 4 million, or even if he made the same amount he does now on a shorter deal, I think Piston fans would be more accepting of him. If the Spurs didn't get him in 2005, the Pistons probably win the title that year.

The bottom line for me is Nazr is decent enough he is not a guy who is going to win or lose games, however with that said the team needs to find a way to use him.

If they bring in someone else, re-sign Webber or use Sheed at 5 and Max at 4 they need to find a role for Nazr and keep him in it. Flip screwed up the Webber signing, by not continuing to use Nazr or by not having specific roles for the bigs. Not using Nazr forced Webber into too many minutes, and by the time the playoffs came Webber was over used and dead by the Cleveland series.

Nazr is a lot like Earl Watson, Corliss, Donyell Marshall, Damon Jones, Marko Jaric, Diop, Varjejo or Nocioni, they are guys that are most effective when they are used in roles that play into their strengths. When the coaches don't know how to use the guys or attempt to make them into full time players, frustration on all levels leads to criticism, cries about their pay, undo pressure and early exits for coaches and players because of the misuse. If Joe, Flip and Nazr can come together and find a way to utilize Nazr, he will be fine and fans won't be on his ass as much.

How a guy can go from starting to not playing at all is beyond me. I think Nazr is effective and paid what he should be when he is not overused, like Diop and Dampier in Dallas. We just need someone to take the other 24 minutes at center. With Maxiell playing hard and McDyess being McDyess, we can easily roll with a 4 man bigman rotation.
Wallace 30
McDyess 24
Maxiell 18
Mohammed 24

The problem is he didn't play. At all. For seemingly no reason. This has me worried more than his talent/contract.

Explanation for "Other" vote:
I've never heard of him.

i would discribe his game, loosely, as ben wallace + freethrows.

<-- lives in past.

If Davidson was willing to pay taxes I bet nobody would be complaining about him at all. He's nothing special, but I don't dislike the guy at all. People just hate the contract because we see Joe making moves all the time to stay under the tax level.

I say other, meaning he's slightly less than average imo. His defense is much softer that it ever used to be. And I dont think he'll ever find solid consistency on offense.

He's had some really nice games over the past few years, if he could only be consistent...
