I've been needing a new MP3 player for a while, and I was thinking about one of the new Creative Visions but then I came across the Archos models. Anyone have any experience with these new, more advanced "Personal Media Players"? Own one, seen one? I've been thinking about this one but I have no real first hand knowledge:

I read "Personal Media Player" and I think "pimp".
And no experience here. Any handheld device that isn't a cell phone just doesn't exist for me, for a number of reasons.

I don't drive far to work (or otherwise drive large distances very often), and don't have a job that's condusive to their use. Heck, most of the time that I want to "get away", what I want to get away from -is- technology. I'm a Luddite at heart. And yeah, that was funny. :)

I have a Creative Zen Micro. It only plays Mp3's, not video or anything. It performs great, is a better buy than Ipods, and the software is a zillion times better than Itunes (most of my friends have Ipods and I've used them a lot). The only draw back to the Creative is that there are not a lot of accesorries compared to the ipod. I've never used the Vision, but I suspect you'll find the same thing. Better quality for the unit, but less add ons than the apple equivilent. I like mine better than Ipods because I don't care abou docking stations, etc...but some people care more about the add ons than the unit itself. Cnet usually has detailed reviews on that stuff.

I bought 2 ipods in the period of 3 years and the both broke with limited use. I know everyone is on the bandwagon but I'm off of it.

Buy.com has 30 GB Zunes for 99.99. I'm pretty sure it's the late model but still a good deal.

(Edit: just went back and it's "Temporarily sold out". Said that yesterday though and then this morning they had it again so maybe worth checking tommorrow AM for.)
