View Full Version : The Little Dance: The Official WTFDetroit 2007 Men's/Women's NIT discussion thread Glenn 03-11-2007, 07:12 PM I'm so pissed at the selection committee, they just gift wrapped the NIT for Syracuse. Zip Goshboots 03-12-2007, 12:01 AM Glenn, I'm not so sure Syracuse has achieved that lofty distinction of having won BOTH the NCAA and the NIT, so maybe this is a way to crown the great coaching career of Jim "Durante" Boeheim. I mean, it's one thing to win the NCAA, but if you can win the NIT in addition, then you have really set yourself apart as one of the Great Ones. Glenn 03-12-2007, 05:05 AM Look at the Cuse's schedule, especially early in the season, I'm actually really happy that they didn't reward them for that horseshit sched. Glenn 03-12-2007, 12:43 PM Anybody else think we should create a super-sweet NIT subforum? FillyCheezeSteak 03-12-2007, 12:48 PM Glenn, would this NIT subforum include tons of awesome cliches such as........... "All the extra practice time is good for the young guys" and "I'd rather play 3 or 4 NIT games than lose 1 NCAA game." Glenn 03-12-2007, 01:20 PM Glenn, would this NIT subforum include tons of awesome cliches such as........... "All the extra practice time is good for the young guys" and "I'd rather play 3 or 4 NIT games than lose 1 NCAA game." Actually, that's a great idea for a subforum of the subforum. Baker 03-12-2007, 02:12 PM Good God! Can we please not talk about the freaking NIT (sarcasm or not) in the Big Dance forum. This is the greatest freaking week in basketball and I want to talk big games not garbage NIT bball. Can't wait for Thursday! FillyCheezeSteak 03-12-2007, 03:19 PM Why would you say this is the biggest week of the year? You know this whole thing goes all the way until April. Do you stop watching after one week or do the games lose luster after the first week? Anyways, back to the NIT talk for now........... J/K Glenn 03-13-2007, 06:49 PM And we're underway! Zip Goshboots 03-13-2007, 09:08 PM Let me be the first to report that Michigan and Utah State played, and when I woke up, Michigan had already won the game! GO BLUE! It's GREAT to be...A Michigan Wolverine! Hooray! Darth Thanatos 03-13-2007, 10:34 PM And that's why mid-majors should get little respect. Zip Goshboots 03-13-2007, 11:01 PM The ESPN Fluff/Hack announcing the UM-Utah State game offered up this gem near the end of today's debacle (ANY NIT game is a "debacle"): "And with 22 wins, you wonder why Tommy Amaker is on the hot seat". Again, I ask: What the HELL does it take to get a job with ESPN? A driver's license? MoTown 03-14-2007, 08:15 AM Good God! Can we please not talk about the freaking NIT (sarcasm or not) in the Big Dance forum. This is the greatest freaking week in basketball and I want to talk big games not garbage NIT bball. Can't wait for Thursday! Sounds like someone's jealous they didn't get selected into the NIT. You ever think maybe Michigan just turned down their NCAA Tourney bid? Baker 03-14-2007, 08:44 AM What's next? The Official Motor City Bowl Thread? Glenn 03-14-2007, 10:26 AM What's next? The Official Motor City Bowl Thread? Well, not "next" but when the time comes... I didn't sticky this thread out of respect for you Tre, although I really wanted to. This is definitely worthy of discussion for those that are interested. These are real games, with real teams, real officials, real fans, real arenas and the best part is all the extra practice time is good for the young guys. I'd rather play 3 or 4 NIT games than lose 1 NCAA game. that's for you, Filly Glenn 03-14-2007, 10:36 AM As tempting as it is to do a stickied Michigan-Florida State OGT, let's just keep that discussion in this thread, fellas. WTFchris 03-14-2007, 10:37 AM i have no problem with the NIT wagers (i enjoy them because they get you warmed up for the real tournament). one thread is probably enough though. Moodini31 03-14-2007, 10:54 AM Ya gotta love more replies in the NIT thread than the NCAA thread. I just wanted to add another one to the tally. WTFchris 03-14-2007, 11:39 AM well, considering it hasn't really started yet, that doesn't surprise me. also, half the posts in here are about whether we should be discussing it at all. not sure those count. Glenn 03-14-2007, 11:45 AM Pulling for the NIT is kind of like pulling for the fat kid in little league or for a small business to triumph over a large corporation. It's a cinderella story, really. Baker 03-14-2007, 12:55 PM LOL @ Glenn and his posts I love random Michigan fans talking about the value of the NIT each year. That extra practice time sure is helping the program isn't it?! BTW Moodini, the reason there are more here is because Glenn has posted 37 times in this same thread about the NIT and its value. WTFchris 03-14-2007, 01:03 PM Pulling for the NIT is kind of like pulling for the fat kid in little league or for a small business to triumph over a large corporation. It's a cinderella story, really. Acutally, that would be pulling for Niagra. The NIT is more like pulling for JV sports over Varsity sports. Glenn 03-14-2007, 01:05 PM If I were a lesser man, I'd give up. Don't worry though, this thread will be legendary. Keep bringing more glory to the NIT, guys. This journey doesn't end until we reach the mecca of basketball, Madison Square Garden. Hermy 03-14-2007, 01:06 PM Trouble is FLA St. has Thornton, who is a dirty whore of a man. Glenn 03-15-2007, 08:46 AM I'm really disappointed that there weren't any new posts in this thread overnight. Oh well, we'll make up for it today. Big, big game tonight. Zip Goshboots 03-15-2007, 08:58 AM One thing about Michigan Vs Florida St that worries me: Florida State usually has athletes that are much better than Michigan, and Bowden is a much better coach than Carr, even if Bowden is 153 years old. Besides, Lloyd is still fretting over having to give a press conference yesterday. Any time Lloyd has to talk to someone, he goes into a severe depression. I'm thinking that without Arrington and Butler tonight, it could be as bad as the last time UM played Florida State, and they thumped "Big Blue" 51-31. But if Hart can get some early rushing yards, and....Huh? What? A basketball game?the NIT? AGAIN? Oh fuck. Nevermind. Glenn 03-15-2007, 09:04 AM I thought you were joking about the Women's NIT the other day, I saw this morning that it actually exists!! I'm pissed that I didn't get my bracket in. Zip Goshboots 03-15-2007, 09:09 AM Well, if you had, you might have had a chance to win. I got mine in, and I believe that this year the Women's NIT is so hot that my entry was the 14th to get in, which is a record. The NIT sure is gaining steam, Glenn, and you are certainly one of the people that those of us who love this tournament will one day thank for it's revival. Glenn 03-15-2007, 04:20 PM Less than 3 hours until gametime. I need to get home and get my "Michigan NIT watchin'" uniform on. http://www.intmale.com/HanoverAssets/intmale/product_images/i808zzi.jpg Zip Goshboots 03-15-2007, 04:28 PM Glenn: Sweet fashion. Here's my uniform: http://www.luxury-underwear.com/img/top-offer-front.jpg theMUHMEshow 03-15-2007, 04:28 PM Glenn...i am not going to lie. I just do not feel right posting here. lol theMUHMEshow 03-15-2007, 04:28 PM Less than 3 hours until gametime. I need to get home and get my "Michigan NIT watchin'" uniform on. http://www.intmale.com/HanoverAssets/intmale/product_images/i808zzi.jpg LMAO!!!!! that is the best post ever theMUHMEshow 03-15-2007, 04:29 PM at least michigan hoop fans have something to watch in the post season. Something that MSU football fans wouldnt know anything about? Quick question...when was the last TD MSU scored in a bowl game? Go look it up...it is quite funny. Zip Goshboots 03-15-2007, 04:32 PM Glenn: This is what I'm wearing when I watch Michigan State Football: http://www.sattlers.org/mickey/culture/clothing/kilts/images/2005-02-charles-in-kilt-1.jpg Glenn 03-15-2007, 04:34 PM You'd look pretty good in the kilt too, try that next time instead. Does that other uniform you posted come in a mock turtleneck version? Zip Goshboots 03-15-2007, 04:42 PM I wouldn't be caught dead in a kilt. Zip Goshboots 03-15-2007, 04:46 PM This one is for work: http://www.wonderfullywacky.com/beerbeltguy.jpg JickBoy34 03-15-2007, 05:30 PM You crazy fucks...I'm crackin up here...NIT 4 LIFE!!! Zip Goshboots 03-15-2007, 05:46 PM Glad to have you in the fold, Jick. Today: WTF Detroit. Tomorrow: THE WORLD!! NIT RULEZ! Darth Thanatos 03-15-2007, 05:51 PM I hope we win the NIT so Brent Petway can write more raps. Zip Goshboots 03-15-2007, 11:37 PM My wife took a picture of me while I was watching the UM - Florida State NIT matchup: http://www.911buycostume.com/Pages/headgear/PONYEXPRESS2/PONYHANGMAN2-2.jpg Glenn 03-16-2007, 04:07 AM ESPN may have killed the NIT for me (and many others, I'm sure). Putting the games on ESPNU (which I don't have) whilst airing poker on The Mothership and figure skating on The Deuce? I'm having a moment of weakness here, I need to find some resolve to continue my support for this thing. Zip Goshboots 03-16-2007, 08:30 AM You continue your fight in SPITE of ESPN continuing to hasten the decline of civilization by televising poker playing. Glenn, you are bigger then this. You are better than this. You MUST continue to be an inspiration for the tens of fans of the NIT that are out there, going into the world, against incredible odds, and boredom, and fighting the good fight. The NIT Nation NEEDS you, Glenn. Glenn 03-16-2007, 08:35 AM Okay, I'll keep going. It seems like a meaningful and worthwhile exercise, last night just knocked the wind out of my sails a bit. At least I still have my guy Sidney "Paul Revere" Lowe and the Wolfpack. I can still hang my hat on that. Who do you guys have in your NIT Final Four? Here's what I had when I filled out my bracket: NC State Florida St Syracuse Georgia NC State over Syracuse Glenn 03-16-2007, 09:49 AM http://www.womensnit.com/07-Post-Bracket.jpg WTFchris 03-16-2007, 10:35 AM Gotta love any tournament that has Bucknell and Hartford matched up in it. Wow, must see TV. Glenn 03-18-2007, 06:35 AM My Wolfpack are still alive. If they could have scored another point and covered the spread, I'd be downright giddy. Zip Goshboots 03-18-2007, 08:46 AM Glenn: I completely disagree with your final four. You had these teams: NC State Florida ST Syracuse Georgia MY Final Four looks like this: Florida St Syracuse NC State Georgia Well see who ends up being right. Glenn 03-19-2007, 09:34 AM I see you bastards are being tricky and laying low by keeping your NIT Final Four selections secret until the last minute. Those of you that are waiting might have to produce a notarized copy of the actual paper bracket to prove you aren't "cooking the books". Glenn 03-19-2007, 04:38 PM Action resumes tonight! I was going to do OGTs for the 4 games, but I'm trying to exercise some restraint. Zip Goshboots 03-19-2007, 05:57 PM How about some alpaca action on what you are going to wear while watching the NIT? Glenn 03-19-2007, 06:56 PM See my avatar Zip Goshboots 03-20-2007, 12:00 AM I hope you've got the bright orange rubber ball nose, the flaming purple wig, and the size 45 bubble shoes to go with it. Hermy 03-20-2007, 07:07 PM If you are bored, tune in and catch Thorton on espn. Glenn 03-20-2007, 07:11 PM Lost one of my Final Four last night (Georgia), hope I don't lose my champ tonight. Playing these games on the road is weird. Hermy 03-20-2007, 07:12 PM If you are bored, tune in and catch Thorton on espn. Or don't. Two quick shit fouls. Glenn 03-21-2007, 07:58 AM Well, the boys just couldn't overcome that tough West Virginia crowd last night. God bless Sidney Lowe for at least covering the spread!! HipDigIt 03-21-2007, 09:37 AM How about some alpaca action on what you are going to wear while watching the NIT? You got a few Alpacas you can loan me 'til Friday. I seem to have "misplaced" mine? Zip Goshboots 03-21-2007, 01:27 PM Yeah, sure. Go right ahead. I'm sure we'll be awash in alpaca shit now that you've REALLY figured out how to bet with them. Glenn 03-27-2007, 10:37 AM Set your DVRs, the Final Four starts TONIGHT! Glenn 03-28-2007, 10:24 AM Great ending to both the NIT games last night, especially the West Virginia win. MoTown 03-28-2007, 10:57 AM That, my friends, is what the NIT is all about. More drama than the NCAA so far. No wonder Michigan tries to get to the NIT every year. Glenn 03-20-2014, 09:11 AM My money's on LB and the SMU fighting SMUs. Glenn 03-13-2016, 09:14 PM https://twitter.com/sinow/status/709182529425817600 Glenn 03-15-2018, 01:15 PM If it still exists, I'm so hype for this year's NIT, you guys. |
