An explanation on Rose

Before the rumor mill churns out of control, nobody should be leaping to conclusions about what Jalen Rose said Sunday. Like I wrote, you never know when Jalen is pulling your leg. But he did intimate that the door wasn't closed on him coming home and being a Piston -- perhaps even this year. That may be what Jalen wants, it may not be what the Pistons want -- at least not at this time.

Pistons president Joe Dumars isn't ready to make any roster changes right now. Early reports are that Chauncey Billups could be back earlier than the 14-day prognosis. More will be known after Billups has an MRI Tuesday. So, everything is status quo right now. There is no urgency for the Pistons to make roster moves.

And let me say this -- Dumars would never trade a prospect like Amir Johnson for a player nearing the end of his career like Rose. I didn't mean to suggest he ever would. I threw Johnson's name in there, with Flip Murray's and a draft pick just to show a range of players that would match Rose's $1.86 million contract.

There has been no specific trade talk between the Suns and the Pistons -- OK? Clear? Rose doesn't want to end the season anchored to the bench in Phoenix. He wants to play and compete and maybe earn himself another contract for next season. No question he would like to come home and play. But, right now, that is just his dream. Which is why he planted that little "never say never" seed Sunday. Could it happen? Sure. Is it in the works right now? No.

Happy New Year....

JS to McClueless....READ THE CBA, YOU WORK AS A NBA BEAT WRITER, YOU SHOULD KNOW YOU DON'T NEED TO MATCH DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR IN TRADES, JACKASS.

I hate to be such a jerk myself because I like that McCosky is thinking on his own, but he really needs to up his knowledge of how trades work. First of all, if we give up Flip the contract's comply with the CBA so no other guy is needed. If we are trading a pick for Rose we have a TE to cover the trade. There no way Joe would trade Flip, Johnson and a pick for Rose who Joe could have had for the vet's min if he expressed interest.

The way I read it, he suggested Amir OR Flip OR a draft pick (presumably with the TE), not all three in a package. Could be wrong, but that's how I interpreted it.

That all the recent talk about Jalen Rose winding up this season in his home town of Detroit was started by none other than Jalen Rose. Rose, no doubt, is aware Suns coaches now think he is just too slow to keep up with their pace.

More on the rumored "second buyout" for Jalen Rose.

If and when the Knicks reach a settlement with Francis, he would join Maurice Taylor and Jalen Rose - who is expected to get a buyout from Phoenix in upcoming weeks - as the third high-priced veteran to receive a lucrative deal not to play for the Knicks this season.

Glen Rice and Terry Mills > Chris Webber and Jalen Rose

(and in general, I'd take the 1989 team that actually won the NCAA championship over the Fab Also-Rans)
