JONES HAS LISFRANC FRACTURE?

An industry source in the Detroit area tells us that the Lions currently fear that running back Kevin Jones suffered a Lisfranc fracture in his foot against the Vikings on Sunday, which would wipe out the remainder of his 2006 season and call in question his availability for 2007.

Per the source, Jones was exhibiting symptoms of the Lisfranc fracture on Sunday night. More testing will be done on Monday to determine the specific extent of the injury.

Though the organization is hoping for the best, the source says that there is "definitely concern" about the situation within the building.

So now we have one proven player on this team (Roy)? oh boy. I heard sometimes they are career threatening injuries. Start the Adrian Peterson talks.

I could see him being out for a long time if it is broken with some ligament damage. How can you cut with bad wheel?

This team is doomed.

I believe this is the same injury that Teddy Lehman suffered. It is a difficult and complicated injury to recover from.

Good luck with that. I had that happen along with a couple other things over 3 1/2 years ago and I still have problems. Havent really played the slightest bit of sports since. My foot still hurts a lot and theres certain ways Ill never be able to put weight on it again. Too bad for him, I hope he can come back.

I honestly don't know why I even follow this team, its like a sick addiction of mine to see how much worse they can get. I mean in a time when any year any team can have a playoff season this team has consistently been a pile of shit. It's almost as if Millen's trying to stockpile great draft picks and waste them on players at spots we don't need. And now KJ is out??? wtf, just hope we get adrian petersen cuz i donno how much pretty boy quinn can do for us now.

coincidence, i was looking for a reason to bring up why i think we should draft peterson, and up pops this thread.

watching tomlinson go nuts on the nfl has made me yearn for the days of barry sanders. how much fun was it following barry's chase for 2000.

if we get the #1 pick, we cant trade down. we dont have anything built, so we might as well start at ground zero and take a stud like peterson. besides, i've seen millen blow just about every other pick, i want to see him blow the #1 pick, and complete his resume.

and yes, this is me giving up hope that the lions will figure out how to be competitive for atleast 5-10 years, so im just pining for SOMETHING to get excited about. a stud running back would be enough for me.

Peterson won't be able to do shit behind this pathetic OLine.

Addressing the OLine has to be our first (second and third) priority this offseason. Even an average back looks good behind a good OL.

--Jason Hanson makes a last second field goal vs. the Saints last season, costing the Lions the #2 draft position

--The Texans inexplicably pass on Reggie Bush, meaning that he would have been there for the taking (if Millen would have taken him).

--KJ now seriously hurt

Funny how things work out.

IMO you don't draft a first round RB. Jones may miss half of next season, but he's still our future back IMO. Westbrook had this injury too and he's come back good.

It's too bad Calhoun is out too. I'd like to see if he's ready to carry the load next year until KJ is back. If i'm the GM, I sign a FA back to buy time (maybe Duce Staley) and see if he can fill in until Jones is back.

We still need a defensive playmaker or an OL with our first pick. The best senario would be to get the #1 and hope the Raiders are really high on Quinn and want to trade up (or another team in the top 10).

Lions' Jones has Lisfranc sprain

By Len Pasquarelli
ESPN.com

Starting tailback Kevin Jones, who suffered a left foot injury during Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings will miss the final three games of the Detroit Lions' season. And Jones, along with team officials, are concerned that the three-year veteran might not be fully rehabilitated in time for camp next summer.

Jones was diagnosed with a Lisfranc sprain, which is more accurately a fracture or dislocation of a group of bones and connective tissue at the top of the mid-foot area, and faces a lengthy rehabilitation. Lisfranc-type injuries were not even in the NFL lexicon until a few years ago, but are increasingly common now.

Such injuries, and the rehabilitation resulting from them, can be very tricky, because of the delicate nature of the tissues involved, and the typically slow healing time for many foot injuries.

The injury occurred in the fourth quarter of the game, when Jones planted his left foot as he neared the goal line, and his foot stuck in the turf. Jones described the pain as "the worst" he had ever experienced during his football career.

Jones was examined by a specialist in the Detroit area on Monday. On Tuesday, he will travel to Charlotte, N.C., for a second opinion on the foot, but is all but resigned to surgery.

Lions linebacker Teddy Lehman, who had 2005 surgery to repair a Lisfranc injury, needed more than a year to recover, and still has pain and stiffness in his foot, he said. Other players with similar injuries have recovered quicker, but the track record for coming back from Lisfranc injuries has been unpredictable.

"Whatever I do [in terms of treatment], I want to do it pretty quickly, so I can start rehabbing as fast as possible," Jones said. "I mean, I know this is pretty bad, but I can overcome it with hard work. I'll do what [the doctors] tell me, but I'm going to work as hard as possible to make this as short as it can be."

The loss of Jones, the Lions' first-round pick in the 2004 draft, could well have both short- and long-term ramifications for the team. His top two backups at the start of the season, Shawn Bryson and rookie Brian Calhoun, are both on injured reserve. The only two tailbacks on the active roster are journeymen Arlen Harris and Aveion Cason, so the Lions may have to sign another runner for the final three games.

And if Detroit can't count on Jones for the start of camp in July, or perhaps the beginning of next season even, if could affect the Lions' plans for the 2007 draft.

In 12 games this season, Jones carried 181 time for 689 yards and six touchdowns, for a Detroit unit that ranks last in the NFL in rushing yardage. The former Virginia Tech standout rushed for 1,133 yards as a rookie in 2004, then his production dropped to 664 yards in 2005.

Jones, 24, has 608 career carries for 2,486 yards and 16 touchdowns and also has registered 109 catches for 809 yards and three touchdowns. He has appeared in 40 games with 39 starts.

on a positive note, Lehman was not diagnosed right away and walked on it for days/weeks before finding out what it was. He might have done more damage than Jones will have.

adrian peterson must play for oakland. he has a bo jackson style combination of speed, power, and athletic skill. you guys can have quinn aka the most overrated draft prospect in years..

lets assume the lions dont blow it in green bay, and lose out the rest of the year. we'll assume oakland does the same. who wins the tie breaker? will the lions putrid division do us some good ?

I think the Lions get the #1 because of a weaker conference/strength of schedule. I'm not positive since I haven't done the math, but they are #1 in all the mock draft sites.

So as of right now, we'd have the number one pick but that could change since we have a much tougher last 3 games than they do...

I really don't feel like doing the math but it's probably going down to the wire as long as neither team wins again.

Oakland is favored by three points this weekend, believe it or not.
