Related to the Amir Johnson topics.

Would Amir be putting these numbers up at a major college program?

I voted that the NBDL is superior just because many of the players were already stars in college and were good enough to be drafted. Most of them have or had the potential to become NBA players whereas you can't say that for most NCAA guys. With that being said, I think that Amir would be putting up great numbers in college hoops and would have been a top 10 pick if he were in this years draft.

However, I think the coaching is at a much inferior level in the NBDL. Players will improve much more in college based on that alone. That's why it should be more adventageous to stay in college than go to the NBDL.

Average NBDL player>Average college player. By quite a bit.

College Superstar>NBDL MVP. By quite a bit.

yea. i'd much rather see amir in the big dance than ???

i think its a developmental league in name only. i doubt amir is developing anything that will help him in the team game.

I have to agreed with diddy. He's thriving in the NBDL on his athleticism alone. In college he would have been working on developing his inside game or something of that nature, and also maturing as a person.

I agree as well, but keep in mind not all college players develop their game when they are that gifted. Look at Rodney White. Sometimes when you are too good nobody tries to change you. Depends on the coach. At least we have the Pistons watching over him in the NBDL.

I think that some of you are also ignoring the fact that the Pistons think highly of him not only from what he did in high school or the NBDL but also in what they saw in him during practice when he was going against the Pistons players. I think that says a ton about this guy being a pretty good player in his own right.

Mateen must be besides himself.

look at bassy telfair. probably as good a talent as you'll find. and he's pretty much regarded as a terrible basketall player. if he went to c-ball for 1 or 2 years, he'd be a future all star. now he looks like a euro allstar.

just my words of caution about amir.

NCAA plays defense. Mateen put up NBDL numbers he could never dream of in college.

Awful. I can say that if Torbert had gone directly to the NBA and practiced with pros he would be in the HOF, but that would be silly.

There is a reason everyone scoffed at POR when they took him so high, he doesn't have a pro body and doesn't know how to run a team.

ok, and you dont think he could have developed his bodey and his game in college? dont you think thats what happens to most hsers?

i guess your right, its just speculation, but theres no doubt in my mind that had telfair went and stayed in school, he'd be 10x the basketball player right now.

You develop your body MUCH more in the pros, working with professional trainers all day long as a job, and despite that he's still tiny. A couple years in college and he'd be behind where he is now physically and way behind financially as he may not have had a shot at a first round pick once scouts had a better look at his limitations. Gotta applaud the guy for coming out, it was a great move.

Bass was never going to be a star in the NBA at his size and with his lack of a jumper, that's why it was so funn y that they drafted him that high and over jameer nelson at that.
