View Full Version : The Most Wonderful Week of the Year
MoTown 12-29-2006, 02:45 PM Clemson STRUGGLING against Kentucky right now. I can't see the game being at work, but there have to be some weird weather conditions going on - a couple of missed short field goals, 9 yard punts....
Either bad weather or these teams really suck.
Oregon State and Missouri is pretty entertaining so far....
MoTown 12-29-2006, 02:54 PM I guess I was way off.
Current weather conditions in Nashville: 67 and Sunny, wind from the NNE at 1 mph.
So in other words - REALLY BAD FOOTBALL.
Ive been watching the game... err, had it on in the background. Just shoddy play. In the first half there were something like three turnovers in five plays, teams just kept giving it back. I think there was a missed XP by Clemson as well.
Baker 12-29-2006, 03:41 PM A bunch of pointless games that are only around to make rich people more rich. There are a handful of games that are worth watching if that.
Sorry, but the best week of the year starts in March.
MoTown 12-29-2006, 03:51 PM I agree with you that March Madness is three times as fun as bowl week, but still....
don't be a downer.
It is the most wonderful week left in this year ;)
detroitsportscity 12-29-2006, 05:14 PM Houston/USC is a pretty fun game to watch so far.
Even if Spurrier's CB's are mentally retarded, and Houston has to guess a little too much to match up with USC.
Houston has 4th and goal from the 50. Not that any of us care, but had to be mentioned. That takes talent if I ever saw it.
MoTown 12-29-2006, 11:49 PM Anyone watching the Minnesota/Tex Tech game?? This is amazing - Tech was down 38 to 7 in the mid 3rd quarter and they tied it at 38 with a field goal as time expires!
Amazing game!
Jethro34 12-30-2006, 09:56 AM Not at all the most wonderful week. But New Year's Day is one of the best days of the year. It used to be even better before they moved the championship game to practically February.
I would have to say the two best days of the year are the first two days of the NCAA tourney. 32 games in less than 40 hours. It's freaking awesome.
Football could blow that out of the water if they ever went to a playoff of more than 4 teams, but I've been holding my breath on that way too long.
HipDigIt 12-30-2006, 10:01 AM I don't care if you bet these games, play in pools, or just prognosticate for fun on your own sheet. These games are MISSION IMPOSSIBLE! That UCLA team that showed up in San Francisco to take on woefully inept FSU was not the same bunch that shut down USC. These were 60 teen agers on shore leave from Westwood. What a fucking joke! The 'Noles ring up 42 on a "D" that held USC to NINE? That is just WRONG!!
Zip Goshboots 12-30-2006, 11:43 AM I agree hipdiggity.
If I am a college football player, and my tema rolls into a California or Florida beach town, and it's 80, sunny, and there is nothing but poo-say walking around, fuck football.
Especially if I'm a star player. I would be out partying and banging chicks and the LAST thing on my mind would be some lame bowl game that doesn't mean jack shit to anybody.
The problem with some teams not showing up is that they havent played for a month or more. I always thought they should move the season back or something, give teams a week or two off instead of five or six weeks.

The problem is that there is way too much time in between the end of the regular season and bowl games. Teams get out of sync, they lose some chemistry, its terrible. Bowl games are almost an entire new season now. Especially the Championship game. College football just does a lot of things wrong.
With that said, I'm looking forward to watching the Rose Bowl and the Championship game.
Zip Goshboots 12-30-2006, 04:34 PM I usually don't get into talking about football announcers on ESPN.
It's kind of a "scoreboard" thing with me: They are on TV, while I'm a paperboy who lives in a dumpster.
Having said that, Mark May is a fucking idiot.
Zip Goshboots 12-30-2006, 04:37 PM Gotta get this prediction in:
Alamo Bowl:
Texas 47
iowa 12
MoTown 12-30-2006, 09:13 PM Just an FYI: I labeled this "The Most Wonderful Week of the Year" because that's what bowl week has been labeled for years by ESPN. I don't actually believe that and this thread was not for that controversy.
Anyways...
Iowa got SCREWED tonight.
The Big Ten is looking good, then blowing it at the very end.
Zip Goshboots 12-30-2006, 09:15 PM How can it be the "Most wonderful week" when the kids are out of school?
How can it be the "Most wonderful week" when the kids are out of school?
Because I dont have kids?

Zip Goshboots 12-30-2006, 11:06 PM DING DING DOING
We have a winner!
First place is a FREE VASECTOME!!!
Zip Goshboots 12-30-2006, 11:07 PM My Texas-Iowa prediction was a little off, but on the bright side, I was only 9 off on the TOTAL points in the game.
you have to admit, that's pretty good.
MoTown 01-01-2007, 03:40 PM Did anyone see the Nevada leg catch from last night that the refs botched?
That was an ugly game between Wis and Ark. I dont feel bad about it though because UW defense shut down Ark. 12-1 woohoo!!

Wisconsin did it quietly, but had a very good year! You ought to bitch like the UM fans and claim that if the UW-UM game was in Wisconsin/Neutral Field, Wisconsin would have been in the title game. haha

lol No, we lost and Im cool with that.
Moodini31 01-01-2007, 10:36 PM Wisconsin is a solid team and this proves that Florida's "big win" over Arkansas to get them into the title game is a joke. Congrats UxKa and the Baadgers on a great, under the radar season.

Why was it a joke? Arkansas #12 lost to #6 Wisconsin by 3. It's a good thing that game did propel them to the title game, because had it not, UM would have been there and they are clearly not the #2 team. The only thing better than Florida jumping UM would have been USC beating UCLA. Then we would have had a true #1 vs. #2.

How can you say USC is a "true #2" if they lost 2 games to unranked teams? And Arkansas is a joke, they are a 4 loss team with no passing game..
darkobetterthanmelo 01-02-2007, 12:36 AM OH my God, Boise State just had a hook and ladder play to get the game into OT vs oklahoma.
Unibomber 01-02-2007, 03:13 AM Ian Johnson = my fucking hero.
Gets in on the two-point conversion to win the game, then proposes to his cheerleader girlfriend on national television.
Hot fuckin' damn.
WTFchris 01-02-2007, 10:10 AM damn you ESPN. Their highlights on ESPN.com are just of the coach talking. It says "trick plays" under the video but shows no highlights at all. thanks for nothing.
WTFchris 01-02-2007, 10:12 AM BTW, this week would be a lot better if the two crap bowls weren't after new year's day and the championship wasn't a weak away. Why have the NCAA title game after week 1 of the NFL playoffs? Stupid.
Moodini31 01-02-2007, 12:36 PM Wow, that Fiesta bowl between Boise and OU may have been one of the best games ever. A pick six with under 2:00 to go to put OU up 7? 4th and 18 with under 20 seconds to go and Boise runs a hook and ladder to tie the game? "AD" Peterson rips off a 25 yard TD to start OT? Boise runs an HB option pass on 4th down for a TD? BOISE GOES FOR 2 BY FAKING A PASS TO THE RIGHT AND HANDS THE BALL OFF BEHIND HIS BACK TO IAN JOHNSON FOR A 2 POINT CONVERSION AND THE WIN! [smilie=stunned.gif] Wow!
Much props to Boise for hanging with and beating one of the big boys. Now, if only there was a tournament we could find out how good they really are. Undefeated, Fiesta Bowl victory over Oklahoma and no shot at the title. JOKE.
Boise runs an exciting, aggressive offense. That's the type (maybe to a lesser extent) of offense that Michigan needs to run. It's sad to see a team like Boise be innovative and have success, when one of the elite traditional powers in college football is still stuck in the dinosaur age.

I was wondering if we'd get some visits from our Oklahoma fans today...
WTFchris 01-02-2007, 02:12 PM For those too pissed to watch more football last night (like me), there are good highlights on the Fox Sports site.
Baker 01-02-2007, 05:37 PM Where is cccsdad??????
Baker 01-02-2007, 05:39 PM How can you say USC is a "true #2" if they lost 2 games to unranked teams? And Arkansas is a joke, they are a 4 loss team with no passing game..
Same reason why I said I thought they had the best defense and you ripped me for it. That is what I see. I watch USC and they look like the 2nd best team. Did they blow it? Yup. Should they have been in the title game? Nope. But when I watch them, they look like the 2nd best team to me.
Moodini31 01-03-2007, 10:47 PM Does anyone else thing that college football on FOX is BUSH? AAAAH! It just doesn't feel right, and I can't stand it. Matt Vasgergian calling the Orange Bowl with Pat Haden? AAAAH! Kenny Albert calling the Sugar Bowl with Howie Long and Terry Bradshaw? WTF? And then we have the sideline chicks who look like they've been run over by trains. UGH. This really sucks!
I'm already dreading watching the MNC game with Barry Alvarez and those other clowns. [smilie=puker.gif]
WTFchris 01-04-2007, 08:58 AM Last nights sounded better, but the other bowls on Fox were done terrible. I watched a couple of them on new year's day and the audio was barely audible some times. It was produced very poorly. Last night you could hear fine, they just weren't great announcers.
BTW, I love ND getting beat down for the 9th straight bowl game. They are such frauds.
Moodini31 01-05-2007, 04:46 PM TV ratings for the BCS games-
Rose Bowl (USC vs Michigan)
14.5 Rating/24 Share (17.9/35 in Los Angeles and 27.8/43 in Detroit)
Fiesta Bowl (Boise State vs Oklahoma)
8.6 Rating/15 Share (compared to 13.6/22 for OSU-ND previous year)
Orange Bowl (Louisville vs Wake Forest)
5.9 Rating/9 Share (6.3/18 for Florida State-Penn State last year)
Sugar Bowl (Notre Dame vs LSU)
10.0 Rating/16 Share
Do you think the ratings for the MNC game will top the Rose Bowl?
Zip Goshboots 01-05-2007, 05:09 PM I DO think the game between OSU and Florida will top the Rose Bowl. But the fact that the Sugar had a 10 shows why Notre Dame is always going to be in the mix.
On a somber note, that's a lot of TV's tuned in to see Lloyd lay his annual New Years Day Egg.
