Coach of the Year:
MVP:
Rookie of the Year:
Most improved player:
Defensive player of the year:
Executive of the year:
If you want to, you can list both who you think will win and who you think deserves to win (if they are different).
Glenn 04-23-2007, 01:49 PM Sixth man: Barbosa (already leaked)
Coach of the Year: Sam Mitchell (deserving & will win, only other possible would be Avery)
MVP: Nash is my boy, but Dirk was crowned in the media about a month ago
Rookie of the Year: I like Bargnani, I've seen him the most, Rudy Gay is nice too, but I think the buzz is too strong on Brandon Roy
Most improved player: Al Jefferson is my choice, Luke Walton might steal it from him
Defensive player of the year: I'd go with Battier, but Camby is deserving too
Executive of the year: Bryan Colangelo
Didn't we already do this? And none of these are "post season" awards. Isn't there only one of those (Finals MVP)?
Glenn 04-23-2007, 02:23 PM Why you gotta be a bitch?
You know what I mean by "postseason".
Did we do this before the season? Maybe. I'd say this is a bit different since that was just wild ass guessing and this is actually based on something.
Get off my jock, Fingerbang.
Maybe we need to go to the 'dome.
edit: the g'damn NBA even considers these to be "postseason awards" http://www.nba.com/history/awards/20022003.html
You don't wanna get Fingerbanged.
Zip Goshboots 04-23-2007, 07:03 PM I have a good feeling Barbosa will wint the 6th man award.
It's not because of his basketball prowess, it's because he's a "soap picker upper" when the team is on the road.
Glenn 04-24-2007, 10:51 AM Coach of the year will be announced today, but apparently, nobody cares.
Its just not a fun when you are picking out of a pool of 2-3 guys for each award.
Where's the old thread? Its fun to see who blindly guessed right.

I can't see where we did a preseason prediction thread this year, but here's the NBA GMs predictions for 06-07: http://wtfdetroit.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7342&highlight=predictions
Full GM predictions: http://www.nba.com/preview2006/gmsurvey_predictions.html
Here's some evidence for why Sam Mitchell won Coach of the Year:
Which team will win the Atlantic Division?
New Jersey Nets 92.9%
Boston Celtics 3.6%
Philadelphia 76ers 3.6%
WTFchris 04-24-2007, 11:41 AM can't remember if we did predictions, i think we did. I do know I had NJ winning that division. I did have Orlando as the 8th seed...where is Pharoah anyway?
Glenn 04-24-2007, 11:44 AM We did Who are your playoff teams? (http://wtfdetroit.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7381), but I can't find any individual player predictions.
WTFchris 04-24-2007, 11:49 AM I had 13 of the playoff teams right, not too bad. Clippers missed by a game. I think the bucks would have made it if healthy too.
My prediction is about to come true. Darko has us right where he wants us. Glenn is gonna have a TERRIBLE summer.
Glenn 04-25-2007, 03:24 PM Nowitzki edges Nash for MVP in GM survey
ESPN.com news services
If it were up to the NBA's general managers, Dirk Nowitzki would be the league's most valuable player.
In a survey conducted by NBA.com, the Dallas Mavericks forward edged out two-time defending MVP Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns.
A panel of media members vote on the actual MVP award and the NBA's other season-ending awards.
According to the results of NBA.com's survey, Nowitzki received 17 first-place votes and 8 second-place votes for a total of 109 points. Nash finished second with 82 points and Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers finished third with 21 points. Five points were awarded for each first-place vote, three for second place and one for third place.
Nowitzki averaged 24.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game as the Mavericks finished with a league-best 67-15 record.
The league's general managers also weighed in on the NBA's other player and coaching awards, picking Brandon Roy of the Portland Trail Blazers as rookie of the year over the Toronto Raptors' Andrea Bargnani and the Minnesota Timberwolves' Randy Foye.
The general managers selected Marcus Camby of the Denver Nuggets as defensive player of the year, Leandro Barbosa of the Suns as the league's best sixth man, Kevin Martin of the Sacramento Kings as most improved player and Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo as executive of the year.
But the general manager's picks have so far not matched up with the actual award-winners. The general managers chose Avery Johnson of the Dallas Mavericks as coach of the year, but Raptors coach Sam Mitchell won the actual award.
Uncle Mxy 04-25-2007, 05:24 PM It's a crime that RC Buford hasn't won executive of the year.
Zip Goshboots 04-25-2007, 06:24 PM I'm guessing coach of the year didn't go to Rick Carlisle.
Zip Goshboots 04-25-2007, 06:26 PM Headline: Nowitzki edges Nash for MVP in GM survey
I guess now that Toyota has passed GM as the leading car maker, GM is trying to find new work.
Maybe they can renew those old "Pepsi Vs Coke" taste tests.

And I'm actually not embarrassed by mine.
Glenn 04-26-2007, 03:00 PM Ellis edges Martin, wins most improved award
ESPN.com news services
In the closest race in the award's history, Golden State Warriors guard Monta Ellis was named the recipient of the 2006-07 NBA Most Improved Player Award.
Ellis (352 points) edged Sacramento Kings guard Kevin Martin (349 points) for the award, given to the player who has made a dramatic improvement from the previous season or seasons.
Ellis averaged 16.5 points and 4.1 assists on the year, significantly improving on his 2005-06 season in which he averaged 6.8 points and 1.6 assists. His total scoring increase (9.7ppg) was the highest of anyone in the NBA during the period.
Ellis started 53 of the 77 appearances he made for the Warriors and reached double-figures in scoring 68 times, including 24 games of 20 or more points.
Selected by the Warriors in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft, Ellis' scoring average is second only to Hornets guard Chris Paul among members of the class.
The award is selected by a panel of 129 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada.
p.s. nice find defrocked, although I kind of wish you hadn't found it
Glenn 04-26-2007, 03:15 PM Mussleman for COY.
Also, I forgot that Hollinger predicted that the Pistons were going to win 20 fewer games this year than last (that would be 44).
Glenn 04-26-2007, 03:20 PM Sorry to keep bumping this but this link is killing me.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/preview2006/news/story?page=Predictions0607/awards
Legler actually had Dujuan Wagner for Most Improved Player, lol.
Jon Barry was the only one to pick Dirk for MVP.
Mashburn picked Carlisle for coach of the year, none of them picked the Mitchell, and only two picked Barbosa for 6th man while none picked Manu (who finished #2).
Nice.
Hermy 04-26-2007, 03:56 PM Boy, its too bad Ellis skipped college, where he could have learned the skills needed to be a great NBA player. What a waste.
Glenn 04-27-2007, 01:03 PM It's leaking out that Camby has won the DPOY.
Uncle Mxy 04-27-2007, 01:38 PM It's leaking out that Camby has won the DPOY.
http://www.nba.com/news/camby_defensiveplayer_070427.html
Tayshaun got a few 2nd and 3rd place votes, too. I get the feeling that no Piston will get 2nd team All-D, though.
defrocked 04-27-2007, 02:07 PM And who voted Camby for DPOY? I forget.
