Al Franken enters Minn. Senate race
By PATRICK CONDON, Associated Press Writer
MINNEAPOLIS - Comedian Al Franken said Wednesday he will run for the Senate in 2008, challenging Republican incumbent Norm Coleman.
Franken's announcement came on the final day of his radio show on Air America. The decision by the former "Saturday Night Live" performer instantly makes him a serious contender and brings national attention to the race.
"Minnesotans have a right to be skeptical about whether I'm ready for this challenge, and to wonder how seriously I would take the responsibility that I'm asking you to give me," Franken said in a video on his Web site.
"I want you to know: Nothing means more to me than making government work better for the working families of this state, and over the next 20 months, I look forward to proving to you that I take these issues seriously," Franken said.
Franken's name is well-known and he is likely to be well-funded, but he's expected to be challenged by several other Democrats, including wealthy trial attorney Mike Ciresi.

I don't like haters on either side.

Aren't you hating?
No disrespect.
Tahoe 02-14-2007, 07:50 PM I'm 'disliking' lol.
I expect them to be productive and work together. Hating is not productive in DC. Work together for the good of the country. Some actually do.
Hermy 02-14-2007, 08:17 PM I hated Ronald Reagan too Tahoe.

Tahoe 02-14-2007, 08:41 PM and lincoln. he was a bitch. talk about a divider.
Was he?
Hermy 02-14-2007, 08:43 PM Right! see, he could have let the south keep HALF their slaves. Finally, someone else who understands.
Tahoe 02-14-2007, 08:47 PM Finally, someone else who understands.
And that would be?
Uncle Mxy 02-14-2007, 08:48 PM Franken's radio show bores me. If that was the flagship show for Air America, I can see where it's having troubles. He's whiny and not "wheee -- lookee at the blowing shit emitting from my ass" crazy enough to make it interesting.
Hermy 02-14-2007, 08:55 PM And that would be?
Oh, beautiful you sir. You, I, and Nevil Chaimberlain know that we need to work together, find a common good. Not operate with extreme motives that might offend.
Tahoe 02-14-2007, 09:00 PM I only saw AA or the Al Franken show on AA for about 3 minutes, but if what I read was true, it was nothing more than a Rush Limbaugh of the left. IMO it could have had legs if it stuck to concrete liberal views and hired left of center peeps. I think they went too far left and too much hate.

Are you feeling ok? Did you get into Anna Nicoles fridge or something?
Hermy 02-14-2007, 09:08 PM No, Pistons are losing so I'm pissy.
Zip Goshboots 02-15-2007, 02:53 PM The reason Air America faded is that liberals don't need people with empty heads to fill with rhetoric that they can go out and regurgitate to their buddies and become targets for spit ball practice.
Tahoe 02-15-2007, 07:36 PM Is that what you're rolling with?
Zip Goshboots 02-16-2007, 01:03 AM You got Rush Limbaugh. 'nuff said.
No room to ask others how they roll.
Tahoe 02-16-2007, 12:00 PM You got Rush Limbaugh.

Zip Goshboots 02-16-2007, 03:11 PM Yes. That's how I roll. Rush on the right. Cut. Print. Done.
Nutbags.

I don't like the haters on both sides. But I hope that bastard fails...lol
DennyMcLain 02-18-2007, 02:06 AM If he ever tries for the White House, he can get Ben Stein to run as VP.
Then we could have a bumper sticker that reads "Vote for Franken Stein"
Uncle Mxy 02-18-2007, 09:38 AM Ben Stein is pretty much Al Franken's polar opposite, politically. That would be a Frankenstein kind of ticket in more ways than one.
I hope Coleman gets his ass whupped. He's a pandering nutjob, who probably only got elected because his opponent died a week before the election. But, I'm not sure if Al Franken's the right guy to kick this guy to the curb. Franken has to find issues that resonate in particular with Minnesotans, and he has to get some real support from the prominent Democrats he's raised money for. As you can see from the recent Michigan races with Nancy Skinner and Tony Trupiano, liberal talk show hosts don't do so well.

Well I see logic in what I'm saying, you see a contradiction. Whatever...
I don't want haters in up in DC fighting each other and getting nothing done. Hope he goes down.

you seeing logic in your statement is not an accomplishment Tahoe. In fact i would think you would to type it twice w/o pause. Doesn't mean it's sound logic. Either way i'm just messing is all. [smilie=heatsmiley2:
Tahoe 02-18-2007, 08:56 PM We must remember the unibomber saw logic in his actions too.

Glenn 02-19-2007, 09:10 AM Thanks for the video Mxy, he sounds really solid.
I wonder if he's got higher aspirations in 8 to 12 years?
If he can negotiate Flip to the Gophers, dude has the race locked down.
Glenn 07-15-2008, 10:56 AM Jesse Ventura Not Running For Senate
By Josh Kraushaar
Jul 14, 2008
(The Politico) The former, colorful Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura announced that he will not be running for the Senate as an independent on CNN's “Larry King Live,” deciding to stay out of an already-entertaining Senate campaign between Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) and comedian Al Franken.
“I am telling you know I will not run at this moment…As of now at this minute I’m not running,,” said Ventura, citing family concerns. “You have to want to get into this fray and your family has to want to get into it as well… this is some of the dilemma I go through, do I want to put my family on the firing line again…I’ve looked hard at what it takes and I feel very strongly and maybe I’m not religious enough. I don’t go to church and I don’t have a reverend.”
Ventura left open the possibility if that God convinces him otherwise in the next day, he could reconsider – though that prospect seems unlikely. The filing deadline to qualify for the Minnesota ballot is tomorrow.
Ventura first suggested hints of a political comeback in a National Public Radio interview last Friday. He then told NPR correspondent David Welna that he would run for the Senate largely because of Coleman’s support for the Iraq war – and his own opposition to it.
He just came out with his book, “Don’t Start the Revolution Without Me,” the story of his tenure as Minnesota’s governor and a narrative of his own anti-establishment political beliefs.
Not sure why that struck me as funny, but it did.

Just wanted to type that, sorry.
Hermy 07-15-2008, 11:04 AM One survey has him leading by a couple points (Franken), another has him losing by 12.
Uncle Mxy 07-22-2008, 11:02 PM Franken's got his work cut out for him.
He really needs to make a clean break with his unfunny comedian persona.

I could never understand how Franken made a career in comedy. I never thought he was funny, never heard rumor of anyone else thinking he was funny.

I read his books, and those are hilarious. He's by no means the waka-waka goofy corny-ass comic if that's what you're expecting. His sense of humor is much more dry. His pranks are absolutely great.
