This story is a few days old at least, but I never really got a chance to psot anything and no one else did either.
Text messaging recruits has gotten insanely popular, and I'm guessing the top recruits could possibly get hundreds of text messages per day.
This doesn't go into effect until August I think.
But I'm curious to hear some reaction on this. I tend to think the ban is a good thing. First of all, coaches could possibly run up some huge bills for kids that don't have a good plan. Next, it would probably be terribly difficult to monitor if everything being sent is legit. Guys were going to find a way to use it to get around a number of other rules, I'm sure.
Anyway, like I said, I want to hear what some of our other posters think about it.

At first I thought it was retarded. I was like, "How on earth are you going to monitor that?" Are you going to demand phone records from every recruit on Earth?!
But somebody on the radio made a good point. These are high school kids and many of them come from struggling families. Every text costs money. These coaches are running up the bills of these hs kids that can't afford it. Even if they get unlimited text, they probably can't afford that. I know I don't have unlimited text on my phone. And they have to check the texts because if they aren't responding to a coach, the coach may look elsewhere thinking the kid isn't interested.
So after that, good move. No idea how they'll monitor it though.

I've never heard of a cell phone provider that charges for incoming texts. Now if a kid is dumb enough to respond as ooposed to calling from his cell phone (weekend/night minutes) or using mom's free long distance then its not a big deal then he is just asking for trouble. I agree this ban is a great thing, but what happens in 2 years when there is new technology and 2 years after that and 10 years from now when you can just use your Darth Vader/Yoda skills and send mind messages................will it ever end? (I just read this and realized I sounded like Zip......yuck!)

If you don't have a text package, Verizon charges .15 per text regardless if it is sent or received. That means if a kid doesn't send a single text but gets 10 each day from coaches, he's looking at $45 per month.

I have Verizon and have no text package and do not get charged for incoming text at all. I assume you are correct with what you're saying Jethro, but its all a moot point because its banned now.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA..............I have to tell you Zip that was THE funniest thing I have heard in a long ass time. At least 80% of the time you post there are no coherent thoughts what so ever and you are easily one of the most idiotic people ever. Obviously I don't know you (thank god) and I have no right to make a judgement about you, but the fact that someone married you and bore a child with you after listening to you on here makes me question all of man kind!
