View Full Version : TRADE: Dallas sends Anthony Johnson to ATL for 2nd round pick Glenn 02-22-2007, 12:20 PM And so it begins... Per :chad: RegicideGreg 02-22-2007, 12:22 PM WOW HUGE DEAL WTFchris 02-22-2007, 12:30 PM Not to be mistaken with Avery Johnson. DrRay11 02-22-2007, 12:35 PM To me, this makes no sense for Atlanta. Oh well, I don't root for them, so I don't care. Glenn 02-22-2007, 12:41 PM To me, this makes no sense for Atlanta. Oh well, I don't root for them, so I don't care. I'm with you. Dallas is taking a small risk giving up a solid backup PG with playoff experience, but an Atlanta 2nd round pick is basically the same as a late 1st (it's going to be at the top of the 2nd, assuming that it's their pick and not one that they acquired from another team), plus, the 2nd round deal is not guaranteed like the late 1st would be. Having pick #32 >>>> having pick #30, for example. WTFchris 02-22-2007, 12:43 PM JS is going to beat you up for posting this when he has a trade tracker. I suppose we need a discussion thread too, maybe we should link to these threads from the tracker thread. EDIT- JS already did that. nice work! Glenn 02-22-2007, 12:43 PM JS is going to beat you up for posting this when he has a trade tracker. This is a discussion thread, that is a reference thread. Or something like that. alsosorryJS DrRay11 02-22-2007, 12:44 PM I'm with you. My thoughts exactly, just didn't think I needed to clarify. Thanks. JS 02-22-2007, 12:51 PM The trade tracker is just like a directory, if people want to just see the trades they can if they want to talk about it there will be a link. If they want to start a thread they can and I will link to the thread. It is just a tool. This deal is like moving dirt from one corner to another, hell even Chad Ford made fun of the deal. For the Mavs all it does is stop them from paying AJ twice given the lux tax, and gives them a TE. The pick will likely be moved in a secondary deal today or on the draft day. Glenn 02-22-2007, 12:51 PM My thoughts exactly, just didn't think I needed to clarify. Thanks. LOL, I was just breaking it down a bit, for the kids. Daviticus 2.39 02-22-2007, 01:06 PM Why didn't we trade Minny's 2nd rounder for AJ? Not that I like the guy, but any backup point guard would be nice... It seems like people are giving away some talent like the Melvin Ely trade and now this, so where is Joe at? Glenn 02-22-2007, 01:11 PM From ESPN.com's own Nick Silva, our cap guru: "The Hawks-Mavs trade saved Dallas 2.64M in tax for this year and 5.72M next year (2.86M salary + 2.86M tax) and they got the Hawks pick in the second round which is 37 right now and they gained a 2.64M trade exception." Pretty much what JS was saying. WTFchris 02-22-2007, 01:12 PM Ford had a good point. Atlanta could have done better and got Udrich for the 2nd rounder. theMUHMEshow 02-22-2007, 01:22 PM To me, this makes no sense for Atlanta. Oh well, I don't root for them, so I don't care. well...they figured they were going to draft another six-five - six-seven prospect...so it makes perfect sense. Zekyl 02-22-2007, 05:51 PM We couldn't have just traded a second rounder for him. We are already over the cap and he makes two and a half million. We couldn't have just given them something else for him either, because they were trying to cut cap. No way we could have gotten him. |
