Rasheed coming off the bench again?

Rasheed coming off the bench again?

hmmm.....looks like he is coming off the bench.

what's going on? did Sheed volunteer himself off the bench, to give Maxiell some more confidence? was he late again? uh oh....

no they said that they like the look right now so they're sticking with it.

but if we're starting j-max he better play more than 18 friggin minutes tonight!

didn't Sheed pull something like that in Portland? volunteering himself to the bench to play Zach Randolph more? or did he play SF? i can't recall...

nice, quick first step by Maxiell to draw a foul on Okafor. Max nails both FTs

9-8 Pistons lead w/ 7:16 to go....

Sheed said after last night's game that he was going to ask Saunders to start Max and let him come off the bench to bring more consistency. It seems like a good idea to me, as long as Sheed gets his butt down on the block and shoots fewer threes.

Seems like a good move. Makes the bench instantly more effective.
Max will get down in the post which sheed wouldn't do, it's not like we lose much in defense, and what we do lose overall we gain back in hustle.

Make Sheed a heavy minute 6th man and we are more balanced. Sheed gets to find even more favorable exploits against bench players. The only time I would really want to see Sheed starting is when there is a PF matchup he is more suited to handle. Like JO, or Duncan.
We are bringing Sheed and Dale into the game, or Sheed and Dice. That's better than Max and Dale , or Max and Dice. And we get some Max and Sheed for good measure.

quite honestly i don't remember that. but if a guy is healthy (sheed is not really 100% now admitedly) i don't like someone who volunteers for the bench.

especially someone as talented as him. i want a guy to be hungry to play every minute of the game and a guy who is eager to go out and dominate.

but we all know sheed has never had that killer instinct unfortunately.

Matt
01-10-2007, 07:53 PM
Max with 3 rebounds already.....great energy from Max tonight. He just needs to pick his spots and play smart. Sheed off the bench is so crazy, it might just work.

we all know that's not Sheed's MO. if Sheed can come off the bench and dominate the other team's back up bigs (which he should), we might be on to something here. this gives Mad Max (http://wtfdetroit.com/index.php?page=mad_max_facts) a chance to show his stuff and let the team trust in him more in important games.

Sheed comes off the bench to "Sheeeeeeeeed" chants. Maxiell w/ 6 pts 4 rebs in the 1st quarter so far.

Black Dynamite
01-10-2007, 08:01 PM
sheed will get lazier i think. either way i see sheed vs flip to be the next battle for the year. then we'll trade sheed for rasho nesterovic and talk about how this will improve the team beacuse of rasho's abilities as an inside scorer. yada yada yada.:mccosky:

if it was Sheed's request to come off the bench, there shouldn't be a feud between him and FlipS.

Rip is a monster so far.

it was sheed's saying it in more of a "well maybe thats the thing to do since we won, i dont care either way" style but it was Flip's idea.

BubblesTheLion

Got to give Flip Saunders some big time credit for even considering pull this kind of move. We were all worried he wouldn't give Max a lot of minutes off the bench and Flip goes out and puts him in the starting lineup.

Another great idea. hopefully we'l bring rip off the bench to get a 14 game winning streak started. :)

Matt
01-10-2007, 08:40 PM
damn, we got our asses kicked that quarter.

that was a quarter where we really looked like we missed Chauncey. we were absolutely struggling to get a bucket.....chauncey would have calmly ran a few Rip curls to get some easy buckets.

01-10-2007, 08:46 PM
All you FlipS haters should be happy that he grew a pair and put 'Sheed on the bench 'til he earns it back. I don't think this is really 'Sheed's choice, personally. It sort of reminds me of how he said he didn't want an invite to Team USA when all the other guys in the starting 5 got one and he didn't. Sheed hates to be insulted, and rather than let it appear like Flip benched him, he's touting it as his idea. That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it.

a sucky performance by us, and again saunders with a HORRIBLE substitution pattern.

there's no way on earth we should be down 10 to charlotte on our home court.

but anyway, how do you like delfino's one-handed baseline throwdown on okafor!? play of the day!!!!

why he's only played 12 minutes so far is beyond me.

Black Dynamite
01-10-2007, 09:43 PM

Matt
01-10-2007, 09:45 PM
i hate these games.

i get excited watching a tight one and get pumped up....

.....then i remember we're playing the freakin' Bobcats.

anyways, great momentum swing, led by Delfino's aggressive play. that last FlipM three was nice, but i would have loved to see Rip swing it right to a streaking Delfino for another potential highlight. the crowd would have went ballistic.

too many 3's

Flip has a broke ass 3 ball shot. he shoots on a line with his hands. I don't even know why he jumps on his jumpshot his legs have nothing to do with it.

Btw. screw the fans that left this game early. It's not over and hasn't been over yet.

Matt
01-10-2007, 10:01 PM
Rip = leads the league in technical fouls at the worst possible moment.

Cross
01-10-2007, 10:03 PM
Why does Rip always get that tech late in the game?

metr0man
01-10-2007, 10:06 PM
well looks like Flip's team meeting speech wasn't so inspiring after all.

Matt
01-10-2007, 10:11 PM
we got obliterated by dribble penetration (what else is new?), plain and simple to me.

whether that's Flip Saunders' fault depends on your bias. you could say he needs to make adjustments on the pick and rolls during timeouts. but, that would absolve the players of blame, when Raymond Felton was blowing by our guards with ease all night long. also, how about some communication on pick/roll defense? "switch!" or "stay w/ your man!" that could have been helpful.

Matt
01-10-2007, 10:27 PM
this game was a prime example of how important Chauncey is to us, IMO. the offense had absolutely no direction. i don't think Flip Murray necessarily played a bad game....but he's not going to win us many games as the leader of the team.

i thik FlipM still has it in his head that he needs to score to be effective.

Higherwarrior
01-10-2007, 10:35 PM
in all fairness to rip, i don't think either tech was warranted. what did he do? he didn't say anything bad enough to warrant it. and he certainly was not demonstrative and showing the ref up. (cause heaven forbid you offend the ref!)

this is a clear cut example of a ref who was trying to flex his muscle and show he can't be questioned.

and even if you say rip was complaining too much- the SECOND tech was DEFINITELY not warranted. just when you thought they were being more sensible with regards to calling techs, they go and do this.

absolutely horrible officiating by whoever that dumb ref was. rip is on pace for some suspensions too at this rate with the techs....

anyway we played like crappola. delfino is one of the only ones out there who brought the intensity we needed. he's becoming a fine player very quickly.

and i agree- we took WAY too many wild 3's in the last 3 minutes or so. why were we playing so desperately and bombing 3's out there? no need for it. for as bad as we played, we very easily could have still won if we hadn't wasted posessions by chucking up unnecessary 3's.

if we had taken good 2 point attempts, even at the percentage we shot tonight, we could have won still.

we need billups back and we need a slap in the face for continuing to play down to our opponents. i give charlotte credit, but it's a joke that we lost to them AGAIN on our homecourt no less. :(

add Maxiell to that list. Okafor and May can be a handful in the paint and i think Maxiell held his own.

I know it's a favorable angle, but damn if that doesn't make his arms look as long as his legs.

I had some personal crap going on and couldn't watch the game, and I have to say I'm grateful for that.

Flip Murray cannot run an offense, period. How many times does he have to dribble the ball off his feet, jack up fade aways, etc for Saunders to see this? Unfortunately he is forced to play him until Billups is back.

I watched the first half but could not stomache any more of that crap after the 2nd quarter. We had rented a movie anyway that we had to watch and turn back in (which I am about to write a review about in the movie thread).

Black Dynamite

I agree chris. why not let delfino run it. he penetrates and dishes better than both our pg's. let flip play sg and be done. also it looks like delfino has no more lingering effects on his knees and is jumping as high as he did when he first got here.

They way Flip handles the point I'm convinced Delfino is a better ball handler, and passer. Whether or not he knows how to run an offense is another question, but clearly Flip doesn't know himself. I'd like to see Delfino running pick and rolls with Sheed and Dyess instead of Flip, because Delfino can actually drive to the basket.

Black Dynamite

I think he does know and his best games ever came last year when he ran PG for the youngsters in the final few games. He's atleast our 3rd best passer and is willing to give the ball up as a first option, shooting as a second option.

Either way Delfino is a bum and Mo Evans would've been owning right now. Seriously though I do think Nazr should be gone with Webber coming in. Let him get his precious minutes elsewhere. [smilie=peepwall.gi:
