Kings Waive Guard Jason Hart

Written for the web by Jason Kobely, Internet News Producer

In a season marked by an unsuccessful trade attempt and extended time on the bench, the Sacramento Kings waived backup point guard Jason Hart Thursday.

“We wish Jason the best and want to thank him for his contributions and professionalism," said Kings President Geoff Petrie in a written statement.

The season was one of disappointment for Hart. After opening the year with hopes of an expanded role under new coach Eric Musselman, Hart was relegated to spot duty only.

In just 13 games this season, Hart averaged 3.3 points, 1.2 rebounds, 0.8 assists in less than eight minutes per game. Hart averaged more than 12 minutes a game with the Kings last season.

In January, Hart's agent Bill Neff told KHTK radio that a potential trade that would have sent Hart to Detroit was nixed by Sacramento over contract issues.

I could see it happening for sure.

I guess the question is, will he clear waivers?

Miami has room to claim him, don't they?*

His salary is $1.68m

*Miami is $10.5m over the cap, but they haven't used their MLE yet.

Can't use the MLE on waivers.

I think I'd rather give the time to Blalock to develop. I don't see Hart as a difference maker for us by any means, so we might as well improve what we have.

Okay, I'm a dork then.

It's sort of a tough call. I assume this is the scenario where Flip Murray gets waived.

It was nice of Sacto to waive him so he can catch on with a playoff team. If we waive Flip to sign Hart, he (Flip) won't be playoff eligible if someone signs him, right?

IIRC, a player has to be off his previous teams' roster by March 1. Which also means we probably won't be seeing any other significant buyouts, it's too late.

According to Storytellers salary numbers, the only teams with room to claim Hart would be Atlanta, Charlotte & Toronto.

I had to look it up too Glenn, you can use Traded Player and Disabled Player Exceptions but no others.

Yeah, yesterday was the last day for playoff roster eligibility.

hart is awful.

hart is awful.

Would you take him over Murray, though?

I assume that was the original trade (referred to in the article in the first post in this thread). I think I remember that Joe offered Flip for Hart, but Petrie balked because he was afraid that Flip might exercise his option for next year.

If Murray is never going to see the floor for us again, I'd rather have Hart. Actually, I might rather have Hart than Murray in any case, and since something better isn't going to come along (unless it's somebody out of retirement or the D-league. Mateen? lol) then Hart might be the best we can do now.

I know of an entire message board that's hoping Mateen makes the NBA again so Dumar's draft record looks better.

I looked for some Jason Hart highlights on YouTube.

Came up empty.

I still think Blalock needs some more run to see what we have there too.

Blalock will be fine as a backup guard. He seems like he'll be able to stay in front of his man and move the offense. He's no great offensive force, but if he can make an open three every so often and not blow a layup, he'll do fine. Mostly he has to distribute the ball and not be a total knob if his shot doesn't fall (Flip Murray's weakness), and that's something he can do.

He'll be great at never getting playing time even when we are desperate for a backup. Not that its his fault, because it isn't. Seriously.

There are several rumors floating around that Hart will sign with the Clippers. I'm too lazy to find a link but it makes perfect sense. He wouldn't have to move across the country and he'd get plenty of PT with Livingston out and Cassel playing hurt. The only disadvantage is that the Clippers suck.

Hart says he will sign with the Clippers unless he is claimed by another team.

First of all, Hart in a Pistons uni would have been like porn for bigdt. He's been on that jock for years.

Second, had all this happened a week ago this would be my prediction: We cut Flip and grab Hart. Hart plays like dung, while Miami picks up Flip who suddenly discovers the game of basketball and burns us repeatedly in the playoffs. Glad it's playing out differently - though I think it's all a nonfactor at this point.
