http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:01 PM ET ) Good afternoon from New York on a perfect, sunny day. Feel free to rain as many KG and Kobe trade questions on me as you can.

Phil (Syracuse, NY): I'm absolutely sick of hearing about all of these trade talks, when it comes down to it no one is going to make a move just like what happened at the trade deadline. Everyone is just wasting their breath on this, your thoughts?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:03 PM ET ) I disagree, Phil. This is shaping up to be a summer of blockbusters, in part precicely because of the lack of action at the deadline. I mean, you've finally got KG legitimately in the mix. We've been waiting how long, three years for the Wolves to do what they're doing now?

Phil (LA): Will Kobe really sit out for an entire season if the Lakers don't trade him? What can possibly be done to correct this and have him come back happy?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:05 PM ET ) Before dropping into the chat room, I filed a blog entry on that very subject, Phil. It should be up shortly. It comes down to a question of who has the ultimate leverage here, and the Lakers might not be taking Kobe seriously on his trade request if they feel he'd ultimately never go through with a holdout. As I point out in the blog entry, the next most pertinent question that needs to be asked of Kobe is this: What will you do if the Lakers refuse to trade you?

Jack ( Detroit ) : What moves do you see the Pistons makeing ? will they be in on any big name s?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:06 PM ET ) Got something on that in the blog entry, too, Jack. Suffice to say they're zeroing in on Grant Hill, but they have to clear a couple salaries to free the money.

Rocky (NY): Chris, is it just me, or did EVERYONE underplay the Gasol trade market? I pity the GMs who think KG is, of late, a better player or commodity. He makes more money, and is 4 years older. I doubt KG or Kobe could have carried that bum Memphis team to a 6 seed a couple of years back. Shouldn't Gasol be the guy everyone is chasing, not KG or Kobe?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:08 PM ET ) With the recent upheaval in the Grizzlies' front office, a clear picture has not yet emerged on what direction the franchise is taking. Thy're still not going to give him away, no matter how many times and how many different ways Pau tells the Spanish media he wants out.

Chris (Orlando): Do you think the Knicks can make anything happen on the trade front? They do have some young talent.

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:09 PM ET ) They're keeping a close eye on the Kobe situation, and they''d like to be players in the Garnett chase. They, like a lot of teams, were taken aback when they heard how far the T-Wolves-Celtics talks had progressed.

Marc (Malden, MA): Does anyone know why KG doesn't want to play in Boston? A KG/PP combination easily gets them to the NBA Finals next year.

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:11 PM ET ) His agent did not specify the reasons, and it's really on Kev to explain that one himself., but there's no question the fact that Phoenix is in the mix contributed to his rejection.

Evan (Rocky Mount, NC): Am i the only that realizes that as great a player Michael Jordon was, he is as feeble a GM? I mean, is he capable of building a winner in Charlotte? Looking at his recent moves and his past ones in Washington, I think not. Just remember he passed up Rudy Gay to take Morrison. I nearly had a heart attack! And he fired Bickerstaff as coach...Bernie had them playing well beyond their potential!

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:14 PM ET ) Let's see what he does THIS summer with all his new guys in place before we pass judgement. And remember that he's working for an owner who hasn't been inclined to spend any money thus far. And until I see Bob Johnson actually go out and spend some of his cap room money on a free agent, I'm not convinced that Jordan truly has the freedom to put his own stamp on this team.

Tom (Sydney, Australia): Are the Pacers enquiring about a possible trade for Kobe Bryant? Given the Lakers will most likely move him to the Eastern Conference, and there have been rumors of a Jermaine O'Neal trade, wouldn't this be a great way to begin a new era in Indy? A trade such as JO and Dunleavy for Kobe and Kwame Brown works under the cap. Dunleavy would probably thrive in the triangle offense, and it would suit JO too. Kobe would be able to partner up with Danny Granger and Troy Murphy to build a contender in Indy. It would be kind of fitting to have another shooting guard as the franchise player don't you think? Is this a possibility at all?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:15 PM ET ) Not a possibility at all. Kobe wants to go to a major market.

Phillip(McGehee,Ar): Do you think KG would be a good fit with the "Heat"

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:18 PM ET ) He'd be a great fit, but there's no way they could get him. The guys the Heat want to trade are Jason Williams and Antoine Walker, but Williams has more value because of his expiring contract. Toine is locked up for two more years at nearly $18 million.

Ben (NYC): Chris, what do you think of Team USA rite now and how they will do this summer?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:20 PM ET ) They won;t have any competition at all in Vegas aside from Brazil. It'll probably be a pretty lame Tournament of the Americas. The real action is going to be at the Euro Championship in Madrid in September, with only two Olympic berths available.

John (Columbus, OH): Do you agree with Bill Simmons that KG to the celtics for Al Jefferson and the #5 would be a bad trade for the C's? He has a point that Big Al is on the verge of becoming special and KG would be a mild upgrade, not to mention older and WAY more expensive!

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:21 PM ET ) It's a moot point, really, but I was surprised to see that so many people agreed with Simmons on this one. It'
s like the whole town is drinking the Grousbeck kool-aid.

Steve (Sac): What you think of the hiring of Theus over Brown?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:23 PM ET ) Larry Brown was never really a player, although a phone call did take place btween him and Petrie, with Brown quickly coming to the conclusion that the Kings already had their minds made up. I'm still convinced Larry will be hanging over Mo Cheeks' shoulder in Philly the first time the Sixers lose four in a row next season.

Tom (PA): KG to the Lakers! With a third team involved the Lakers and Wolves could make this work. That would keep Kobe happy, wouldn't it??

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:24 PM ET ) The Lakers are doing their best to find somthing that would placate Kobe, and you;d think a KG trade might be just thething. I suspect we'll get a reading from Kobe publicly sometime in the next couple days.

perception: Yi is getting a ton of flak from fans who expect him to flop, and most of them think he'll flop because they don't think Chinese players can play. While Yao Ming may or may not be as good as his numbers suggest, he's still a legitimate player and one who has proven himself throughout his career. Wang and Bateer didn't have anything close to the physical capability to play in the NBA, so the only reason they get linked to Yi is the fact that they're Chinese. While I am not quite confident enough given all the question marks to proclaim him a perennial all-star, I can't believe so many people out there don't even think he can be an 11-6 type of guy in the NBA, and I think that's being pretty conservative...

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:25 PM ET ) Your comment speaks for itself.

Rocke (LA): There are a lot of rumors out there involving the Suns right now. What do you see them doing this offseason? Thanks.

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:27 PM ET ) I've been hearing too much Amare Stoudemire trade talk from too many different well-placed sources to dismiss it. If I had to pick whether it's more likely they trade Stoudemire or Shawn Marion, I'd go with Amare.

Glazer (NYC): Do me a favor and play GM for the Nets for a minute. What would you look to do this offseason?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:30 PM ET ) Re-sign Miiki Moore, try to sign-and-trade Vince Carter for Darko Milicic and Hedo Turkoglu, or try to swap Richard Jefferson for Zach Randolph. I know they'd like to be players for KG, but I'm hearing the T-Wolves aren't as hot on Jefferson as they once were.

Paul NYC: If Buss's interest is selling tickets why not send Kobe to the nets for Carter? Nets are moving to Brooklyn shortly and Kobe could play with Kidd.

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:31 PM ET ) If Buss insists on trading Kobe for a superstar, he's going to lose in that deal because there's no one comparable to Kobe.

Caleb, NY: Isiah Thomas obviously wants to get one of the big names (KG, Kobe)but do the Knicks have the pieces to get a deal done?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:35 PM ET ) I still blieve they have a chance at trumping the Bulls, at least on volume, if it coms down to those two teams in a two-horse race for Kobe. There are limits to what John Paxson will be willing to surrender, especially if he thinks it's a one-horse race in which the Knicks are not a player.

john (boston): Pierce + what = Kobe?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:36 PM ET ) The No. 5 pick and Delonte West, but I don't see Kobe accepting it.

Phil (LA): Chris, what's the one realistic move, if offerred, the Laker's can't turn down for trading Kobe?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:39 PM ET ) Nocioni, Gordon, Tyrus Thomas, Chris Duhon and the No. 9 pick.

Mark (LA): Let's talk money, not love. If your are Jerry Buss, do you agree that NY and Chicago have no players that sell tickets in Hollywood? If not, who will come close?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:40 PM ET ) If I'm Jerry Buss, I come out of a Kobe trade selling my fans on the fact that I'm angling to have a bezillion dollars of cap space in 2010 to go after LeBron and/or Dwyane Wade when they become free agents, and everything in the three years leading up to then will be part of the rebuilding process.

Pedro (NJ): Hey Chris, who do you see Ainge going for over the next 6 days before draft night. Do you agree that putting 19-20 yr. olds next to Pierce is not making him any younger! So A)Danny will try to get a big name with Pierce (giving up #5 and/or Al Jefferson). B) Keep the pick. Draft a guy like Brewer and try to move Pierce next offseason? Thanks. Keep up the good work!

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:44 PM ET ) I think Danny might have already played his best hand by going after KG, but I'd have to believe there's still a chance to get Pau Gasol if he is willing to give up Jefferson, Telfair and the pick along with Ratliff's contract.

John (Sacramento): Where do you see Mike Bibby playing next year?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:47 PM ET ) I think they'll ultimately be unable to trade him, unless they take Larry Hughes and change from Cleveland. Mike makes $28 million over the next two seasons, and it doesn;t help his trade value that he's coming off a poor year.

Ray (SA): Where do you see Finley playing next year?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:49 PM ET ) He has a player option for $3.1 million, which I expect he'll exercise to stay with the Spurs. He also gets $18.6 million from the Mavs, so it's not like he needs to be chasing the money somewhere cold.

Anthony (NY): Chris- more likely in NYC next year, Lewis or Bryant?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:50 PM ET ) Too soon to day. Check back with me after we hear from Kobe again.

Josh (Irvine, CA): Chris, I know this is a lot of players moving, but would a LAKERS offer of Odom, Bynum, Brown, Farmar, Evans , #19 , #40 and 2009 #1 in exchange for Garnett and Jaric be enough to get the Wolves to bite (no pun intended)? Thanks!

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:51 PM ET ) Good pun, and maybe. But the pick would have to be a 2009 No. 1, since you can;t trade No. 1 picks two years in a row.

ZDK (CT): I heard rumor last year of a Gooden for Banks, Thomas and the Cavs getting their first rounder back. Any chance this happens this offseason?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:53 PM ET ) It makes some sense if the cavs are confident they can re-sign Varejao.

Nathan (Detroit): what about a sheed/rip for KG combination. KG would be back with flip and chauncy and he would make the pistons almost unbeatable in the east.

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:54 PM ET ) The Pistons would love to get him, but they don't think the Timberwolves would trade him to them.

Jack, LA: The trade you proposed for LA is the best they could do for Kobe? 4 Non fulltime starters and a 9 Pick?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:55 PM ET ) In a closed market bidding against only one or two others teams, yes.

Ben, fredericton, Canada: What kind of move do you see Brian Colangelo making? Wouldn't the raps be able to put together a pretty decent package for a lot of veteran players without touching their core? It seems like Calderon, a Mo Pete sign and trade, a pcik and maybe another throw in would be enough to get the job done on a lot of teams. Think there's anyway Ray Allen could be grabbed from the conics?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:57 PM ET ) I think he's operating on a muh smaller scale, \Ben. He'll probably do a sign-and-trade with Mo Peterson, and he's bringing in Austrailian League MVP Sam Mackinnon for a summer league tryout. Keep an eye on Sam. He would have made it to the NBA years ago if not for two major knee injuries.

Brian (TO): Do you figure the full MLE gets Nocioni away from the Bulls? If so, is this the best prospect to fill the SF/rebounding hole in Toronto?

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (12:58 PM ET ) If he signs an offer sheet for the full MLE, the Bulls will match. Guaranteed.

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Sheridan: (1:00 PM ET ) That's a wrap for today, folks. Thanks for all the good questions. It's clear the hard-core fans are paying close attention. Keep checking the site this weekend for any and all updates on the Kobe and KG situations. Til next time ...

• One of the underlying reasons for the Carlos Delfino (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3728) deal, in which the Pistons got only two future second-rounders from Toronto, is that Detroit is trying to clear $5 million in salary cap space in order to free money for a mid-level free agent offer to Grant Hill (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=2626). But that will be no easy task for Joe Dumars, who needs to find takers for Lindsey Hunter (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=1281) (one year left at $2.25 million), Flip Murray and Ronald Dupree (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3788). If he can't deal them, he'll need to convince Murray ($1.9 million) and Dupree ($826,000) to decline their player options, which would free up an additional $2.7 million. I'm also hearing Antonio McDyess (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3004) is a lock to get an extension from the Pistons, which would keep him from opting out of his contract and becoming a free agent this summer.

LOL @ Marc (Malden, MA): Does anyone know why KG doesn't want to play in Boston? A KG/PP combination easily gets them to the NBA Finals next year.

Silly Celtics fans. In any event I hope KG doesn't get traded from Minnesota unless it's to here, the Wolves are my second favorite team (ugh).
