Game 73: Detroit Pistons vs. Miami Heat
TV: ABC
Radio: WDFN 1130 AM - The Fan
Sunday, April 1, 2007
The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills, MI
Probable Starters | Game Notes | Injury Report | Tix
The skinny: Miami, expected to struggle to qualify for the playoffs after losing Dwyane Wade to a shoulder injury in February, instead has played its best basketball of the season since losing him. Pat Riley has refocused the team around defense and making Shaquille O’Neal the focal point of the offense. Jason Williams has shaken off the debilitating effects of knee problems and has been providing the Heat with efficient floor leadership. Mid-season acquisition Eddie Jones and Udonis Haslem are superb complementary players. Miami comes in to the game at 39-33 and the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference, but the Heat could wind up anywhere from third to sixth in playoff seeding.
What to watch: Check out Rip Hamilton – if he’s there. It’s probably not a bad thing that he’s missed a few games, as long as the flu symptoms and mild concussion he suffered have no debilitating effects. When other key Pistons were out of the lineup, Hamilton ran himself to the point of exhaustion and accumulated assorted bumps and bruises that threatened his effectiveness. But the Pistons need him to be back in peak form when the playoffs arrive, and it would be nice if that meant he came back for this game against the team most likely to present the biggest roadblock to the Pistons’ return to the NBA Finals.
Slow down this sweaty monster? not likely. Slow his pink jersey brigade down? easy task if we stick to it.
