View Full Version : Why is Wade treated so well?

As soon as he came into the league, the NBA has made him literally untouchable. Last night, he had 23 fts. I don't understand what is so unique about this guy that he gets every single call. He's a reason that I get turned off by the sport and its not his fault. Its the NBA's fault.

he has shaq and plays in miami. movie stars go to the games much like LA, meaning that its a great place to win a bandwagon title. let him play for charlotte with no shaq. different result.

I would take off my jersey and refuse to finish the game if that foul was called on me.

ehhh, I've seen things like this a lot with Pierce, Kobe, Shaq, Lebron, and the bunch. I can't blame it all on D-Wade.

I actually think that LeBron has a surprising amount of no-calls for his popularity. D-Wade, conversely, is ridiculous. Fuck a Stern.

It's not just the NBA that treats Wade like the second coming of Goober Grape (that fantastic combination of peanut butter AND jelly in the same jar!) Sports Illustrated named him Sportsman of the Year. That was bunk. NO regular season MVP, and with Shaq at his side Miami wins a title. Big fucking deal.
Tiger Woods wins two majors, and eight other tournaments, separates himself from the rest of the golf world, and Wade wins that award? What next, does Prince William want to mary him, and make him Queen of England?

I agree the way the NBA calls games he is in is a big turn off. I want to watch teams play basketball, not see D Wade walk up and down the court shooting free throws. The worst part is it's not his fault, he's not a bad guy and doesn't complain all the time. They just want to create superstars.

used to be the case. but now its free throws or tears. the nba and shaq have kinda killed his classiness.

Looked at boxscore. 24 Fts last night. One of the main reasons why I don't care much for NBA basketball anymore.

I can't watch the Heat or Spurs anymore because of Wade and Manu. I love watching the Mavs and Suns though because there aren't floppers. Just hard play and lots of offense.

Even the announcers were getting aggitated by the calls in favor of Wade. The started using the terms "weak call" and "should have been a no call." They were commenting on how he kept leaning into people instigating(sp?) the contact and that he shouldn't get the call for that.

They should start playing U Can't Touch This every time he gets fouled.

^ that would be awesome. You should send that request to the Pistons.

Here is my question, LeBron one of Wade's boys got frustrated with his antics and the growing sentiment around the NBA is becoming hatred towards Wade, does anyone foresee Wade getting hurt badly for his BS? maybe not one bad injury but a series of injuries from harder fouls.

I am not advocating violence but I think the feeling is that Wade should be punished if he is going to get ticky tac fouls. I think the force that people use to foul Wade is going to increase. I am not suggesting that anyone will go out of their way but I think fouls are going to start to count against him.

I also think Stern's trouble is only going to increase, it one thing for the Pistons or Cuban to start complaining but when the number of teams taking issue with piss poor officiating becomes the majority he can't keep a lid on the situation.

If you want further evidence that Wade is the NBA's Golden Child, for all the bitching, whining and complaining that the guy does, he's only got 4 technicals.

This from a blog entry (http://fullcourtpress.blogs.mlive.com/default.asp?item=518479) at mlive talking about an article at 82games.com breaking down foul shots to calculate statistical measure of "star treatment." The full article can be found here. (http://82games.com/fouldraw.htm)

This is a little old, but interesting enough to take a look at...

Let's face it, if you don't complain about the amount of phantom foul calls Dwyane Wade seems to draw you're probably either related to Wade or living in the greater Miami area.

Well, Piston fans, 82games.com has some bad news. Using a complex mathematical formula to calculate "star treatment" Wade finished third in the NBA behind, gulp, Chauncey Billups.

February 16, 82games.com: "Star Treatment" Ratings (Free Throws awarded versus expected FT awarded, omitting technicals and FT's via intentional foul)

1 Billups DET 1.55
2 Maggette LAC 1.53
3 Wade MIA 1.51
4 Pierce BOS 1.44
5 Iverson DEN 1.42

mean anyway? Sounds like a made up number to me. Maybe Chauncey picks up the most shooting and post penalty fouls? I dunno, funny stat.

They didn't actually post their formula:
http://www.82games.com/fouldraw.htm
so, I wasn't too inclined to think about it.

82games.com has gone a little downhill since one of the main guys went pro.

I agree with you. That's one of those "Hey, who's the new geek in the corner cubicle, and how come no one ever talks to him" kind of things.
People that come up with shit like that really frighten me. It's really unfortunate that one day they will control the world.

UxKa

OK I see the formula but I dont have agree with it.

Wade is still 4th in FTA for the season despite playing 14, 11, and 13 less games than the 1 2 3 guys.

Point is, regardless of stats, that he gets BS calls like pretty much nobody in the league gets. Some guys get phantom calls here and there, but he gets them a lot and has to be wheeled off for a shoulder injury. You know what would be funny? Seeing Wade play against the Bad Boys. Last one game? I think not.

If you read the whole article, they say that they think that too many intentional fouls from late in games are slipping in for Billups and clouding his numbers. They seem to basically agree with the general perception that Wade gets way too many calls.

I find the whole stat to be kinda off. Since when is Maggette a star?? I think that Billups has a knack for 1). getting his opponent up in the air and drawing the foul. 2). Shooting every tech and quite a few FT's at the end of the game.
