View Full Version : Trouble brewing?

Detroit has its own go-to post player in Wallace, who nailed a bank shot with 4:22 left and looked to be heating up. But after that shot, the Pistons did not get the ball in Wallace's hands the rest of the game.
"They did what you're supposed to do in the crunch," said Wallace, who scored 14. "When you've got a team on the ropes, go inside. Maybe that should be a lesson for us."
Wallace appeared frustrated at times Wednesday, and not just with the officiating. With the Pacers often fronting him, his teammates looked elsewhere for offensive answers, but none were found.
Shooting guard Richard Hamilton made just six of 19 shots in nearly 46 minutes. He scored 18 points. Billups shot 5-for-13, scoring 22.
"There was a little bit of frustration with some things," Wallace said. "But I'm not going to air things out now. That's for our locker room. But hey, that's part of it."
Wallace insisted that overall, the state of the Pistons' locker room is still unified and strong.
"We're still on the same page," Wallace said. "There's no different pages in the book."
geerussell 12-14-2006, 11:30 AM This could be trouble but on the other hand if this means we're going to see Sheed being active, going low and demanding the ball then it might be a very, very good thing. If that's the case then I welcome him going into the locker room and rattling some cages to make it happen.
Ultimately it's going to be Sheed's play that sets the ceiling on how far this team can go in the playoffs. I want him fired up.
Higherwarrior 12-14-2006, 03:32 PM i'd move sheed in a heartbeat for a deal for iverson. but joe doesn't want to break up the core. not sure why because we're not winning a title like this.
but glad to see sheed is fired up. we need more of that. can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs. ;)

Dennis Chiwilka (Shelby Township): I don’t understand what’s going on with Rasheed. Why won’t they give him the ball in the post?
Dumars: That’s a two-way street. Sometimes he has to get there and call for it. Sometimes Rasheed doesn’t get there and demand the ball in the post. Sometimes that’s the issue as much as the guys not getting him the ball in the post. Rasheed is not a guy who you’re going to throw it to him in the post for 48 minutes. He’s just not that type of player. He’s going to float out to the 3-point line, he’s going to pick and roll, he’s going to pick and pop. He’s going to move around a lot out on the floor. Me, personally, I would love to see him down on the block a whole lot more, but I also understand that you have to allow a guy to play and feel comfortable on the court. Usually what you see is that, when the game gets tight, gets to the fourth quarter or any part of the game where it gets really, really tough and we need a basket, rest assured that he’ll go down there then. He understands how good he is on the post but he doesn’t want to be saddled to have to play that position for the entire 48 minutes. He usually gets down there when things get really tight, though.
Jethro34 12-14-2006, 05:53 PM Wow, my first reaction was the same. I would love to see Sheed in the post down the stretch. What a freaking novel idea. Unfortunately, he's more accustomed to jacking up three's down the stretch. If a loss like this is what it takes for him to convince himself that he needs to be a more consistent post player, it was worth it.
b-diddy 12-14-2006, 06:05 PM joe nailed it. also, i cant see how this could be spinned as 'trouble brewing'. this article has made me the most optimistic about the pisonts in months.
sheed WANTS the ball more in the post? and were not getting it to him? wtf??
if he puts in the work of getting into position, we better get him the ball. and if we dont, sheed is more than entitled to bitch.
this is like ben saying we dont play d. its a positive that he's bringing it up. and quite frankly, im shocked.
Tahoe 12-14-2006, 08:01 PM Maybe Sheeds fighting for all those possesions Ben used to get. All 2 of them.
metr0man 12-14-2006, 08:33 PM I can't say I disagree with Sheed or Joe D there. Flip is really the one who needs to get on em to get it more into the post, but we all know Flip doesn't really care about inside scoring. He's all about jump shooting only, err I mean "high assist low turnover offense". and 3s. "We'd have to shoot 61% on our twos to match our three-point output."

If you call them the pisonts again, I will go Ron Lee on you and squeeze your melon like a grape!
Glenn 12-15-2006, 08:52 AM I'm a bit surprised that I'm the only one that views this as a potential problem.
Sure, we'd all like to see Sheed down in the paint more, but if he tried and they didn't get him the ball, why does that mean he'll keep trying more?
To me, this sounds like trouble in the lockeroom. Maybe it's not major, but I really think there is something there. Maybe it goes back to Sheed wanting to be named a captain and not getting selected?
I know that some here have questioned Billups' leadership abilities, and maybe there is something to that after all.
Black Dynamite 12-15-2006, 09:29 AM I know that some here have questioned Billups' leadership abilities, and maybe there is something to that after all.
There probably is. But Muhme tells us everything goes through Billups. This Ben as a "defensive leader/heart and soul" thing is a myth fabricated by us.[smilie=bigshot.gif]
Seriously I dont think its a big deal. we will never have a completely happy group of campers. and somebody(typically frontline big men) will always be annoyed by flip's tactics and especially the inconsistent result of some of them. Rip=Nice guy, Billups=Nice Guy. Sheed=Philly Roscoe Speak how I wanna speak Playa, Tayshaun=Compton Quiet Guy closet weed blazer, Nazr=Journeyman stuck on playing time as the key to his enlightenment in this league. Thus Nazr, Sheed and Tay will have complaints sometimes.
I do think that Nazr and Flip Murray don't want to be here like Ben and others did before them. Just playing to the next FA market contract. I've never been a fan of that. Bitching about minutes to get your paper up? cool for you, but bad for the team. Bitching about getting the ball in the post because the only time your coach listens is when you bitch(Ben showed that last year)? Nothing wrong with that.
