Neifi Perez suspended for 25 games

Detroit Tigers shortshop Neifi Perez was suspended for 25 games today by Major League Baseball for testing postive for a banned stimulant.

The suspension is effective immediately. The Tigers open a three-game series tonight at home against the Boston Red Sox.

Perez has played in 33 games this season, with six RBIs, 11 hits and one run. He is batting .172.

What a dumbass.

talk about a big loss...why couldn't it have been Guillen?

My first reaction was "Why not Ramon Santiago?" but then it ocurred to me that Raburn is probably here to replace Monroe.

What's up with Clevelen?

I thought they should bring up Mike Hessman, throw him out there for a few ABs... He's been hitting a ton of dingers at Toledo.

Raburn can't play SS, but he is beating the F out of the ball in AAA...

Clevelen's been terrible this year, Shelton's out of options, and I really hope we release Neifi.

I am hoping that the Raburn callup means that Monroe is going to be finally traded.

I know that he's been at AAA for at least two seasons, and while he can hit for power and his average is up this season (.269) there is some fear as to how much of a hitter he actually is. This year 49 of his 86 hits are extra base hits, so he swings hard. What normally accompanies that? You guessed it, 110 strikeouts. Last season he only hit .165. 57 hits (35 for extra bases) but 129 strikeouts. Yikes.

Not a ton of errors from 3B though. Since he's already 29, it's hard to believe he would ever be a replacement for Inge. Not exactly sure what his role is in the organization. Pretty much filling that AAA roster spot trying to help them win games is all. Unless Inge has a serious injury I'm guessing he never sees the D.

Nefi's loss is the Tigers gain.

By the way, how does a 50 year old that hits a HR every 150 games get busted for a banned substance? Did he really think his career was going to get much better?

I'd hate to see him play without whatever it was he thought he needed.
