Cross 05-19-2007, 08:13 AM Game looks really cool and realistic. Alot of new things added plus new units. Graphics of course are much better.

WTFchris 05-21-2007, 10:36 AM I checked out their site this morning. The graphics look really good. However I still think it's far behind Warcraft 3. Without the hero aspect it will never be as good. Starcraft was really fun, but it was basically about massing a shit load of units (no food limit and no heros with special abilities), and then sending them all at somoene's town. WC3 has heros that allow you to hero harass, creep against PC creatures to gain experience, items and money for your heros, and has town portals to defend your town. All these make the game much better in terms of game play.
Cross 05-21-2007, 11:07 AM I think starcraft was much more fun although im enjoying frozen throne much more. SC was much more of a strategic game. Of course there are those players where you just get a shitload of units and attack but those players weren't very skilled. In starcraft, you actually had tot hink. Beleive me, there are so many good strarcraft players in korea its unbelievable. The way the players place their barracks, hell their timing of dropping the reaver is perfect.
However, this game looks lilke it when too advanced without having a game between in it. Looks like their will be a bigger learning curve compared to sc original and broodwar.
I know blizzard tried to make starcraft ghost where you could actually control a single unit? That didn't go very well...game got cancelled.
I have to agree that having that Hero makes the game much more fun but controlling more units at a time seems to be more fun to me
WTFchris 05-21-2007, 12:53 PM Well, in WC3 you still control all those units. Yes, they have heros, but it's not like World of Warcraft. You still have your army, but you have the heros that can get bigger the more you kill. The problem with Starcraft and prior WC's is that there is so much down time to start a game. You need to build up your town quite a bit before you can actually attack someone. With the heros, you can have no army and still battle. You creep or hero rush and continue to add to your army as you go. Or you can tech straight to a higher level unit while your allies harass the other team to stall. You can tower rush (if you are good). There is a lot more flexability in what strategy to adopt.
Starcraft was cool because if you built your base really well you could hold off huge attacks. But Warcraft is more about the units you build and their combinations with your teammates, and also when to attack and when to creep...that detirmines the outcome.

That's me right there. I blockaded and strongheld the shit out of early WCs.
WTFchris 05-21-2007, 01:04 PM Yeah, you really can't hide in your base in WC3. Most races have a hero that can level up to 6, get their ultimate, and take our large groups of towers. Plus all races have some form of siege that can hit farther than towers. I still always build a tower or two to stop rushes, but after that you don't really build many. I do enjoy tower rushing with humans and watching noobs cry. unless they are a human themselves, it's very hard to stop when done properly.
Defense is always the funnest (for me). I used to love watching a guy overcomit, then hold off his best stuff and pretty much walk into his place and take it over barehanded.
Cross 05-22-2007, 06:21 AM good point there chris. the beginning is usually the most boring part of starcraft, unless you get rushed. however I think build order in the beginning is the most important part so i actually love the beginning, especially if you get rushed.
if you want to talk about downtime, when you level up to about 20 ish in frozen throne and you die, respawaning takes forever. 60 seconds is probably about average and losing those 60 seconds hurts.
anyone played the use map settings game vulture control for starcraft? Control is probably the one of the most important parts of star. however in frozen throne, u can really control only one unit, and that being your hero. Ion know, thats not really fun. using one unit throughout the whole game.

I enjoy building as well.
Since you can't level past 10, I know you are streatching that one a tad. but it does take a long time to get high level heros back. The sneaky player (one that has ample expansions) buys their hero back at the nuetral hero hall. It costs a lot but you get them instantly. That's why you can let your hero die, take out their army while they focus on your hero, you buy him back (I often leave a worker near the nuetral hall) and send him right back in. You lose significant resources, but since you are probably near max food anyway it doesn't matter.
WTFchris 05-22-2007, 10:41 AM BTW, the recent starcraft talk has prompted me to probably get the original for some old fashioned fun. I still have the brood wars CD, but not the original.
