Paris Ordered to Serve 45 Days in Jail
Posted May 4th 2007 7:16PM by TMZ Staff
A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge has sentenced Paris Hilton to 45 days in L.A. County jail for violating her probation in a reckless driving case. Judge Michael T. Sauer handed down the harsh sentence, telling Paris she will not be allowed work release, furloughs, use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail. She must do the time!
An emotional Paris, with tears welling up in her eyes, told the judge moments before the decision "I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Witnesses inside the courtroom say that Paris' parents, Rick and Kathy Hilton, were both visibly upset as the sentence was handed down. Kathy, we're told, was especially distraught.
Paris Hilton: Click to watchThe judge called out her rep Elliot Mintz in court, describing his testimony as "completely worthless." He also told Paris that he did not believe that she was unaware of her license suspension, adding that she had paperwork in her car stating that her license was suspended.
Shortly after the punishment was handed out, defense attorney Howard Weitzman said he would appeal. "I'm shocked, I'm surprised and really disheartened in the system that I've worked in for close to 40 years," Weitzman said, adding that the sentence was "uncalled for, inappropriate and bordered on the ludicrous. I think she's singled out because of who she is."
Paris will serve her sentence at the Century Regional Detention Facility (CRDF). She will begin her sentence on June 5. If Hilton fails to report on the scheduled date, her sentence will be doubled.

Not that I really care one way or the other whether the girl who puts the whore in heiress does jail time... but that judge is clearly grandstanding for the cameras with an over-the-top sentence.
Uncle Mxy 05-07-2007, 09:15 AM It's not over-the-top. 45 days is what the prosecution asked for, and the judge made the unusual step of grantung it. Normally, there's a negotiaton and judges will end up giving less than what the prosecution recommends as long as the defendent (and reps) doesn't do dumbass things at sentencing (e.g. showing up late, having your mom laugh during the closing arguments, bringing attorneys who insult the judge's intelligence -- Paris did all that!).

Why are we so fascinated with people who have nothing but contempt for us?
^ Because your girlfriend is hot so you take her shit.
WTFchris 05-07-2007, 11:58 AM I'll never understand why so many Americans care about a no talent, skinny rich girl that's done nothing to benifit society.
Zip Goshboots 05-07-2007, 12:02 PM I'll never understand why so many Americans care about a no talent, skinny rich girl that's done nothing to benifit society.
Well, considering that 99.9% of us do nothing to benefit society, I'd say she's one of us, but with money!
WTFchris 05-07-2007, 12:22 PM ^I disagree. I think I benifit society more than her. Shit, my garbage man does more to benifit society. Everyone in the working class does more than her.
Oh wait, she's rich. Maybe I'll go subsribe to people and Tivo entertainment tonight. I just can't get enough information on how celebreties live their lives.
We need less news about drug rehabs and shit like that and more news on people helping in a soup kitchen, or building homes for people who can't afford them, or reading to kids. Whatever. I'm so sick of hundreds of people stalking celebs to find out how they broke the law instead of finding out the good things happening in the world.

Instead of E! we could have the compassion channel, 24 hours a day of people-helping-people news and stories. Would you watch that channel? Would anyone?
WTFchris 05-08-2007, 04:07 PM Lol, i have to admit nobody would watch it at all. then again, shows like extreme makeover home edition do get pretty good ratings. Obviously crap sells though and it's just a business. I can't fault People magazine or E! or the photographers either. I fault the people who buy that shit.
Zip Goshboots 05-08-2007, 04:24 PM People buy that shit because they're so damn bored and fed up with their wonderfully frustrating existence.
Big Swami 05-15-2007, 12:17 PM I have to admit, raging about how Paris Hilton is about as useful a fart in a mitten is probably more fun than worrying about rising sea levels.

I have to ask though, is it really any different or better or worse than being obsessive-compulsive about athletes and sports teams?

Yes. We don't follow RIP around everywhere in his daily life. People obsessing with sports is the same as obsessing with the Singer/Actor doing their job. The part I don't understand is the obsession with everything outside their job. Both are entertainers in some way. In sports is stays on the court, for the most part.
Jethro34 05-17-2007, 02:40 PM I just really want to see the movie, that's all. Otherwise I could care less about the bimbo squad. Nicole Richie, the HO from Mean Girls - oh yeah, Lindsey Lohan, thankfully forgot the name for a minute, Brittany Spears, Christina Aguilera, screw em all. But if there's a point in time when they're skinny but not too skinny and naked in a good way, I'm down.
WTF. i turn on the news today and it looks like there's some huge news story taking place........fucking media is all over Paris Hilton's judge visit.
the idiot is like 30 minutes late for her trial.
i really do hope they throw her ass back in jail.

Tahoe 06-08-2007, 03:42 PM I feel for her a lil. I mean she has been pretty much insulated from reality by the family riches. It's prolly harder than what we think to be so rich and have everyone cater to your every need. You prolly wouldn't have a grasp of life.
She should be let go, imo. She does seem to be in the middle of a break down.
Like I just heard on the tube...Mary Winkler goes to jail fo 270 days for shooting her husband in the back and PH goes for 45 for a whatever it was. I don't think I'd be going for that long. I really don't.
Waydowntownbang 06-08-2007, 03:51 PM Yeah, I can't imagine having to handle all the stresses of drugs, partying and making sex videos. Tough life - I've got a ton of sympathy for her.
Maybe I'll send her an Applebee's giftcard.

She's a drunk driver.
She shouldn't be hung, but she should get the shit slapped out of her and a lesson taught to her.
Period.
Tahoe 06-08-2007, 04:42 PM She didn't get jail time cuz of a dui, iirc, its for driving under a suspended. If you believe Judge Napaltono, he can't find a case where some got 45 days for this.
I don't think rich peeps should be above the law but they shouldn't be made examples of either.
I fucking hate judges.

This girl has disregarded laws her entire life. According to the article below, "She pleaded no contest to reckless driving and was sentenced to 36 months' probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines. In the months that followed she was stopped twice while driving on a suspended license. The second stop landed her in Sauer's courtroom."
You can't say 'fuck the judge' for trying to teach this bitch a lesson. I think ALL judges should hold people accountable, especially the ones that could give two shits about our legal system.

whatever it was was DD'ing and driving wrecklessly while doing so. AND then having her license suspended but continuing to drive. she got caught not once but TWICE. hell yes she deserves to go to jail. she has no respect for other people, or the law. just because she doesnt like it doesnt mean we should wait for her to run over someone before we treat her like EVERYONE ELSE.
this is very 'tale of two cities'ish. to say theleast, im thrilled that paris gets what she deserves. i hope she sees every day of that sentence now.

But its not what she deserves if you believe Judge Napalitano. No one else gets that time.
Just cuz we don't like her doesn't mean she gets extra time.
b-diddy 06-08-2007, 10:05 PM http://orangecountycriminaldefenselaw.com/criminal-defense/driving-on-a-suspended-license.htm
i think you might be spinning some old wive's tales.
note, near the end, it says prosecutors often request 10 day minimum sentences for 1st time violators of driving w/ a suspended license related to a dui. it also mentions 2nd violations also can include jail time. assume 10 day minimus, 2x10=20 days minimum. arent minimums often times 1/2 the actual sentence?
now take into consideration paris's blatant disregard for society, the law, and the wellbeing for others and i think its more than justifiable that she get a full 45 days.
i also think its laughable that you say its jealousy that people want her in jail. jealousy? yea, i'd like to inheret millions for doing jack shit, but paris is about the last person in the world im jealous of. she's a disgusting human being with no redeeming qualities.
DennyMcLain 06-08-2007, 10:58 PM She pulled a Michael jackson several times during the original proceeding, having to be threatened INTO the courtroom, not to mention her mother laughing during the trial.
But the deal with Baca is pure brilliance. I live in an area owning two world-class law enforcement bosses: Sheriff Baca and LAPD Cheif Bratton. Baca, knowing he was in a no-win situation, decided to release Hilton due to the system being "overcrowded". He knew she was mentally unstable and possibly a suicide risk. He also knew that, by doing this, he would force the judges hand in making the next move... and Sauer did EXACTLY what Baca thought he would do.
Now, if "poor lil' Paris" takes her own stupid, useless life in the pokey (more likely after she leaves the big house -- surely she'll be on suicide watch while inside), Baca's hands are clean.
After all, he told us so.
Brilliant.

Yea prolly not the best choice of words but I don't understand the hate. I don't really care about her, but why do peeps hate her so much. There are plenty of folks that drive under a revoked license. That'd be a lot of hating to do.
One last attempt to get across how I'm feeling about this. I don't like Paris Hilton and I dont' hate her. But I don't like fucking judges to discriminate against peeps. I 'think' or 'feel' she has been based on what Judge Napalitano said. I don't like discrimination.

Do you think that 23 days in jail is too much for someone who drank and drove, and then lost their license for it, and then did it - scratch that- got CAUGHT doing it - again twice more?
Personally, I don't.
MikeMyers 06-09-2007, 02:48 PM This is a complicated situation when it shouldn't be. First of all, I blame the public for Paris Hilton. If nobody paid attention, she wouldn't be in the media. Do I envy her money? Of course I do. Who wouldn't want to wake up at 10 am every morning in a million dollar home and have a bentley in the driveway and can go anywhere they please without having to worry about the price?
I think the judge in the case may have gone overboard. Its obvious that she is truly in distress over this and this breakdown isn't an act. When you live in mansions and sit on leather all your life then this will come to you in a major shock. Its not like a lot of other millionaires who have grown up from humble beginnings and can handle a few rough nights. If I was the judge, I would have sentenced her to 10 days in jail and a lot of community service (picking up trash on the side of the freeway).

She didn't get caught drinking and driving 3 times.
I think she should get what everyone else gets and from what Judge Napalitano said, they don't get 45 days in jail for driving under a suspended. They're making an example of her.

She's not the first person to be made an example of. She disregarded the entire system, and as someone said above, her mother LAUGHED while in court.
It's no secret that those who come into a courtroom modest, apologizing for their actions and saying that they have learned their lesson (even if they haven't), get a much better deal from a judge.
Those that come in, make a mockery of the system, laugh in the courtroom, do these things that show a judge that they really don't give a shit about their current situation - they become the example.
I have NO problem with that at all.
As for the cameras and such being all over her, a tiny part of me feels bad for her that this whole thing is all over the world - but then again, she's someone who is famous for being famous - and plastering herself all over TV, so does it become a question of 'what's fair', or is it a matter of karma biting her square in the ass?
I say, if you made your bed, you are to lie in it.

Agreed. In fact, this COULD be the best thing that ever happened to her. Paris Hilton, to this point, has yet to live in Reality. There are vids of her smacking into a parked car (many times), and she laughs like it's a joke. She can get into any restaurant or night club she wishes, buy anything she wants, and generally act like a spoiled bitch and get away with it. That, and the long-proven fact that she's an airhead, creates a perfect storm for what has transpired.
I do not, in the slightest, feel sorry for her. The system isn't slamming her -- she's slammed herself. Here's a woman who can be limo'ed anywhere she likes, but she CHOOSES to drive under a revoked license. It was her choice to try to NOT show up to court. Anybody who blames her lawyer for that is a fucking fool. Paris is old enough to make her own decisions -- and her decision, probably, was to fire her attorney if he didn't do exactly what she wanted.
People like Brandon Davis, Paris Hilton, and Nicole Ritchie I have NO sympathy for. They were born rich, grew up rich, and live rich. Their parents ("family lineage" for Hilton) worked their asses off to make those fortunes. IMO, these spoiled fucks taint the family name with their antics.
On the flip side, individuals like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears, who are only two steps from trailer trash, should and do have a more difficult time adjusting to fame and wealth. Though they, too, are responsible for their actions, the three above had the upbringing and the options available to be cultivated into rightful heirs to the family fortunes.
b-diddy 06-09-2007, 04:56 PM i see things like "the simple life" as paris basically saying 'i would be dead within two minutes if i had to live like a common asshole. im better than everyone else".
honestly, like i said earlier, i think she really personifies the differences in class in america. basically, were not supposed to have classes, huge inheritences in wealth, or the aristocratic system. and yet theres Monseigneur Marquis St. Evrémonde cruising around in his stage coach looking to run over peasants.
