Very nice, though I'm not as sold on Oden as others. In addition, I'm still convinced he's really 36, which will be revealed at his first NBA physical.

And where's Arron Afflalo in all of this? Sure, he's had a poor Tourney so far, but he's a natural leader and amazing defender.

If you guys notice anything that needs to be considered for the next update, feel free to post it here.

For example, about 30 seconds after this mock posted, Julian Wright announced he was staying in school.

We'll update this fairly frequently.

It's good Wright stays in school, he didnt look anything special vs Southern Illinois...other than that, really nice first mock!

How do you have Thabeet and Gray going in the second round. Every mock I've seen has Thabeet going in the late lotto and Gray going in early/mid first round.

Hermy
03-24-2007, 02:44 PM
Thabeet would simply stay in school without a lottery guarentee. Same for Chase.

Glenn
03-24-2007, 02:53 PM
Opinions on Thabeet are all over the place, you're right that nbadraft.net has him at #10, but Draft Express has him at #36 and everybody's favorite Chad Ford has him at #33. But as was stated in the mock intro, none of those rankings lists/orders take team needs into consideration, our list does. We've actually got him as the sixth ranked C, which is much higher than most of the others.

After I read your post, I just checked and on those same lists, Gray is slotting in at the end of the first round 24-25 range (although Ford has him at #43), but again not based on the needs of the draft order.

Things will change a bunch after each of those key dates that we mentioned, especially as players make their intentions known. And Hermy's right, as some of these guys find out that they are going to go lower than they would like, they'll pull out, which will elevate others.

Thanks for checking it out and sharing your comments.

Is Denny really allowed to be both a USC and a UCLA fan?

UxKa
03-24-2007, 09:46 PM
Good job guys. I think if Oden is smart he will stay in school for at least one more year, but considering what the general public thinks he will do it's understood that he will be in the draft and of course in the mock.

edit: If Law IV falls to us I will, well, I dunno but Ill do something.

Is Denny really allowed to be both a USC and a UCLA fan?

In the tourney, I root for Pac10, and against anything SEC unless it helps my bracket.

I've ALWAYS hated THE Ohio State University. Some rich asshole should create a town called Theohio somewhere in Montana or South Dakota, place a State U there, and sue any alumni faggot muthafucka who belches out THE Ohio State University during the line-up call off of a televised football game, claiming infringement.

Locally, I root for USC Football and UCLA basketball. Personally, I'm from CSUN, home of the Rising Mel (Gibson's temper).

Don't ask me why I'm like this... I just am.

Conley is staying at OSU, and Lawson is leaning towards staying.

Glenn
03-26-2007, 02:04 PM
We'll see if Conley is singing the same tune after his team is eliminated and when scouts start telling him that he'll be the first PG drafted.

Conley is smart to say he's coming back while there are still games to be played.

That said, we're leaving guys in place on the mocks until they formally announce otherwise, and even then, they still change their minds sometimes.

This is a just a guide for now, but thanks for the updates.

I see us going after McRobets late in the first round, BTW. Assuming we get a PG early.

Another PF? Can he play center? As much as I like Law, I wouldn't mind us getting Hawes if he is available with Orlando's pick (doubt he will be).

i think your underestimating al horford. i think he goes 4th. also, glenn's boi corey brewer is helping himself alot by nailing 3 3's in a row. him being on fire for the final four would probably help his stock more than anything.

no chance in hell joe drafts a noodle armed pansy like mcroberts.

Nice to see GSW pulling ahead of Orlando a little. That should give us a better chance at a PG there.

WTFchris

they are in now though. but the clippers need a PG too, so I'm not sure that helps.

I think Glen Davis of LSU and Alando Tucker of Wisconsin could go in the late first round.

btw, Bill Walker...is he the teammate of OJ Mayo? I haven't been paying attention to him at all so i don't know whats up with him.

I'm still debating whether the Hawks go with Yi or Wright at #3.

darkobetterthanmelo
05-26-2007, 11:56 AM
Someones been drinking that Chad Ford Koolaid? I fell victim to that with Pavel and Darko. The Hawks have Josh smith, Marvin Williams, Sheldon Williams, Josh Childress, Zaza Pachulia, I know they are dumb, but they aren't dumb enough to take ANOTHER forward from UNC over a stud PG. They take Conley.

Glenn
05-29-2007, 10:47 AM
If the Pistons end up with Hawes and Pruitt, I think most fans will be okay with that.

Wilfredo Ledezma
06-09-2007, 10:55 AM
I don't suspect Spencer Hawes will fall down that far...plus I think he is terribly overrated, but I have heard the Pistons will look for a big, so if he does indeed fall that far down...Joe Dumars would probably get him...

Spencer Hawes reminds me of Robert Swift

i think it goes oden (por); durant (sea); conley (atl); horford (mem); b wright (bos); brewer (min); green (cha); chinese dude (chi); hawes (sac).

incidentally, anyone see noah's recent quote:“I think mock drafts are a complete joke,” Noah said Saturday after working out for the team. “I mean, who makes mock drafts? I have no idea who makes them. I heard a couple of guys who make the mock drafts are like kids in the basement and stuff like that.”

Here's my first 10- The rest is at my blog here: http://www.werollhard.net/

http://wtfdetroit.com/miscpics/nba_logos/por.gif1. Greg Oden - Center. Ohio State

Dar. Screw the “New NBA”, no one wins titles without a franchise big man. Here’s one, no way anyone passes on him or trades this pick. Go buy your hats bandwagoners, this team is gonna roll the league for years.
________________________________________
http://wtfdetroit.com/miscpics/nba_logos/sea.gif 2. Kevin Durant - Small Forward. Texas

Yeah, the kid is weak and can’t bench press, but he grabbed a shit-load of rebounds and dunks with his balls. We’ll leave the off arm shoves to LeBron, and just let KD use his wing span, hot shot, and athleticism to win ROY supposing Rick doesn’t bench him for someone more fundamental defensively.
________________________________________
http://wtfdetroit.com/miscpics/nba_logos/atl.gif 3. Mike Conley Jr - Point Guard. Ohio State

ATL has repeatedly fucked up the draft and will do it again, this time using the 3rd pick on a need, and a reach. The kid is lighting fast while still having a strong body, he protects the ball well, and can defer or take a game over. It’s hard to project young PGs, but Conley looks like he has the physical abilities to fit into any system, though it may take 3 years the Hawks don’t have.
________________________________________
http://wtfdetroit.com/miscpics/nba_logos/mem.gif 4. Al Horford - Power Forward. Florida

Dude is the all-around tough guy that Pau needs next to him. Won’t be the biggest star in the draft, but think of an Antonio Davis type who isn’t afraid to mix it up and protect the rim and his team mates. Not a bad thing.
________________________________________
http://wtfdetroit.com/miscpics/nba_logos/bos.gif 5. Corey Brewer - Small Forward. Florida

They have so much youth here I’m not really sure where to go. The best players left are PFs, and the Celts lick Jefferson’s balls, so I guess we’ll give them a guy who can compliment whoever else they end up keeping from the bunch of chumps Ainge can’t stop tripping over.
.
________________________________________

http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/284/wtfdetroitbuckslogodx2.gif Joakim Noah - Power Forward. North Carolina

He can kinda play center and it looks like the Villanueva/Bogut may not be the way to a title. Jo can run and jump all over MIL., maybe they’ll even have a reason to care about the mediocre team the Bucks will be tossing out on the court for the next decade.

________________________________________

http://wtfdetroit.com/miscpics/nba_logos/min.gif 7 Brandan Wright - Power Forward. North Carolina

Big,long scorer to take some of the weight off of KG’s shoulders. He actually kinda reminds me of KG without the whole “I’d kill my mom to win” attitude, or frankly any attitude at all. Even when he puts up numbers you don’t notice him on the court. If Brewer is still here, I don’t think they can pass.
________________________________________
http://wtfdetroit.com/miscpics/nba_logos/cha.gif 8. Yi Jianlian - Power Forward. Ferner

Ok, Im not gonna be like the dicks at other sites and make shit up about some dude ain’t no one who isn’t paid by an NBA team or a China Man has seen. They say he dunks like mad and they say he’s Chinese, so I see him as more of a marketing piece than a player. In steps the marketing master MJ, buying himself a world of photo ops into a big expanding economy. See, isn’t that better than me breaking down his game like I know a damn thing?
________________________________________
http://wtfdetroit.com/miscpics/nba_logos/chi.gif 9. Spencer Hawes - Center, Washington, White

Big, project center, meet the team looking for a big, project center. That said, big, white lottery guys are poison so I wouldn’t touch this dude with a stick. Yeah, I’m racist, but I ain’t stupid.
________________________________________
http://wtfdetroit.com/miscpics/nba_logos/sac.gif 10. Jeff Green - Small Forward, Georgetown

Damn, I’m shocked Artest wasn’t the answer here. How friggin desperate were the Maloofs to pick up a certified nut and the most selfish player in the league then turn the keys over to him? Green actually reminds me of Artest with his strength, but he’s also a good passer and unselfish. This would make him the only team guy on this c1. Memphis Grizzlies - Greg Oden, Ohio St., 7'0" Center, Freshman
Memphis uses the #1 pick to build a solid front tandem with Oden and Gasol.

WTFchris

you might want to include the team name next to the pick. some are obvious, but others are not.

is brandon williams really slipping to 10?? lets slide up and grab him! i dont care that his offensive game is nil outside of arm's length of the basket, that dude had a minor role for his COLLEGE team, and that we have a terrible track record of developing talent. dude has tons of potential, and could definitly make up for the darko debacle.

shoot for the stars, joe!

edit: this wasnt tongue in cheek at all. honestly, think of how you'll feel when stern reads, "the detroit pistons select..." if that ended with brandon williams, we'd all be giddy as hell.

WTFchris
06-28-2007, 04:46 PM
It's hard to predict. With the Clippers and Hawks, Kings and Bulls all wanting a big man or PG in the 9-14 range, you are going to have 1 or 2 swingmen really drop. Will it be Julian Wright, Nick Young, Brewer, Jeff Green, Thornton or Thaddeus Young?

With it being our 3rd need really, would we trade the pick if there is someone really wanted there by another team?

b-diddy
06-28-2007, 04:52 PM
i'd much rather gamble on b. williams than take just about any swing guy in the draft... that i've seen (admittidly, i honestly havent seen too many of those guys).

i like what williams can do, though. isnt afraid to get his nose dirty and has big mitts (always a good sign). if he went back to college i suspect he'd be the best player in the ncaa's and a lock to go #1 in 08. so if he's gettable i say get him.
