View Full Version : Will 2007 be "the year of the Detroit champions"?
Glenn 05-15-2007, 12:58 PM The Pistons are the favorites to win the East and get to the NBA Finals.
The Wings are looking good, so another Stanley Cup is a real possibility.
The Tigers should be right there at the end of the season once Zoom & Kenny return, it would appear that a trip back to WS is there for the taking if they can get past Boston.
Wouldn't it be a trip to have the Detroit sports teams hold all three championships, simultaneously?
Of the three sports (NBA, NHL, MLB), how many do you think we'll actually win, and which ones?
No need to discuss that "other team" here (please).
Zip Goshboots 05-15-2007, 02:23 PM I'll take the first dive:
I think the Pistons are going to win the NBA championship this year. They have enough scorers to occupy all the defensive attention of the other teams now, and they seem to have gone back to their defensivie roots. Their only weakness is that they can go through many possessions without scoring, and things can bog dowon offensively and look downright ugly. But they play great together, and all seem to be on the same page at all times.
I'm not looking for the Wings to win it this year. They are too thin defensively, and have shown a tendency to be very susceptible to a good forecheck. Everyone on the Wings seems to be about 5'10 and 180, where these other teams throw some serious beef at you. Their two best players, Zetterberg and Gadzooks, can be neutralized too easily, and don;t seem to yet have the playoff intensity or nuances down yet. If they get by Anaheim, which I am at this point seriously doubting unless some kind of light goes on as it did in Game 4 vs San Jose, I see Ottawa crushing them.
As for the Tigers, baseball is such a marathon that it is too tough to call for me, but I now see a World Series between the Mets and Boston.
Glenn 05-15-2007, 02:35 PM I actually think it's somewhat realistic that we could win all three.
I wonder if you can get odds on that in Vegas, and what those odds would be.
WTFchris 05-16-2007, 11:50 AM Put me down for two of them. I think the Pistons are a definate (I think the last two games will be a big wake up call for them).
I think the Wings or Tigers will do it as well. I'm assuming Kenny and Zoom come back healthy and we avoid any major injuries going into the playoffs. If those happen I like the Tiger's chances as much as any other team. The Wings have a good shot, but they may run out of gas with the injury bug biting them. We'll see.
Big Swami 05-16-2007, 12:21 PM Go Lions!
Glenn 05-16-2007, 12:24 PM I hate to even mention this, but did anyone else hear that jagoff Bill Simonson saying that he thinks the Lions are going to the NFC Championship game THIS YEAR yesterday? He also said that they'll go 10-6 and win the division.
I seriously don't know why people listen to him or why he has a job. I was listening to Jim Rome at lunch and when I turned the car back on after work "Huge" was on the same station, or I wouldn't have even stumbled across his garbage show.
WTFchris 05-16-2007, 12:41 PM Wow, the Lions won't even win the division, let alone the NFC. IF the OL people they added actually block marginally well AND Jones comes back healthy AND our LB's can stay on the field AND someone steps up at CB...then we might have a chance at a winning record. Like a %5 chance if ALL of those happen.

Wilfredo Ledezma 05-18-2007, 10:28 AM Michigan has a legit shot at winning the BCS Title this year, nobody in the country returns as much offensive power as we do...
plus Michigan State Basketball is loaded and will compete for a Final Four...so even our college teams are gonna own in 07
WTFchris 05-18-2007, 10:41 AM I guess technically the BCS won't be this year though, since the game is played in January of 08. Same goes for the final 4, which won't be until next year.

Zip Goshboots 05-20-2007, 07:51 PM Hey Mitch, how'd that Ohio State and Rose Bowl game work out?
Wilfredo Ledezma 05-21-2007, 10:09 AM u mean BCS title game...not Rose Bowl
Zip Goshboots 05-21-2007, 10:23 AM I wasn't aware the Michigan played in the BCS title game. Sorry.
Timone 05-27-2007, 02:00 AM lol at Michigan and offensive power.
Glenn 04-18-2009, 05:43 AM ah, memories
Darth Thanatos 04-18-2009, 02:46 PM That Michigan team never came close to a BCS title.
