Ok, so most people know about this kid. Top 25 player in the class of 2008. 5 stars no matter who you listen to. 6'11", 220-ish.

Most also know Beilein is recruiting him. I don't think he'll end up at Michigan, but I wanted to explore a hypothetical situation and ask the question: What kind of impact would he have at Michigan. Based on that consideration, here's my bold statement.

Tyler Zeller would be the biggest recruit Michigan has landed in the last 20 years.

Seriously? A big white goof the size of Josh Asselin, only uglier? Yep.

Here's why.

1. It would prove Beilein can recruit the top talent at Michigan and hopefully start a trend that ends up with Michigan among the top 20 teams in the country.

2. He would come legit. Meaning no GM employee running a home based gambling ring would contribute to his bank account. Yeah, Webber was 10 times the specimen Zeller will ever be, but he never existed, remember? Nor did anyone from any team that ever got paid. Even then, none of those players had the mantle of bringing Michigan back from the dead.

3. No other Michigan recruit in the last 20 years (except maybe Eric Riley if he counts) has been highly rated and actually used that ranking to accomplish something for the record books of the program. Again, think of all that has been erased. Now think of what is still there and it's nothing. Yes, 20 years gets us back to the 89 Championship, but all the players instrumental in winning that were recruits from 21-23 years ago.

A lot of my other reasons fit somewhere in the middle of those 3 things.

So this kid hasn't committed, probably won't, but what kind of impact would he (or any other top 25 kid, 5 star) have?

From what I remember Magic was recruited a few more years ago than 20. Besides, with all that you've done to talk about the next three classes coming in, I seriously doubt you could single out any player.

You know who would be great for MSU - LeBron James and Greg Oden. MSU would have been the spot for LeBron had he decided on college(he said they interested him the most before he decided on the NBA), and Oden had MSU #2 after Izzo backed off thinking he'd be straight to the NBA.

I think that'd be good, and is more realistic, even at this point.

I was refering to your statements towards State fans in those recruitments.

And I never said he was a lock to UNC, or that they will get everyone they offer, but a school like UM is rarely going to get recruits over UNC at this point assuming childhood favorites, location, etc. aren't the reasons for the decision.
