View Full Version : 2007 College Football
Artermis 10-13-2007, 04:32 PM Hey Tre, at least UM is in a position to be big matter enough for UM to have a national commercial made of them.
MSU not much so.
If you tell me that you would rather be a nonentity in college football vs losing to APP State, well I think you would be lying.

I'd rather have a 5-2 football team with a new tough coach and arguably the best basketball and hockey program in the country than have a football team that is a giant disappointment and embarrassment this year followed by a joke of a basketball program. If you didn't admit that MSU's situation is far better, I think you'd be lying.
If you're keeping score, you're getting worked.

They have 86__ Football wins in 142 years including triumphs over the Lewis & Clark expedition ( U of Mum had the football), Dave Crockett and those 10 French Canucks (big but no speed), the Donner Party as they were making their way west to before the fun started for them, and Ann Arbor H.S. C'mon give it up. They are the elite of the elite...or...maybe the oldest of the old. I'm going with "B".
Artermis 10-14-2007, 09:05 AM I could argue that UM has the best hockey program along with MSU but that would be a lie on both our parts. One of the teams out east has the best hockey program.
UM has a great softball, baseball, wrestling, swimming, etc program.
But I digress since we are talking about football. Oh right, you are the only one who gets to keep things on topic.
I dont know how many times I have to say it but the loss to Appy State was horrible, but I wouldnt trade my football team for MSU or any other schools football program.
BTW I still think Chaminade beating Virginia with Ralph Sampson was a much bigger or US beating Russia (since you asked before for a sport with a bigger upset) or how about Douglas over Tyson? Anyone who has watched UM over the years really shouldnt be shocked that UM lost that game. They have been ripe for that type of game for years.
Baker 10-14-2007, 12:18 PM C'mon Art! You wouldn't trade your football program for USC's?
Artermis 10-14-2007, 12:53 PM Not at this time nope. If the NCAA every decides to go after USC....USC is going to be in a world of hurt over this whole Bush thing.
Would you take Florida's BBall program over MSU?
HipDigIt 10-14-2007, 01:26 PM oh and by the way they kick our ass all the time. I love this shit. Before you walk Petey C. down the plank tie him up with the 2nd rate parasite, Lloyd Lake, who lives 3 hours away from the USC campus who was trying to get an early foothold on the forthcoming Bush Bonanza.
From Rivals.
"There is a huge difference between the circumstances in both of those cases.
At USC, the arrangement was between someone outside of USC who wanted to guarantee a place on Bush's endorsement deal gravy train.
At umaa, Perry Watson and Steve Fisher were directly involved with Ed Martin. They sat him next to recruits. Fisher forged Watson's signature on ticket vouchers. that was all umaa being shady."
Good luck!! Do you suppose Lloyd knows what kind of house Alex Mitchell lives in up Reese way?? Like Carrol , he may have other distractions in his life.
Baker 10-14-2007, 02:52 PM Not at this time nope. If the NCAA every decides to go after USC....USC is going to be in a world of hurt over this whole Bush thing.
Would you take Florida's BBall program over MSU?
Cracks me up when a Michigan fan claims another school is cheating. I think after Ed Martin, you kindof waive the right to claim someone else is cheating when you have that hiccup in the past.
I wouldn't take Florida's for just a couple of reasons. MSU has a better history. MSU was ranked the #2 program over the last decade by ESPN above Florida. MSU has better recruits coming in over the next few years and they will be much better this year.
I don't know that Michigan can say they've been better over the last ten years than USC, don't know that they have a better history than USC (the whole #1 in wins is much due to being one of the first programs, before USC), and I don't know that UM has better recruits or is better than USC this year.
Baker 10-14-2007, 02:53 PM BTW, we own Florida in basketball. That helps my decision.
Zip Goshboots 10-14-2007, 04:28 PM You dont have to go back to the turn of the century when Hip Dig It was a wee lad to see that Michigan is one of the premier programs. Just go back forty years. 1967-present. The numbers add up to a forty year period that UM can stack up with anybody (even including bowl flops and missed NC opportunities, which we UM fans acknowledge).
As for playing the "trading places" game, let me axe the MSU fans this: Switch places. Put MSU in there instead of UM. Who would YOU trade places with? Be objective and try it.
UM and MSU are major conference schools recruiting in a state with very little difference making talent year in and out. They compete with Notre Dame and the Big 10 for Michigan talent. They have to go out into other teams' back yards to recruit. They have to convince kids from Florida, Texas, and California to come to Michigan. They have to go into Ohio and Pennsylvania to get talent. They compete against traditional powers in those regions as well as newbies for that talent.
In forty years, UM has had two shit seasons: a 6-6 year and a 7-5 year. No losing seasons, and only archaic Big Ten bowl rules pre 1976 prevent UM from having a 41 year bowl streak.
Every other major college program (I know Hip, Blah X3) has gone into le toilet for awhile, and Michigan has not.
It's a tough call to say who you'd switch with. Personally, I would rather switch places with Hawaii myself. If I could live there and root for the Rainbow Warriors, color me "ecstatic".
Baker 10-14-2007, 06:40 PM If I were to pick a program over Michigan Zip, I'd chose Ohio State, USC, maybe Miami just to name a few. I'd take a hard look at Miami and Florida. Good chance I might choose Texas or OU as well.
Why do you rip Michigan for not being where they should be in terms of winning big games, national championships, etc. under lloyd and then make the exact opposite argument later? I'll call you Mr. Hypo
Zip Goshboots 10-14-2007, 10:59 PM I'm not making the exact opposite argument. The argument I'm making is that UM still stands up to most programs, but falls short in the area of NC's and Bowl wins, and has never gone into the toilet like these other programs. That doesn;t mean I'm happy, it just means that it's a hard choice to say who you'd switch with.
The question was: Who would you switch with RIGHT NOW. Right now, especially with Lloyd on the brink of hanging it up, that is an extremely tough choice.
You need to be a tad more cogent. If you'd switch with Miami RIGHT NOW, you're a fool. Also, I like the phrase "to name a few" as in "Well, that damn Sam Houston State looks pretty good to me"
I said be objective.
RIGHT NOW who would you switch with? That doesn't mean who has the best last thirty years, or who just won a Nayshinal Chaympionship. Looking forward, and taking into account the past, who would your switch with?
I'll give you Ohio State. I'll give you USC. With Urban Meyer, possibly Florida. Oklahoma is pretty tantalizing. That's it, though, for me.
Tahoe 10-15-2007, 05:10 PM Nebraska AD fired
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska athletic director Steve Pederson was fired Monday, two days after the school's once-mighty football team was rocked with its worst home loss in nearly a half-century.
Pederson, along with coach Bill Callahan, has been heavily criticized after a series of one-sided losses this season. The most recent was a 45-14 loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday with former Cornhuskers coach Tom Osborne and his 1997 national title team in attendance.
Over the past two weeks, the Huskers (4-3) have lost by a combined margin of 86-20, dropping a 41-6 decision at Missouri two weeks ago. "We are, of course, disappointed about the progress in our football program," Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman said in a news release. "Steve has done many positive things for Husker athletics during his tenure, but I think only new leadership can objectively assess the state of our program and make the decisions necessary to move us forward."
Zip Goshboots 10-15-2007, 07:10 PM HOLY SHEEEE-IT!
Big cay in the Land of Corn. The AD is OOT, and that means Bill Callahan is now in the Death Pool.
They do not fuck around in Nebraska.
Bill Martin would have lasted four minutes here.
Tahoe 10-16-2007, 03:58 PM Millen wouldn't have lasted long either.
Tom Osbourne expected to be announced as the new AD at presser today.
Zip Goshboots 10-16-2007, 04:18 PM That's always my advice: To move forward, go back to the past! Honestly, Osborne is 70 years old and has been away for 10 years now, hyping the Conservative agenda in Washington (which is weird, because as a coach, he was very liberal: Hated standardized testing, was very sensitive to black athletes, felt there were cultural biases and prejudices they were up against).
Anyway, he'll probably be here for a couple years, and the next AD will be a guy named Paul Meyers, whose resignation as chief fundraiser led to Pederson getting the ax (final straw).
Lots of people out there in the sporting world who look qualified to come to Lincoln when the dust settles: The Georgia AD was born in Omaha, Ron Prince of Kansas State is an Omaha native, and Johnny Carson was born here, too.
Looks like you will have Nebraska and possibly Michigan looking for a new coach tafter this season. Could be interesting...
Tahoe 10-16-2007, 04:22 PM When i read that, I was all, Is he still alive?
A lot of these academians (my made up word) fear change. Lets do the safe thing.
Tahoe 10-16-2007, 04:24 PM My bad on all of this...he is expected to be named the Interim AD. That makes more sense.
Zip Goshboots 10-16-2007, 04:34 PM Yeah, interim makes sense.
I've seen him in person. Dude is like 6'6. He's the Paul Bunyan of the Plains.
This has been a 5 year soap opera. When Pederson canned Solich, you couldn;t find anyone out here who wouldn't have minded if Solich was put in a garbage disposal and ground up into little bits.
After one year, it was "What the FUCK did they do to Solich?
Then they beat (who else) Michigan, and it was all "We're BAAAAACK! Yay Calahan, KILL SOLICH!"
This year, it's back to "Why, oh WHY did you can Solich?"
These people are morons.
Wizzle 10-31-2007, 03:31 PM http://www.aolcdn.com/aolpolltool/tim-tebow-girl
Probably not that bad to be Tim Tebow
Wilfredo Ledezma 10-31-2007, 04:37 PM God...life must be great when your a QB for a middle-of-the-pack SEC Team...
One could only imagine what Matt Flynn's girlfriend looks like...

Thems are some nice footballz
Timone 10-31-2007, 04:50 PM Um, my last name's not Tebow...

I don't get why the announcer has to bring up the fact Joiner is African-American and Tebow is white. LOVE IS COLOR BLIND!!
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-01-2007, 10:23 AM We all know what kind of measures Joiner will go to, to help out his girlfriend...
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-03-2007, 01:27 PM God I can't stand watching Penn State...
or Andre Ware's voice
HipDigIt 11-03-2007, 08:21 PM Kansas rang up 76 on Husker Doo? Jesus the shuckers must all be on suicide watch.
Zip Goshboots 11-03-2007, 09:12 PM Not at all. They've taken Joel (bukdow's) approach: At this point, it's a joke, and the more losses mean that Callahan is gone. No doubt. They'll bring in Turner Gill and go back to the option, and Tom Osborn will be the AD for another two years, and they'll all have boners and think everything is fine.
xanadu 11-04-2007, 01:02 AM How many more recruits does notre dame get for losing to navy? That kids still want to play for weiss at this point is an achievement in and of itself.
HipDigIt 11-04-2007, 09:52 AM How many more recruits does notre dame get for losing to navy? That kids still want to play for weiss at this point is an achievement in and of itself.
....a mass exodus from the Fainting Irish verbal list. There have been at least 4 according to Rivals thus far, in the last 3 weeks. Then again they got Jonas Gray. The thing ND has going for them is, if a kid has a brain in his head, the "ND Network" in business is HUGE. A grad from there, especially one who can say "he played the game there," will not want for much in the way of "opps" down the road off the field. Personally I hate them almost as much as A2 so I'd never be smart enough to take advantage of those "opps."

Agree, I'll never understand it...
Wilfredo Ledezma 11-06-2007, 02:26 PM LOL I just watched a Mark Mangino presser on ESPNEWS, and he burps and excuses himself halfway through...
LMFAO! I will try and find an online clip and post it...it's priceless
Timone 11-15-2007, 10:02 PM Oregon down 24-11 in the 2nd, Dixon is out with a sprained knee.
Timone 11-15-2007, 10:14 PM 32-11.
Tahoe 11-16-2007, 08:42 PM From a bad loss last night to a really bad loss today, QB Dixon out for the season.
Baker 11-19-2007, 03:42 PM Here is my prediction:
I can't believe I'm predicting this (7-5). I said for the last few months that the Spartans wouldn't make a bowl, however as the season approaches, I guess my homerism comes into play. I won't be one bit disappointed by a 6-6 finish though which is more likely because of it being first MD year. Underselling? Should've predicted a NC I guess.
Timone 11-19-2007, 03:43 PM Hope you're enjoying it bukdow, wherever you may be.
All signs now point to the return of DrTre. He was the one who made the 7-5 prediction after all...
Glenn 11-24-2007, 08:45 AM That LSU/Arkansas game was awesome.
Even though he lost, I really like Matt Flynn.
Danielson was pretty harsh on Miles, basically saying his timeout strategy cost them the game.
McFadden playing QB was very odd, but very entertaining.

bummed I missed this one
Glenn 11-24-2007, 08:08 PM Who would have thought a Kansas v. Mizzou football game could mean this much?
It's on ABC right now, btw
Timone 11-24-2007, 08:16 PM Nothing better than cold weather football. Rooting for Mizzou.
Glenn 11-24-2007, 08:21 PM I'm under the blue "Rock Chalk Jayhawk" tent
Got 140 alpacas on 'em
I think I've gone against Mizzou every week in the WTF college pick 'em. Even with the spread, I don't think that strategy has gone too well.
Timone 11-24-2007, 08:22 PM I hate Mangino.
Timone 11-24-2007, 08:26 PM Fucking Tim Tebow, man...
Glenn 11-24-2007, 08:27 PM I wonder if Mangino is related to Mangini?
Timone 11-24-2007, 08:29 PM I think he, Mangini, Weis, and Jabba the Hut are all related.
Oh, and also rapper Big Pun:

Tahoe 11-24-2007, 08:30 PM I like these kind of games where both teams are going balls out.
Timone 11-24-2007, 08:31 PM The game has intrigued me and it's only 8 or so minutes in and no points on the board. I don't think it'll end up being like all those other hyped games where both teams are playing well defensively, the crowd's into it, and it turns into a blowout like so many we've seen before.
Timone 11-24-2007, 08:39 PM Tony Temple with a Javon Ringer like run there.
Timone 11-24-2007, 09:02 PM Wow! What a hit. Holding on the Kansas Glenns though.
Timone 11-24-2007, 11:52 PM Pretty good game, it's a treat to watch Mizzou.

Timone 11-28-2007, 06:14 PM Wisconsin to the Outback Bowl.
Glenn 12-07-2007, 03:36 PM Appalachian St on ESPN2 tonight at 8 pm in a 1AA playoff game.
FillyCheezeSteak 12-07-2007, 09:25 PM Armanti Edwards is effing sick. He has 200 yards rushing with 9 minutes left in the 2nd quarter...............yes I said 2nd quarter.
