Dwayne Wade a Leader ? (http://www.blogmaverick.com/2007/02/09/dwayne-wade-a-leader/)

Feb 9th 2007 12:53PM
I hope Dwayne Wade was misquoted in an article today in the Miami Herald. I know the Herald has issues with accuracy and they are still probably looking for the boat I dont own in Miam (http://www.blogmaverick.com/2006/06/14/damn-officials/)i, but according to the Herald (http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/16656501.htm), and i have a hard time thinking even the Herald could get this quote wrong, Wade said the following:

DIG AT DIRK

After the Heat practiced Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena, Wade was asked if he believes players are ultimately remembered for what they do at the end of games.

Wade, who usually is selective and subtle with his criticisms of opposing players, took the opportunity to take a jab at Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki, who has failed to give the Heat credit for beating the Mavericks in the Finals last season.

''At the end of the day,'' Wade said, ``you're remembered for what you did at the end. . . . I think that's the reason -- Dirk says they gave us the championship last year, but he's the reason they lost the championship, because he wasn't the leader that he's supposed to be in the closing moments. That's because of great defense by us, but also he wasn't assertive enough as a leader's supposed to be.''
Say what ? Is this the DWade of some of the lamest , boring commercials known to man ? Commercials that are singlehandedly responsible for selling more commercial skipping Tivos than anything else on TV ?

Dwayne I don't blame you for not looking at tapes of the finals. You obviously didn't. You would have seen your unbelievable skills and some other unbelievable elements that if I could discuss honestly here I would get fined for.
You are right, endings are remembered. And the ending of 3 of the games of the Finals will be remembered alongside Game 6 of the King vs Lakers Conf Finals a few years ago.

I guess you have earned the right to criticize Dirk with an obvious display of your own leadership skills.

I know Shaq appreciates your leadership as well. He called out your team a few weeks ago saying it was "embarassing (http://nba.aolsportsblog.com/2007/01/27/when-it-comes-to-effort-shaq-cant-cast-the-first-stone/)'. Great leadership DWade. Your coach sat players for being fat. I guess you couldnt lead them away from the buffet.

You are an amazing player Dwayne. I love watching you shoot free throws. What you know about Dirk's leadership skills is non existent. You don't have a clue. Your ability to evaluate leadership skills....well you obviously have an overinflated value of your own. Did you take business classes at Marquette ?

Now we know why Charles won't put you in his 5.

And Im pissed for one more reason. Im going to have to miss our next game against the Heat on Feb 22. A previous engagement. I guess its just a missed opportunity to bring a local business class to the game and try to let them interview you about your leadership skills.

I think Cuban is my favorite owner in sports. He is funny as hell. Maybe we can convince him to wear a 'Fuck a Wade' t-shirt to a game.

Maybe we can convince him to buy the pistons.

DWade was talking about his "quiet" leadership just a short while ago, too...

did he really write that? wow.

i normally hate cuban (although i do agree with SOME of his gripes about the league) but this is the best thing i've ever seen.

i would have included a few more things specifically, about how he is a diver and a good actress. but otherwise, he's right on the money!

wade is an extremely talented player whose skills i love- i was a huge proponent of his coming out of college and thought he was an unselfish version of kobe bryant. but his style of diving and playing the role of drama queen makes me want to hate him....

he was unselfish, until the hype came and his head exploded. same thing thats happened to Lebron. his assists are down and overall he doesnt play nearly as much team basketball as he did in his rookie year. Went from a magic johnson/grant hill type to a scorer type.
he really had the potential to be more all around than he is and is a big disappointment to me as is Wade.

Yeah, I've noticed that in LeBron as well. He came into the league making phenomenal passes and creating for his teammates, but I haven't seen any highlight-reel passes from James this year like I did so much in his first season or two. Oh well though, better for the Pistons, I suppose.

Oh, yeah. Cuban kicks ass for saying this. LOL @ "I love watching you shoot free throws."

i just like that somebody involved with the league finally came out and said what fans have been pissed off about for ages. because i'm sick and tired of every nba announcer, 'analyst' and other 'experts' overhyping these kids and making them into superheros for playing a pussified version of basketball.

the unfortunate truth is that most people dont care. only hardcore basketball fans catch this. casual ones vote for Bush and believe nothing is wrong with Stern's NBA. :yingyang:

True... All they see is Wade averaging his 20something ppg and want to have sex with him and buy his stuff

Who actually watches games anyway - they get all they need from sportscentre top 10

The hardcore are slowly being conditioned to expect wimp ball.

The days of being a man, getting clubbed and making a shot known as legitimate and1s will be forgotten with time.

Cuban catches a lot of shit for being a hands on owner, but the guy has revolutionized the Mavs. From the stadium experience to the coaching staff, the entire franchise has his fingerprints all over it, and well, they are damn good.

Wade is a bitch, but his whole generation are being brought into the league as celebrities. Lebron, Wade et al are all more concerned with their offcourt earnings than their integrity in the game. The dark side of capitalism rears its ugly head.

cuban is an amateur with a ton of money. if he werent such a whiney bitch, his mavs never would have collapsed in the finals.

and the talk about the refs is WAY overblown. wade is probably the best player in the nba right now. not cuz the refs love him, but because hes just that good.

im not saying its not there. it was VERY frustrating going against it in the ECF last year, and i was rooting like hell for the mavs. it was pretty bad.

but wade is hardly the first person to get some ref love. and i dont think what he gets is out of line with what other stars get today, or in the past.

Then you never saw Jordan or Magic Play. You find a play where Jordan wasnt even touched on a foul. He was touched with questionable fouls called on people not being allowed to guard him hard or body him like like we did for so long.. But never anything like this.

Agreed.

Johnson/Bird/whomever - got some benifit of the doubt.
Jordan - got the benifit of the doubt.
Wade - got refs sucking his cock on TV.

Amen. Remember, this age of guards getting a lot of love is relatively new. Here's the league leaders in FT attempts during 1986, a higher scoring era than ours -- all forwards and centers:

Adrian Dantley 796
Moses Malone 784
Dominique Wilkins 705
Kiki Vandeweghe 602
Alex English 593
Sidney Moncrief 580

1996 -- forwards and centers excepting for his Mighty Airness:

David Robinson 823
Alonzo Mourning 712
Karl Malone 708
Shawn Kemp 664
Michael Jordan 657
Grant Hill 646

And here's the list from 2006 -- a lotta guards:

Allen Iverson 829
Kobe Bryant 819
LeBron James 814
Paul Pierce 812
Dwyane Wade 803
Gilbert Arenas 799

I'm a Mark Cuban fan also. The piece on him on Real Sports the other day was great. Man, talk about someone with the "Midas Touch".
But, the NBA is all about Star Power. I'm sure Dirk Nowitzki gets the benefit of his share of calls. If you are in the league, you gotta accept that.
Is Dwanye Wade protected? Consider this: Dirk Nowitzki already has 4 fouls for the next time Dallas plays at Miami.

And D-Wade is already 7-8 from the free throw line.
