View Full Version : Image Size
Wizzle 06-21-2007, 02:39 PM Can one of you Image wizards help me out here.....I have images that I am loading into a program that are just way too big. If I go to take a look at them after I've loaded them in, they take up the whole screen and you only see a 1/4 of the whole picture. I can export the pic as a JPEG Image....is there any way to then take it and re-size the thing so it isn't so huge. I know it's not the program because it is not all of the pictures.....some are smaller and work fine. I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks.
simple way, using MS Paint:

btw, what are you using these pics for? sending them via email? posting them online? depending on the application, you should consider the proper size.
Wizzle 06-21-2007, 02:59 PM thanks Matt, I'll give that a try.
It's for a property record data base. The images are things like a house, commercial building, corn field....etc. I need to be able to, while in each property record, pull up the corresponding pic.
Wizzle 06-21-2007, 03:14 PM I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but that seems to just be cropping out a portion of the entire image
Put your arrow on the bottom right of the image and drag it bigger. MS paint doesn't adjust the "canvas" (the viewable area) to match the size of the picture you open.

Waydowntownbang 06-21-2007, 04:23 PM When you've got the MS Paint window open and you open the picture that is freaking huge, hit Alt-W and it opens the resize window. From there, shrink down by percentage - make sure both percentages are the same.
From experience, it keeps a better quality when you drop it to 90%/90% over and over rather than dropping it to say, 30% once. The bigger the resize all at once, the more the quality lacks.
WTFchris 06-21-2007, 04:24 PM Microsoft Photo editor also does the job. My PC came with it, not sure if yours did.

Wizzle 06-25-2007, 02:08 PM I give up
wizzle, here's an easy way if you're still having trouble: goto: http://imageshack.us/
choose your pic, check the "resize image" box, choose the size (800x600 should suffice, depending on what you're using it for).
once you click "host it", the very bottom link will be the link to the actual pic. copy/paste that link into your browser. right click on the pic and select "save as" and save it to your desktop.
Wizzle 06-25-2007, 02:36 PM thanks a ton Matt, it actually worked
now I just gotta do that a couple hundred times and I'll be all set
wizzle, if you're doing that many, i highly recommend you look into "batch resizing".
check out this tutorial:
http://www.eaph.com/iDriveHelp/tutorials/IrfanviewBatchResizeCompress.htm
it'll take a little while to learn, but it'll save you tons of time and headache.
Wizzle 07-25-2007, 03:42 PM okay, we can now change the name of this thread to "Wizzle needs computer help" or "Wizzle - the computer dumbass"
New problem: I can't get Flash Player to download. I go the site and start the download and it seems to get started and then just stops....no message no error, no sorry jackass that download is not going to happen....it just stops.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something else I can do? Please, anybody (Matt), help me. I can't get either 1130 or 1270 internet radio without it. My work day is severly suffering.
