Not sure if a separate thread is warranted here, but because this has been a long talked about recruiting battle and the first between Izzo and Beilein, I thought I'd start it up. Plus, I gotta show some love for the Saginaw hometown product.

Rivals:

Good to be Green

Green is rated a 4-star recruit by Rivals.com. He is ranked the #22 power forward and the #78 player in the nation. He is the highest rated player in Michigan by Rivals.com for the class of 2008 and will be a top contender for Michigan's prestigious Mr. Basketball next winter.

Green joins fellow 2008 commitments 5-star forward Delvon Roe of Ohio and 4-star point guard Korie Lucious of Wisconsin to form one of the best 3-man classes in the nation.

Green was at one point in time a Kentucky commitment, but when Tubby Smith left Kentucky for Minnesota he opened his recruitment back up. Green recently narrowed his choices down to three schools, Michigan State, Michigan and Indiana. All three schools offered him a scholarship.

In the end, the chance to play close to home and compete for Big Ten and National Championships were the major factors in Green's decision making process.

Green brings a variety of skills to the table, but what made him such an attractive player from Michigan State's perspective is that he understands the value of doing the little things to become a great player. Green enjoys playing defense, rebounding, boxing out, setting screens and going strong to the basket. Those skills made him a player Coach Izzo has followed for several years.

SpartanMag.com will have much more on Green in the near future. To see some recent video of the newest Spartan in action, click the link below.

God damn right it deserves a thread, and so will the national championships The Izzo is going to be winning over the next few years. That fucker.

Don't count on them winning anything. The chemistry will be horrible because, remember, Green thinks he's better than Roe. They'll kill each other, literally, opening an investigation on the program in which they'll learn that Michael Vick runs fighting dogs through there and buys Slurpees for the entire team, only to be reimbursed by the universtiy president. This is the downfall of the Spartan Empire.

Sorry, just wanted to see what it was like to be Zip for a while. Aside for the testicular shrinkage, it wasn't too bad. Now I understand.

Finally, Jethro posts something intelligent.

To me he seems to be a good defensive recruiting maneuver.

To me he seems to be a good defensive recruiting maneuver.

College coaches at big time programs don't have the luxury of recruiting a kid as a defensive measure. They need as much talent as possible, especially when the threat of early departure always looms. This wasn't for a second a defensive move, but if it works out that way as a coincidence, awesome.

BTW, now that Green is a Spartan, I definately think he's a superstar to be. lol

BTW, now that Green is a Spartan, I definately think he's a superstar to be. But Manny Harris still sucks.

Green will be a very good 4 year player. Considering the high level (potentially 2 or 3 and out) of talent that MSU has coming in, a talented, hard-working four year player like Green will do very nicely.

I like it. Rivals has something on Green saying Roe and him fit good together. If you can post it Art, it would be appreciated.

The thing I like is the sound of Roe, Lucious, and Green in the same class. That's top 10 at least, probably Top 5 again.

Inside D. Green's recruitment

I know there's some Michigan fans out there bummed today about the news of Saginaw's Draymond Green going to MSU.

But there is a bright side.

John Beilein was able to lay some groundwork during Green's recruitment to possibly get future players at Saginaw High and surrounding areas.

And it's clear, with an abundance of young talent, that these Trojans could contend for another state title next year.

Green - who claimed that he didn't have his mind made up until today - did make it a point to say that he wasn't even considering Michigan until he met Beilein.

And everyone I talked to up here in this basketball hotbed said that Beilein made a great impression on folks at the school and in the community.

He's trying.

One staffer at the school even said Beilein showed more interest in Saginaw and its players than a lot of other former Michigan coaches.

Again, that's just one person, so that could be way off, but it's a compliment nonetheless.

Football player Lamarr Woodley, who attended today's presser and has known Green for years, was impressed with Beilein's approach toward Green and seemed to appreciate the fact this new coach reached out to a now former Wolverine during the process.

Consider that another bonus as Beilein continues his pursuit of great relationships with former athletes.

Nobody in the Green camp would say today if Michigan was a close second in the sweepstakes.

But it definitely appears that way.

There was really only one brief mention of Indiana during the whole presser today, during Green's introductory comments before he annouced his decision.

Apparently Wake Forest also showed interest.

A side note: Given the slew of top recruits lined up for MSU, Tom Izzo now looks armed, dangerous and in the running for what could be a title run in 2009 - the year a Final Four comes to Detroit's Ford Field.

Another note: I asked Green about his physique and he says he's 6-6 and 240.

He's been sidelined with an ankle injury for a while but plans to get back to playing AAU ball in the coming weeks.

I can't stand the detroit papers. They are so pro-Michigan it makes me sick and I can't stand the shit they put out there. I don't care if they give a little props at the end or not, I can't even read their shit, it makes me sick.

This was a blog by a Michigan Insider Tre...Would you say the same thing if Dave Dye's blog was like this about MSU being their insider?

I didn't know it was a blog and if it is a blog from a UM insider than it is understandable. However, I'm dead on on the Detroit papers. This would be like something they'd do. MSU gets a 4 star commitment and they are talking about how wonderful UM did in the chase.

You are right, but MSU does get more love than you think...MSU basketball gets huge coverage. Just like Michigan football..
