How is it that the Tigers make scrubs look like Cy Youngs (Towers) and studs look like career minor leaguers (Grienke)?

After peeking at the Tigers' batting averages, I'm slightly more comfortable with our current record seeing that everyone is batting well below par outside of Pudge, Granderson, and Polanco.

Compared to some of the guys we lost to this year, he is.

Greinke had stud potnetial at one point. His stuff was better than Bonderman. In 2004, at the age of 20, he won 8 games for the pathetic Royals with a 3.97 ERA. The next season got to his head and losing wore on him quickly. He considered leaving the game altogether but instead chose to go to Double A and play with kids his own age. In his first two starts this season, with a renewed love for the game, he pitched 13 innings against Blue Jays and Red Sox, only allowing 2 earned runs while striking out 12. The kid has talent. Yeah, stud is way premature, but it was a label people were very willing to project on him a few years ago.

Anyhow, I love the offensive breakout. What can you say about Gary Sheffield? 3 more walks tonight. Even when his swing isn't working he's getting on base, running up pitch counts and keeping innings alive. He scores 3 runs tonight with only one hit. That's good stuff. Once he gets the timing right with his swing, he'll get his OBP up over .400. It's beautiful.

Nice late comeback win. Ledezma was a bit shaky tonight, but got it right in time and they managed the victory. He's 3-0, the Tigers are tied for the most wins in the majors, and Jones has 7 saves. I like it!

No series thread was made so I'll put it in here: Vasquez BLOWS. Why even start a guy that's been proven to suck in the minors? I know it's just one game out of 162, but I don't think they wanted to win this one.

What they hell happened to Minor? He's good for ONE start.

Vasquez has been our best pitcher in Toledo. Miner, with the way he has been pitching this year (5.57 ERA), wasn't an option.

Hopefully that was at least a good learning experience for him and maybe something to build on. With all the relief pitching woes we are having it never hurts to have another arm to call up later if this does benifit him.
