The "might" in the phrase "Leandro Barbosa might be the fastest basketball player in the league" should never be uttered again. I know there are a lot of human cheetahs out there, from Tony Parker to T.J. Ford, but no one moves like Barbosa. He makes even the fastest players look slow, and has learned to pick his spots better. The more comfortable he grows with his game and the Suns' system, the more dangerous he'll be. Sources tell me Barbosa is expected to be named the league's top sixth man on Monday afternoon -- I voted for him -- but his best days remain in front of him.
Barbosa deserves the award, he's a total stud.
I wonder where Dice finished?
micknugget 04-23-2007, 10:55 AM I'm not sure that Barbosa deserves the award just because he started in 18 games. That's almost 1/4 of their games. At what point do you no longer really consider a guy the 6th man??
If the starts are do to injury then I don't see a problem. Barbosa is definately used as a 6th man.
Glenn 04-23-2007, 10:58 AM I think the only requirement is that you don't start more than 50% of the games that you play in, which seems like it should be changed.
Uncle Mxy 04-23-2007, 12:18 PM He plays like Lindsey Hunter as far as speed, D, and PG skills, except he can make his shots. In the 63 games that Barbosa was a backup, he averaged nearly 18 ppg (on ~49% shooting, ~43% 3P) in 31 mpg. He's who I was wanted to trade Delfino and Arroyo for last year.
DrRay11 04-23-2007, 12:21 PM I was calling for us to draft Barbosa instead of Delfino that draft. Delfino's still pretty good, but I think I like Barbosa more.
Glenn 04-23-2007, 12:22 PM lol, I was doing pretend Barbosa trades for the Pistons back at RGM several years ago too.
I had no idea that he'd be this good, of course.
Uncle Mxy 04-23-2007, 01:03 PM I was concerned about Delfino's heart and injury history. I'm still a little concerned about the latter -- Delfiino gives me a Bob Sura vibe I can't shake.

Barbosa Named Sixth Man Of The Year
23rd April, 2007 - 2:16 pm
Press Release
Leandro Barbosa of the Phoenix Suns has been named the winner of the 2006-07 NBA Sixth Man Award, honoring the league’s top player in a reserve role, the NBA announced today.
Barbosa received 578 out of a possible 635 points, including 101 of a possible 127 first-place votes, from a panel of 127 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs finished second with 269 points and Jerry Stackhouse of the Dallas Mavericks placed third with 210 points.
The fourth year guard from Brazil becomes the fourth Suns player to win NBA Sixth Man honors, joining Eddie Johnson (1988-89), Danny Manning (1997-98) and Rodney Rogers (1999-00). Since the award’s inception in 1982-83, the Boston Celtics are the only other franchise to have had a winner on even three separate occasions – Kevin McHale (1983-84 and 1984-85) and Bill Walton (1985-86).
I just wonder how much Dice gets mentioned. He got off to a slow start, but without him where are our Pistons right now? I think the Suns would be relatively better off withough Barbosa than the Pistons would be without Dice.
b-diddy 04-24-2007, 12:21 AM back in my days in brazil playing pickup b-ball for mexican pesos, i used to always makesure to pick barbosa if i was fortunate enough to have the top pick.

You've either been drinking heavily or reading too many Zip Goshboots posts.
Instead of bed time stories, my mother would tell me about the time she visited Brazil in her youth. Just before I'd fall asleep every night, she'd say "And that's when Margarita would tell me that he 2 year old son Barbosa was going to be the greatest draft pick in history. If you are ever a fan of the NBA, dear child, you root for your team to pick Barbosa."
b-diddy 04-24-2007, 02:58 PM yea, anyone who's seen his dad pick coffee beens in the last 30 years knew the kid was going to be a special basketballer. its actually why his familly, close friends, and i call him "comedor dos feijões", which is portuguese for "eater of beans". of course, in brazil, everything is understood to be in reference to coffee, unless otherwise stated, as in (coffee) beans.
