View Full Version : Juan Dixon....
BIG BEN'S FRO 02-06-2007, 09:29 PM I was just reading that beat writer article you guys posted, and think that Dixon would be a phenomenal addition for us. Yes he is a tweener, which is what makes him at least available. I think he would actually be an addition that would give Rip some rest. Another guard with a great jumper and mid range game. I think he would certainly fulfil the role that Ronald Murray poorly fit for us, and he is a far better defender than Murray. I am on the fence if he is even a better fit for us than Mo Pete.
Black Dynamite 02-06-2007, 09:40 PM He's not as good as Mo pete. He's a great spot up jump shooter. But outside of that alot of question marks. I'm not mad if we give up next to nothing for him. But he isnt worth any big trade. Maybe him a flip murray straight up.
BIG BEN'S FRO 02-06-2007, 09:46 PM In that article, a comparable offer would be Blalock and Murray. There is no way that is a bad deal. There are going to be a ton of good players available with both our picks, and there isn't any reason to lose one of those picks for a bench player.
b-diddy 02-06-2007, 09:46 PM bbf, welcome back.
yea, jaun would work. i think the price tag might be a little high though.
so an addition q:
webber probably leaves for la in the offseason (not sure about that if we win a ring). how much of our future are you willing to sacrifice in order to get a ring this year?
me: i'd give up one of orl pick, our pick, or maxiell plus maybe amir if i thought we could get that missing piece. for example, i would trade our pick and our TE for jaun.
micknugget 02-06-2007, 09:53 PM I like Dixon but he isn't worth a first.
Black Dynamite 02-06-2007, 09:59 PM dixon isnt a for sure missing piece by any stretch of the imagination. so giving up anything further than flip murray is a lil' tough to do imo.
BIG BEN'S FRO 02-06-2007, 11:18 PM b-diddy, thanks. I have been so busy at work I have had to go on a sabbatical for awhile.
If this is was our last chance, then I would say move the pick. But Joe D has built this team on being competitive now AND in the future, as he says all the time. I think we have at least one more year in our window even without Webber. Shaq will only be a year older after all, and we will still have Sheed and possibly Dice.
Gutz, so true, Juan Dixon doesn't give us the championship or even make us a favorite over the Western Conference teams. Can't give up a pick for that.
b-diddy, assuming we don't pay the tax, I think the most we can offer Webber is the MLE. And that assumes that Bill Davidson eats the cap.
Also wondering what you guys thought about Delfino and Nazr for Desmond Mason (expiring 8 mill deal). Or for Marc Jackson (expiring) and Rasual Butler (long term contract ends before Nazr's does and is 3 mill).
micknugget 02-07-2007, 08:05 AM I have liked Desmond Mason for a while. He would be a nice addition but I have this fear that as soon as we trade Delfino, he is going to break out. I wouldn't mind the trade but i'm just not sure about trading Delfino for a rental off of the bench who we'll doubtfully re-sign. Then again, that's going to be a problem with most expiring deals we obtain.
Cross 02-07-2007, 09:26 AM I think Desmond and Delfino play similarily. Both slash and both can shoot the long ball if given the chance. Desmond gets alot more turnovers although he gets more PT.
I'm sure if Delfino was given the same situation was Mason, Delfino could do better.
The difference? Delfino won't ask for a big contract when its time to resign them while Desmond will.
I always thought Pharoah was a dixon fan?
trade our first for Dixon? no thanks
RegicideGreg 02-07-2007, 10:12 AM Desmond Mason can not and will not shoot the long ball
Cross 02-07-2007, 10:19 AM Desmond Mason can not and will not shoot the long ball
fuck. maybei was thinking about Mason with rasual Butler's range

Q. What about reports linking the Pistons to Portland's Juan Dixon?
A. I think that's the type of player the Pistons would be interested in, but not him specifically. The Pistons never discussed him, internally or externally, until the report surfaced. It was subsequent to that that the Blazers made a call to Dumars.
The Pistons like Dixon as a player, but they aren't making any deal for him.
luniz 02-07-2007, 04:00 PM I could see trading our pick, but not the Orlando pick. And Delfino for an expiring contract? That sounds horrible to me. It's not that easy to get good players, even if you have cap room.
Pharaoh 02-08-2007, 09:07 AM I have been a fan of "acquiring" Dixon for a long time and for very good reason.
He is relatively young (or was)
He can be had for a reasonable price
The guy can fucking explode for huge nights
On the nights his shot is off and he's obviously not getting it done you bench him and go with your other "more consistent" option. But on nights when he's going strong you have yourself a cheap gunner who can get you over the line.
What is he worth via trade? Not much. Davis is all I'd offer.
Is that a good move? Who knows? Who cares? It ain't gonna happen.
It's nice to see Joe likes that kind of player. I bet he likes Gerald Wallace too, another one of my "boys"
Pity he's not available.
BIG BEN'S FRO 02-08-2007, 11:32 PM Roger Mason Jr. might still be.
JK.
b-diddy 02-09-2007, 12:20 AM i also like desmond. he got the all nba citizenship award one year. might not mean alot to some, but i think he'd be good in our lockerroom. when he was traded to waukee i thought he'd explode into an allstar.. didnt happen, but he can play.
my one concern with acquring someone, really anyone, is that we have to hope flip not only incorporates them into the team, but then also uses them properly. he has not shown that ability for guys outside the big 6. (and really 5). so i guess i should have thought about that before i said i'd give our first for dixon.

Sorry to bump this old thread but had to give props to BBF for the really good memory.
