View Full Version : WikiWTF: Everything you need to know about Sammy Mejia (#57) Glenn 06-29-2007, 11:03 AM Post stuff about Sammy Mejia http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/library/players/small/sammy-mejia-hd.jpg Zekyl 06-29-2007, 04:05 PM So all we need to know is what he looks like? Glenn 06-29-2007, 04:07 PM That really wasn't the idea, but that appears to be the case. I thought we could each do some research and post anything that we find. Then, collectively, we'd have a pretty nice set of data to consider (kind of like Wikipedia: WikiWTF). But a pic is all you have to work with for now. b-diddy 06-29-2007, 04:19 PM i went to a depaul / notre dame game this year. i didnt see anyone who really screamed nba to me. i thought depaul had one good guard but i dont think it was wilson chandler or this dude. anyway, i guess anyone can spot the cream of the crop. its harder to find the guys that fill out the end of the bench. good luck in israel, sammy. Vinny 06-29-2007, 04:38 PM Sammy was streaky throughout his DePaul career and at one point had some personal troubles that kept him out for a few games (nothing legal I don't think, family related if I remember correctly...). He was just never able to put it all together. Even at 6'7" he played the point most of his time at DePaul and when he's hot, he's unstoppable. He put up like 30 in the first half one game this past year, granted against a nobody. He was a frustrating player to watch at DePaul as for ten minute stretches he'd look unstoppable, making plays on both ends of the court, but then he'd fade back into inconsistency. Coaching changes could have stunted his development quite a bit as the team didn't really start to come into it's own under new coach Jerry Wainright until the second half of last year. Vinny 06-29-2007, 04:40 PM Here's the recap from that big game: http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=263630305 DePaul 97, Northwestern State 67 ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) -- Sammy Mejia scored 40 points to lead DePaul (9-5) to a season-high 97-67 victory over Northwestern State (5-6) Friday night. The first half was rocky for the Blue Demons initially as Northwestern State jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the first six minutes of the game. That all changed as Karron Clarke hit a jumper and then Mejia hit a lay up to help keep pace with Northwestern State. Mejia then took his opponent to town, hitting three-pointer after three-pointer to take the lead with 10 minutes to go in the half and help finish the first half ahead 46-42. With 4:24 to go in the game, Mejia hit the 40-point mark on a lay up and Northwestern State called its last time-out. It was tough night for Northwestern State as Jermaine Spencer had to the leave the game with 33 seconds to go in the first half with an injured right Achilles tendon. Spencer and Gerrell Thomas both had 10 points apiece for Northwestern State. The loss was Northwestern State's worst in 77 games. Mejia's 40 points set a new personal career high. He also had a career-high five three pointers, all in the first half, during which he scored 27 points. He surpassed his season-high 23 points with less than two minutes to go in the first half. Mejia is the eighth player in DePaul history to hit 40 points in a game. The last player to do so was David Booth on Dec. 15, 1990 in a loss to UCLA. Vinny 06-29-2007, 04:43 PM Draft Express Profile: Mike Schmidt Mejia again had a solid showing today, though he still has a few weaknesses that limit his potential at the NBA level. Since finishing his season at Depaul, the talented guard has spent some time in the weight room and successfully added bulk to his frame. The added strength has helped his slashing game in Orlando this week, and he made a couple of solid finishes at the basket today. Mejia’s shooting mechanics looked slightly improved over the course of his senior season from behind the three point line, though his free throw shooting dropped to a dismal 60%. In Orlando, he hasn’t taken many jumpers, but he knocked down a couple of open 20 footers today. His free throw shooting still needs to be addressed as well. Mejia certainly has better vision than most guards as he displayed today on a couple of drop passes near the basket, but ball handling certainly isn’t a strength of his right now. Sammy Mejia (http://www.draftexpress.com/viewprofile.php?p=169) has the talent to someday make an NBA roster, but there are concerns as to how he will fit in as a role player. He’s the type of player that needs the ball in his hands in order to be effective, and players like Mejia usually aren’t allowed to dominate the ball at the NBA level. It seems doubtful that he will be drafted, but it will be interesting to see how he performs during summer league this year. Matt 07-01-2007, 08:38 PM What's more, the Pistons did Miller a favor by selecting his client Sammy Mejia with the 57th pick in the draft. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070701/SPORTS03/707010598/1051 it could be my interpretation, but maybe Joe Dumars signed Mejia as an olive branch to keep Chauncey in Detroit? OUGrizz11PG 07-01-2007, 08:54 PM I think this should become more of a Chuck Norris style WikiWTF on Sammy. E.g. When the Boogieman goes to bed at night, he checks under his bed for Sammy Mejia. Sammy Mejia's tears can cure cancer. Too bad he's never cried. Sammy Mejia is his own father. etc. UxKa 07-01-2007, 09:17 PM Sammy Mejia can divide by zero. Glenn 07-02-2007, 08:56 AM Grizz made some good posts over the weekend, damn. Find some more time for us, Grizz. OUGrizz11PG 07-02-2007, 03:34 PM I am on a lot more than I post. I suppose I've developed into some sort of lurker. :-( Zekyl 07-02-2007, 03:35 PM Well cut it out and share your opinion, good sir. |
