View Full Version : I want Telfair as a Piston (old thread)
Baker 04-24-2007, 07:25 PM Now that Telfair is free to go where he wants, I want the Pistons to jump on it. I'd love to have Telfair as our backup point guard and have him learn under Chauncey. I don't think Telfair is just another punk after this gun thing. I watched a long documentary on him, his life, and his relationship with his brother. I think he made a mistake and Detroit would be the perfect team for him. He'd be a great addition and he would have veterans around him to lead him in the right direction.
ESPN reported the release and they said that many teams will come calling because the kid can play. I hope Detroit is one of them.
b-diddy 04-24-2007, 07:56 PM unlike hermy, i also think this guy has a ton of god given talent.
i dont like the idea of him being our primary backup though. not at all. fighting blaylock for 3 rd string sounds good. i dont think he'll ever be a true pg.
Zip Goshboots 04-24-2007, 08:42 PM Why would you want him if you don't like him at PG? If he has a ton of "god given" talent, what exactly IS it?
He isn't even six feet tall (though he's listed at 6'0), so again, if not at PG, WHERE? Maybe at center? Just think, if he's a center, his best attribute would be that the center he's guarding wouldn't be able to see him. He might be able to get a few steals that way.
There would also have to be a new foul, called the "Telfair", where you get stepped on instead of charged into.
Geez, just another New York playground legend who was better in the hood than in the League.
Jethro34 04-24-2007, 09:18 PM People keep talking about him and saying everyone peaks at some point. He peaked at 17.

Oh I totally believe he's a point guard. I don't think he's another Starbury. He plays like a point. Just like many others, he needs some guidance and the right situation.
BubblesTheLion 04-25-2007, 12:40 AM He ain't shit. Why do people talk about this scrub so much.
b-diddy 04-25-2007, 12:51 AM hes going to land on the same team as darko, and atleast a few 'experts' are going to have them winning 15 games more than they should
what can i say, im a sucker for talent and giving guys second chances. and im going to have to disagree with everyone but tre, it seems. anyone with bastian's first step should have a place in this league. i think his development has been derailed to the point that he probably doesnt have much hope left of ever making it. but if rashad phillips doesnt have a place in the nba, where is telfair's? at this point, i'd bring in phillips from ? over telfair. but like i said, i wouldnt mind giving him a chance to beat out blaylock for our 3rd pg spot.
Zip Goshboots 04-25-2007, 08:14 AM How romantic, you call him Bastian!
I'm OK with giving guys second chances, and having talent as well. Telfair isn't talented enough to warrant a second chance. Worrying about who will be the third string point guard would prbably be classified as worrying WAY TOO MUCH about anything, diddy.
Uncle Mxy 04-25-2007, 09:10 AM Can we get Rodney White too, can we, can we please?
<groan>
Hermy 04-25-2007, 09:27 AM I know of no player who is an average distributor, average shooter, awful defender, and compensates for his sub 6 foot size with blazing speed. There are little guys in this league, but not like that. He may have a Chucky Atkins career, but I'm not chancing that after the guy just got a gun charge. That's a move for a desperate/foolish franchise, not one with more players than roster spots come next year.
metr0man 04-25-2007, 10:34 AM I'd rather have someone like Acie Law, who has a ton of college experience, already idolizes Billups (has said so in interviews), who we can start over with in terms of developing instead of with a FAILURE like Telfair. F telfair.
(the F stands for Fuck)
Baker 04-25-2007, 10:53 AM Imagine if the Pistons had not given Billups a 2nd shot after bouncing around with an extremely disappointing early career.

See: MXY's Rodney White post.
Big Swami 04-26-2007, 09:10 AM You gotta have the right balance. Some people are not crazy enough, some people are too crazy. We have a whole roster full of dudes who are just crazy enough. Telfair's too young for anyone to know whether he's going to be more like Rasheed Wallace or more like Stephen Jackson.
I can tell you though - repeated gun violations don't paint a good picture at the moment. That's not something you get with anyone in Detroit. They might get shot at sometimes, or smoke a little weed, but being caught carrying steel makes you look like a dummy.

Imagine if billups like to run around with loaded guns. I tell ya, some people have no idea of linear comparison.
Telfair's too young for anyone to know whether he's going to be more like Rasheed Wallace or more like Stephen Jackson.
Yes, stephen jackson with less talent seems like a better comparison.
I'd just as soon gamble on Jay Williams(if he were healthy) over sebastian "arroyo" telfair. Not in the mood for another underachieving pg who can't shoot all that consistently. in fact its like having lindsey hunter w/o the defense(and even lindsey's been shooting better than him lately).

Amir was arrested?
Glenn 04-26-2007, 09:21 AM No, but apparently he likes guns and I thought he could use a head's up.
Black Dynamite 04-26-2007, 09:23 AM just keep him out of that gangsta D-League.[smilie=blaha.gif] :mccosky:
darkobetterthanmelo 04-26-2007, 09:25 AM Yeah, the one key to next year's championship is more guns.
Zip Goshboots 04-26-2007, 09:57 AM The only advantage for Telfair going to Detroit is if (unless they already have) Michigan passes the law allowing people to carry guns. That should eliminate a few arrests for Telfair.
Uncle Mxy 04-26-2007, 01:05 PM Orlando is reportedly among the teams interested in him -- like they need another small PG.
Zip Goshboots 04-26-2007, 01:15 PM The New Guinea national basketball team needs a point guard.
Zekyl 05-01-2007, 01:25 PM The New Guinea national basketball team needs a point guard.
Sorry, they have standards.
Varsity 05-04-2007, 05:51 PM someone asked for Telfair to be a Piston and this somehow hasnt been swatted yet? lmao
Glenn 01-15-2009, 09:52 AM This seemed pretty un:cogent: at the time, but DrTre11 might turn out to be right again (as usual).
Uncle Mxy 01-15-2009, 05:24 PM Hunh?

Am I in the wrong dimension, or has Glenn's mind taken a detour.
This was sarcasm, right....?
DrRay11 01-15-2009, 10:03 PM He's shown flashes this year... but sersly no way
Uncle Mxy 01-15-2009, 10:08 PM He's shown flashes this year...
He needs to cool it with being nekkid under the trenchcoat, then.
No one wants to see a short-dicked point guard.
Zekyl 01-15-2009, 10:08 PM He's shown flashes this year... but sersly no way
Flashing his gun?
Timone 01-16-2009, 04:53 AM No offense, but if you don't like thugged out NBA players, it really says something about your style.

I'm just thinking that this seemed outrageous at the time since he looked like he was about to flame out of the league, but he's pulled it together pretty well in Minny.
Uncle Mxy 01-16-2009, 06:27 AM He's shooting 33% with a 2:1 assist:turnover ratio.
What's not to love?
<laughs>

Glenn 06-12-2017, 01:31 PM Many mocked the good Doc, but he nailed this one again! Keep throwing stones at the castle, suckas!

Timone 06-12-2017, 05:10 PM Was hoping this would be about him joining the coaching staff or something.
