The Washington Wizards (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=was) All-Star figures he could score "84 or 85" points if he got a chance to play Duke and coach Mike Krzyzewski, who cut Arenas from the U.S. national team last summer.


Arenas has promised this season to take out his frustrations about the national team on Krzyzewski's Team USA assistants, Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni and Portland coach Nate McMillan.


Arenas scored 54 points against the Suns last month and has said his next 50-point game will come against the Trail Blazers on Feb. 11, prompting D'Antoni to say: "I can't wait to see what he does against Duke. He's gonna kill Duke."


"He'd like to see what I'm going to do against Duke," Arenas wrote in a posting this week on his nba.com blog. "I thought it was funny because if I have the chance to go back to college, I'll give up one NBA season to play against Duke.


"One college game that's five fouls, right? ... 40-minute game at Duke, they got soft rims I'd probably score 84 or 85. I wouldn't pass the ball. I wouldn't even think about passing it. It would be like a NBA Live or an NBA 2K7 game, you just shoot with one person," he wrote.

all gilbert needs needs is the ncaa's to start a week earlier and the nba to start a week later. he could join the globetrotters and play some non-conferrence b-ball and this really could happen. it really could be one of the biggest games of all time too. of course, the schedules conflict and im pretty sure duke would never agree to it, but i can wish.

Without a doubt. You take a mediocre NCAA team and add an NBA All-Star starter and that team turns into a dominant NCAA team.

I agree. He said he'd give up a year of NBA just to tourch Duke, and that he'd never pass the ball. Well, how do you feel if you are his teammate in Washington? That his personal vendettas are more important than his team. I can't stand players like that. If he wants to talk about being snubbed, fine. But clearly his ego is all that matters to him. A real NBA player would say he wants to take his team to the finals and prove his doubters wrong, not talk about how many points he is going to drop on someone.

I think he wears #0 for some similar "vendetta" reasoning too. Can't remember the specifics.

The difference is that Sheed doesn't say he's going to go get a tech. Arenas said he wouldn't pass at all. And not passing the whole game is not equivilent to getting a tech.
