The Los Angeles Clippers today waived guard Daniel Ewing and declined to exercise the third-year contract option on forward James Singleton, it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor.

In two years with the Clippers, Ewing averaged 3.4 points, 1.4 assists 13.3 minutes per game. Ewing was the 32nd overall selection by the Clippers in the 2005 NBA Draft.

Singleton, who originally signed with Los Angeles as a free agent prior to the start of the 2005-06 NBA season, averaged 2.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 10.1 minutes per game over his two-year career with the Clippers. In a related matter, the Clippers also declined to tender Singleton a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent as of July 1st.

With these moves, the Clippers’ roster currently stands at 11 players.

Luke Walton reached agreement Sunday with the Los Angeles Lakers on a six-year, $30 million contract after general manager Mitch Kupchak placed a call one minute after midnight to express the team's interest in retaining its best unrestricted free agent.

"They called at the earliest possible moment, and we worked on it all day," agent Lon Babby said. "They wanted him back, and Luke wanted to be there. We wanted to make every effort to get an agreement before we went out and looked at any other teams."

Another of Babby's clients, Grant Hill, had one of his more lucrative options taken away when the Toronto Raptors decided to spend their mid-level exception on Miami Heat sharpshooter Jason Kapono.

Babby said Hill's list of possible teams now includes, in no particular order, Detroit, Miami, Phoenix, San Antonio and Orlando.

"The financial considerations are fairly low on his list of priorities. He wants the opportunity to play on a championship team, and if he has to make a financial sacrifice, he would do that," Babby said.

JIMMY WALKER | Former Kings player dies

Jimmy Walker, a former NBA All-Star who finished his career with the Kansas City Kings, died of lung cancer Monday morning at Truman Medical Center. He was 63.

Walker played nine seasons in the NBA and joined the Kansas City-Omaha Kings in 1973. He played in the 1970 and 1972 All-Star Games as a member of the Pistons and came to the Kings from Houston.

Walker, a Boston native, was a prolific scorer, averaging 16.7 points during his pro career. His best scoring season was the 1971-72 season when he averaged 21.3 points per game.

A two-time All-America guard at Providence who led the nation in scoring in 1967, Walker holds several school scoring records. He averaged 25.3 points in his college career and 30.4 as a senior. In three seasons, Walker scored 2,045 career points. Despite playing only three seasons, he held the school’s all-time scoring record for 38 years until it was broken in 2005.

He was the overall No. 1 draft choice in 1967 and was selected by Detroit.

Walker’s playing days ended in 1976, but during the early 1990s it was revealed that he was the father of Jalen Rose, then a member of Michigan’s Fab Five team that played in two NCAA championship games. It was reported that father and son had corresponded but had never met.

In his post-NBA days, Walker had lived in Atlanta but spent the last several years in Kansas City. He was born April 8, 1944, in Amherst, Va.

Thats pretty quick for Seattle, I'd say.

SEATTLE - Kevin Durant and Jeff Green, the second and fifth overall choices in last week's NBA draft, signed contracts with the Seattle SuperSonics on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-9 Durant, just 18, is a forward who earned Associated Press college player of the year honors in his one season at Texas. He also won the Adolph Rupp Trophy, the Naismith Award and the Wooden Award.
He will make $3.476 million as a rookie and $3.736 million in the second year. Green will earn $2.548 million in his first year and $2.739 million in the following one. The SuperSonics have one-year options for the players' third and fourth years.

The 6-9 Green, also a forward, played three seasons at Georgetown, averaging 13.2 points and 6.5 rebounds. Green, 21, was named to the AP All-America third team in 2006-07 and, as a junior, helped the Hoyas make their first NCAA Final Four appearance since 1985.

Both players are in Las Vegas for the NBA summer league and will make their professional debuts on Friday when the Sonics face the Dallas Mavericks.

Pistons sign first-round draft picks Afflalo, Stuckey to contracts

Associated Press
Updated: July 6, 2007, 1:25 PM ET

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The Detroit Pistons signed first-round draft picks Rodney Stuckey and Arron Afflalo to contracts Friday.

Stuckey, the 15th selection in last month's NBA draft, played two seasons at Eastern Washington. His 24.2 points per game as a freshman and 24.6 the following season led the Big Sky Conference. He's fourth on the school's career scoring list.

Afflalo was drafted 27th and averaged 16.9 points as a junior last season at UCLA. He led the Bruins to the NCAA Final Four and was a consensus first-team All-American.

Nocioni back with the Bulls

By K.C. Johnson
Tribune staff reporter
Published July 6, 2007, 1:09 PM CDT

Andres Nocioni has agreed to a five-year contract worth approximately $38 million, keeping the popular forward with the team that vowed to re-sign him.

The contract can't be signed until the free-agent moratorium ends July 11. But general manager John Paxson confirmed a deal is in place.

Sources told the Tribune that the contract includes a team option for a sixth season.

Earlier Friday, Paxson confirmed that the team was optimistic about their chances.

"We've made progress," Paxson said at the Berto Center. "We're pretty confident. I'm hopeful that in the next day or so we can hammer this thing out with him."

The Tribune and Memphis Commercial Appeal reported in their Friday editions that Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace wasn't willing to increase a verbal offer that is in the same neighborhood as the Bulls' offer.

The Tribune first reported Paxson has offered a five-year deal worth approximately $38 million. It's rare for teams to make a proactive offer for a restricted free agent instead of letting the market dictate his price.

"I felt the area we started talking about was a legitimate, fair offer," Paxson said. "So I never have problems throwing that out there. We're at the stage where we know our young players have value. I just felt it was appropriate to try to work something out. We want him here. He fits in with what we're trying to do."

Indeed, Nocioni, 27, has become a Bulls fan favorite with his manic intensity and floor-burn style.

"He's one of those guys who have helped change a lot of things around here in terms of how we go about business," Paxson said.

The Grizzlies flew to Nocioni's native Argentina to personally woo him. That they didn't follow with a bold offer raised eyebrows.

But Nocioni, who is resting the plantar fasciitis in his right foot, always stated his No. 1 priority was to return to the Bulls.

He got his wish.

Memphis is going to sign him to a big offer sheet.

I guess we'll see if Gilbert really is willing to pay the tax or not. I know they are concerned about AV making more $ than their starter (Gooden).

I suppose a S&T for AV could work, Damon Stoudamire?

That could make some sense since they are high on Lowry and just drafted Conley.

Cleveland would get their (old) PG and still have their MLE.

The Cavs might sign Fisher. He wants to go to certain cities that have good clinics for his daughter. One of them is the Cleveland Clinic (don't know what the other cities are). He said his daughter comes first, then he'll play wherever has the best doctors for her.

I'm guessing the Cavs wouldn't want a S&T unless they get a big man back, since you never know how long Z will hold up and Pollard does nothing for you.

Report: Oden to have tonsils out later this week
ESPN.com news services

Updated: July 10, 2007, 9:57 AM ET

Portland-area hospitals may wish to stock up on ice cream for the arrival of a very big patient.

The Portland Trail Blazers will shut down rookie center Greg Oden's summer league season after two games so the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft can have his tonsils removed, The Oregonian of Portland reported.

According to the report, the team has decided Oden's swollen tonsils need to come out in the next three-to-four days because they are obstructing his breathing, which in turn is limiting his stamina.

"Right now, it's more of a thing that they are so big, that when I'm running up and down the court, it's hard for me to breathe," Oden said Monday after scrimmages with the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers, The Oregonian reported. "I can't get any air in there."

While a final decision on surgery has yet to be made, it appears likely Oden will have the procedure done late this week, after taping the ESPY awards show in Los Angeles on Wednesday, the newspaper reported. According to the team and Oden's camp, he is expected to recover in about two weeks.

Oden had struggled in his two summer league appearances, fouling out of his first game and scoring 13 points in the second. But he did not use his tonsils -- which team general manager Kevin Pritchard said are the size of golf balls -- as a crutch for his performance.

"There's no excuses, because I was out there playing," Oden said, according to The Oregonian. "And if I'm playing, I'm playing, so if I have a bad game, it's not on my tonsils, it's on me. A lot of it is I just have to get used to this game, that's what everyone is telling me."

Steve Francis buyout

The Washington Post and Newsday reported on Tuesday that Portland will pay more than $30 million of the $33.6 million that the former All-Star guard is due.

"This was the definition of a win-win situation with Isiah and the Knicks getting Zach Randolph and Steve being the ultimate beneficiary in being bought out," Francis' agent Jeff Fried said on Tuesday, according to Newsday.

According to the paper, Francis will go on the waiver wire at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday. Another team could claim him, but that franchise would be responsible for his contract. Most likely, Francis will become an unrestricted free agent in seven days.

The Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers have been rumored to be interested in signing Francis. The guard's longtime friend and former Rockets teammate Cuttino Mobley plays for the Clippers.

According to the Post, Fried said that the buyout allows his client to find the "right fit as opposed to the most money. He doesn't need much to be made whole."

Francis averaged a career-low 11.3 points per game last year, his first full season in New York. He has career averages of 18.4 points and 6.1 assists per game. Francis made the All-Star Game from 2002-04 while with Houston.

Derek Fisher agrees to a 3-year contract to rejoin the Lakers

12:32 AM PDT on Thursday, July 12, 2007

By BRODERICK TURNER
The Press-Enterprise

LAS VEGAS - For all intents and purposes, Derek Fisher will re-join the Lakers.

Fisher and the Lakers have agreed to a three-year contract worth about $13,959,000, league sources said.

However, there will be a holding period before he can sign the contract. Fisher, who was released by the Utah Jazz last week, has to clear waivers first.

It'll take seven days before Fisher can clear waivers, and that won't start until his previous contract of $20,592,600 that he walked away from is amended to zero dollars.

As of Wednesday night, the Jazz had not filed the paperwork with the NBA about Fisher's release. The seven-day countdown to Fisher's being free and able to sign with the Lakers won't start until Utah does.

Another team could pick up Fisher before he clears waivers. But if it does, that team will be on the hook for all of Fisher's $20,592,600 salary.

Fisher's contract with the Lakers will start at $4.3 million, which is less than the mid-level exception for next season at $5.3 million.

But Fisher, who will turn 33 next month, will get 8 percent raises on the next two years of his contract that will pay him $4.644 million during the 2008-09 season and $5.015 million in the final year.

Fisher became available after the Jazz released him from the last three years of a guaranteed contract so that he can concentrate on getting the best care for his 11-month-old daughter, who has cancer in her left eye.

Howard's new deal reportedly worth $85 million over five years

ESPN.com news services

Updated: July 12, 2007, 1:40 PM ET

Center Dwight Howard has signed a contract extension, the Orlando Magic announced Thursday.

The five-year extension is estimated to be worth $85 million, the Orlando Sentinel reported, but the exact value won't be known until next season's salary cap is released.

"Dwight has already become one of the most intimidating forces in the league down low, and at 21 years old, he is only going to get better," Magic GM Otis Smith said in a statement. "We continue to make this organization one in which fans can be proud of, both on and off the court, and Dwight is obviously a big part of that. We look forward to watching Dwight's development in a Magic uniform for many years to come."

Howard became the fourth player in Magic history to earn All-NBA honors when he was named to the third team last season. He started all 82 games last season, averaging a team- and career-best 17.6 points, a team-high 12.3 rebounds, a team- and career-best 1.9 blocks and 1.9 assists in a team-high 36.9 minutes per game.

Atkins likely to sign today with Nuggets

Atkins likely to sign today with Nuggets

By Aaron J. Lopez, Rocky Mountain News
July 13, 2007

Heading into the offseason, the Nuggets were in search of veteran leadership, someone capable of playing point guard and a decent outside shooter.

Chucky Atkins provided one- stop shopping.

Atkins, a point guard with eight years of NBA experience, said Thursday night he will be in Denver today to sign a multiyear contract with the Nuggets.

"Pretty much a done deal," Atkins said. "I'm very excited. Very happy. For one, just to be off the (free- agent) market. Secondly, to be going to play for a very talented team that has a chance to win it all."

Atkins, who will turn 33 on Aug. 14, enjoyed one of his best statistical seasons in 2006-07, averaging 13.2 points and 4.6 assists in 75 games with the Memphis Grizzlies.

For his career, he has averaged 10.8 points and 3.7 assists and is a 37 percent three-point shooter.

His shooting ability was a strong selling point for a Nuggets team that was 28th in the league from behind the arc last season.

"I just want to ease the double- and triple-teaming of Carmelo (Anthony) and Allen (Iverson)," Atkins said. "I think we can make some things happen."

Atkins' pending arrival means point guard Steve Blake is unlikely to return to the Nuggets.

Blake started 40 of 49 games and averaged 8.3 points and 6.6 assists after being acquired in a trade with Milwaukee on Jan. 11.

Seeking a significant raise from $1.33 million, he might have been too expensive for the Nuggets' taste.

The Nuggets were more than $12 million over the $67.87 million luxury tax threshold heading into the free-agent signing period. They can lower the dollar-for-dollar tax burden through trades between now and the end of next season.

Atkins' contract is expected to include a two-year guarantee, with a third-year option and an annual salary of about $3 million.

For now, Atkins will be penciled in alongside Iverson as he joins his seventh NBA team. The last time he was a full-time starter was in 2004-05, when he averaged a career-best 13.6 points and 4.4 assists for the Lakers.

Atkins and Iverson at the same time? Now that is a small backcourt.

Mourning averaged 8.6 points last season for the Heat, and his 5.44 blocks per 48 minutes led the NBA by a wide margin. He started more than half of Miami's games last season while Shaquille O'Neal recovered from knee surgery, and the Heat clearly wanted him back -- especially since his $2.8 million salary for next season makes the seven-time All-Star a bargain.

BEIJING -- The Milwaukee Bucks (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=Mil)' campaign to secure the services of reluctant power forward Yi Jianlian (http://insider.espn.go.com/nbadraft/draft/tracker/player?playerId=18866) has suffered a blow after the player's Chinese club said it would block his move to the United States.
Yi, taken by Milwaukee with the sixth selection in the NBA draft last month, would "definitely not" play for Milwaukee, Tuesday's Beijing News quoted Guangdong Tigers chief, Chen Haitao, as saying.
"This is not -- as media reports have said -- because Milwaukee, as a city with very few Chinese people, is not good for Yi's commercial development," Chen said.
"Rather we want to find a team suitable for Yi's growth. That's the root of the problem," he added.
Earlier in July, Yi's Chinese agent said the unsigned player was looking to be traded to another club, despite pledges by Milwaukee officials to do whatever they could to make him feel at home.
Chen expressed concern that Yi would have trouble getting playing time with the Bucks, whose squad boasts Australian 7-footer Andrew Bogut and a number of other tall young players.
"The national team and the Olympic Games are now our key considerations ... If [Yi] goes to a team where he can't compete, that would be being irresponsible to the national team," Chen said.

Veteran center Jake Voskuhl has reached agreement with the Milwaukee Bucks on a one-year, $3 million contract, ESPN.com has learned.

The signing was expected to be announced Thursday, when the Bucks were to renounce their rights to at least one of their five free agents in order to clear room to sign Voskuhl. Milwaukee's unrestricted free agents are Ruben Patterson, Brian Skinner, Earl Boykins and Jared Reiner. Also, Ersan Ilyasova (who plans to play in Europe next season) and Charlie Bell are restricted free agents.

Voskuhl, a seven-year veteran, averaged 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 14 minutes per game last season for the Charlotte Bobcats, his third NBA team. With the Bucks, he will join Dan Gadzuric as a backup to Andrew Bogut.

Heat forward Walker shaken by Chicago armed robbery

July 11, 2007

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (AP) -- Miami Heat forward Antoine Walker said Wednesday that he remains shaken after an armed robbery at his Chicago home.

"When your life's threatened, it's obviously going to take some time to get over it," Walker said in his first public comments since the robbery. "I'm not Superman."

Walker and a relative were bound at gunpoint while multiple robbers took a car, cash and jewelry from his residence Monday evening.

"I'm happy that I'm unharmed and safe, and so is my family," the three-time NBA All-Star told reporters gathered at his suburban summer basketball camp.

"The material things that were taken from me can obviously be replaced," he said.

The vehicle taken in the robbery was found, abandoned, in Chicago on Tuesday morning.

Police have not announced any arrests in the case.

Walker said he probably would move out of the plush River North neighborhood where the attack occurred, but not out of Chicago.

In July 2000, Walker -- then a Boston Celtic -- was the victim of an armed robbery along with NBA center Nazr Mohammed as they sat in a vehicle waiting for a restaurant on Chicago's South Side to open. Police said at the time that three men approached and demanded cash and valuables, which included a $55,000 wristwatch.

Walker averaged 8.5 points with Miami this past season and was a key part of the Heat's run to the NBA championship the year before.

Bucks to sign G-F Desmond Mason

July 23, 2007

MILWAUKEE (TICKER) -- Desmond Mason is headed back to the place where he enjoyed his most success.

The athletic swingman will sign with the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday.

Mason will be introduced at a Noon EDT news conference.

The 2001 Slam Dunk Champion, Mason played with the Bucks for two-plus seasons (2003-05). He averaged a career-high 17.2 points in his final campaign with the club, then was traded to the New Orleans Hornets.

Mason, 29, originally was acquired by the Bucks at the trade deadline in February 2003 along with Gary Payton in a deal for sharpshooter Ray Allen.

Last season, the 6-5 Mason averaged 13.7 points in 75 games with the Hornets. A 2000 first-round pick of Seattle, Mason has career averages of 12.8 points and 4.5 rebounds in 540 games.

Dyess gets extention per Rob Otto WDFN via DSR

Glenn

Wow, the DSR is still around?

I remember when I posted a new thread about their "report" that Carlisle was going to be fired on RGM back in the day and most people thought it was a hoax (some still do).

I used to like that site, but it keep crashing and would go weeks sometimes without new content.

(Also, good news on Dice.)

Memphis signed Casey Jacobsen to a one year deal.

His girlfriend was pleased, but was afraid that Craig Sager might track her down for an interview.

I was laughing so hard at that I almost missed the borderline allstar who was picked next.

If we hadn't got a backup point guard by now, Ronnie Price in a Pistons uniform would have looked cool. The Kings don't really have anyone to play the 1 besides Bibby now..

Sheed is probably not commonly mentioned in the Wall Street Journal

Pistons' Wallace Sells in Portland

Rasheed Wallace is saying one more goodbye to Portland, where he played for eight years with the Trail Blazers. The star Detroit Pistons forward has placed his nearly 10,000-square-foot residence on the market for $5.2 million, making it one of the most expensive listings in the area.

Mr. Wallace, 32, purchased the brick home, which sits on more than two acres in the Dunthorpe neighborhood, in 2000 for about $3 million. The NBA all-star, who has a roughly $60 million, six-year deal with the Pistons, spent more than $1 million on improvements, including a new driveway and landscaping, according to the listing agent, Tricia Epping, with Coldwell Banker, Barbara Sue Seal Properties. Mr. Wallace and his wife, Fatima, briefly put the residence on the market last year for $5.5 million, Ms. Epping says.

Designed in 1924 by architect Ellis F. Lawrence, who also designed many campus buildings at University of Oregon in Eugene, the Tudor-style home has five bedrooms, 5½ baths and a built-in saltwater fish tank, and was featured on "MTV Cribs."

I'm sure everyone's seen Sheed's house on MTV cribs. Very nice.

Also the Heat signed veteran point guard Smush Parker[smilie=heatsmiley2:

I don't know if the signing makes the team worse now.

Knicks center Eddy Curry was robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning at his home in suburban Chicago, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Three masked robbers restrained the 6-foot-11 Curry, some of his family members and an employee with duct tape and held them at gunpoint, Burr Ridge (Ill.) police said.

No one was hurt, but the robbers fled the scene with cash and jewelry.

The incident comes nearly three weeks after the Heat's Antoine Walker was robbed at gunpoint at his $4.1-million home in Chicago's River North neighborhood. Like Curry, Walker was tied up with duct tape by masked intruders, and robbed of jewelry and cash.

First toine now Curry...
