View Full Version : The best names (or nicknames) in baseball Glenn 05-10-2007, 03:18 PM What are some of the best names or nicknames in the game today? Yuniesky Betancourt is one of my favorites. Glenn 05-10-2007, 04:58 PM I also like Carlos Delgado, especially if you say it in your best Harry Kalas voice (ala Kalas' old "Mickey Morandini" call). Zip Goshboots 05-10-2007, 06:43 PM Joel "Someone's Crying, Lord" Zoomaya IN case you're wondering, that's not to laugh at Zumaya's injury. It's a takeoff on "Someone's crying, Lord, KOOM BY YA" Glenn 05-11-2007, 01:50 PM How about Khalil Greene? Has there ever been a guy that looked more like a Khalil? http://www.photofile.com/Photos/Albums/05_Baseball/Studios/Padres/Images/05GreeneKhalilStudio.jpg Fool 05-11-2007, 01:57 PM Wasn't that the name of the dude who died in the Red Hot Chilli Peppers? He kind of looks like that guy too. Glenn 05-11-2007, 02:02 PM Wasn't that the name of the dude who died in the Red Hot Chilli Peppers? He kind of looks like that guy too. Close. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillel_Slovak Vinny 05-11-2007, 04:24 PM I miss Darnell Coles. Waydowntownbang 05-11-2007, 04:36 PM Has there ever been a guy that looked more like a Khalil? He's missing the L, but you get the idea ;) http://www.wwe.com/content/media/images/Superstars/29272/3564692 Vinny 05-14-2007, 04:17 PM Taylor Tankersley and Troy Tulowitzki are a couple of good ones. Glenn 05-14-2007, 04:18 PM Even though he used to kill the Tigers (along with Jerry Hairston and Ernie Whitt) I really used to like Rance Mulliniks. Wizzle 05-14-2007, 04:37 PM Milton Bradley Coco Crisp Man-Ram Fernando Rodney = wtF Rod Jethro34 05-14-2007, 05:05 PM Ditto to Wizzle. I was coming to represent some of the same names. Ozzie Smith, the Wizard, was pretty cool. What's with Torii? First, a guy can't be named that, it's a chick name. Second, the spelling really puts it over the top. I think Pudge is a cool nickname. Barry Zito has a nice ring to it. Big Papi. I always liked Don Mattingly. It just sounded cool and sophisticated. Cecil Fielder was great - Fat Cec - and it's fitting that Prince would be a pretty cool name as well. One of my favorite players of all time was Fred McGriff - the crime dog. I just don't think it will ever get cooler than Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Ty Cobb, Willie Mays, Don Drysdale, Duke Snider, Stan Musial, etc. Fool 05-15-2007, 08:25 AM I miss Darnell Coles. Darnell Coles and Chet Lemon were my favorite players as a kid. Wilfredo Ledezma 05-18-2007, 02:17 PM Chicago White Sox 3rd Base Coach is named "RAZOR SHINES"...tell me thats not the coolest name in baseball! Jethro34 05-18-2007, 02:45 PM Who wants to tell Wil that, while spectacular, his sig is waaaaaaay too big? Seems like a Glennism. Zip Goshboots 05-18-2007, 06:40 PM Jamie "Shoes" Huffman, the main cog in the Michigan State run to the national championship in 1979. Glenn 06-05-2007, 05:13 PM Angel Pagan. Timone 06-05-2007, 07:25 PM Yeah, Angel Pagan. Gotta check his lineage though. Glenn 06-14-2007, 11:44 AM Hiram Bocachica (former Tiger, current Padre) In Spanish, "boca"=mouth and "chica"=girl. That's a rough last name. Wizzle 06-14-2007, 12:57 PM new kid pitching for the Reds -- Homer Bailey WTFchris 06-14-2007, 02:39 PM Interesting list of names here (obviously most are not current players): http://blogzarro.com/?p=71 |
