What do you guys think of Matt Barnes as a potential backup SF?

I really liked what I saw of him this year, and he's an unrestricted FA.

What kind of a contract do you think he'll get on the open market?

He kind of fits the Pistons "journeyman" mold, if the price is right, he could be a nice option.

Thoughts?

Maybe we can get him in a S&T for Nazr, lol.

I like the idea, Glenn, if he comes on the cheap. Otherwise, I just don't know if he provides enough. Also, I'd prefer to wait until Grant Hill makes it clear he isn't coming here before doing anything with Barnes.

What were his numbers? I remember watching a couple games and he seemed OK.

I like Matt Barnes a lot. Tons of energy and hustle.

i like him a lot too. he'd have to adapt to our style of play though. but he's pure hustle, heart, and energy. not to mention he has a nice perimeter game and can drive to the hoop too.

crazy as it may sound, i'd take him over hill every day of the week. he's younger and much more athletic. hill scares the hell out of me because he is walking a thin line right now and at any time may be forced to retire due to reoccurring injuries.

Am I wrong to think that the only reason he wouldn't play for Golden State is because we (or some other team) would overpay?

Matt Barnes played above his head this past season. Contract year. (See Jerome James, Chris Wilcox)

I say get somebody more proven.

I might agree with you except for the guys hustle. He just seems to really want to play hard regrardless of his contract.

I think that he would leave Golden State for a chance to win. He would be on a great team in Detroit that is always a favorite to win the East and in the West he would still have to deal with some real powerhouses.

Wilcox didn't have a -bad- season this year by any stretch.

Jerome James didn't have a good season. He had one good playoff, and against an injured Brad Miller no less. Isiah was just stupid.

ST him for Nazr, give him the same contract Nazr has.

Has the 3 point shoot and a good rebounder. When given minutes, he can drop points and isn't a horrible rebounder.

I'm kind of iffy though. He has only one good season and the seasons before that, he's never been give playnig time despite the fact he's been in the league since 03.

I like Matt's hustle, I like players who play like they give a shit. He just reminds me a lot of Mo Evans, who I never really liked much.

Larry Brown was high on the kid last year, then had to get rid of him as part of snarfing Qyntel Woods.

As near as I can figure, the kid started out with no perimeter shooting skills and has been working on it all this time and now he'a three point threat.

He averaged more minutes in the playoffs than season, which means that he was a late season bloomer.

Averaged 10.2 pts and 5.5 boards in 29 mins a game vs theJazz of pretty good shooting from the field including 3pt and about 80% ft shooting.

Agains the Jazz he scored 12.2 and grabbed 6 rebounds in 31.2 mins a game. He started in 2 of them as well.

If Barnes is given consistent playingtime, I think he can be a force off the bench and if needed, we can start him.

Is this speculation or are there actual rumors?

Pure speculation, Cross.

I was looking at GSW's roster situation for the mock draft and noticed that Barnes is a UFA, with Pietrus, Cabarkaba, Harrington and SJax all able to play minutes at the same position that he does.

If Joe D wants to add depth at SF (outside of what he does in the draft) Barnes is a younger alternative to Grant Hill.

I just really want a legit backup for Tay this year for the first time. I'm sick of bitching about it.

half of Golden State's roster can play the 3...no joke. Pietrus and Jrich are the ones I'd love to see in a Pistons uniform. If it wasn't for the Warriors beating the MAvs, and Jrich being a huge part to their late success, I could easily see him in a Pistons uniform by October. Too bad Richardson is not so hot on the block anymore
