I love Lindsey's energy and defense but he needs to retire.

As soon as Lindsey enters the game, our half-court offense comes to a crashing halt. Neither Lindsey or FlipM can play the position without stagnating the offense in one way or another.

I would much rather see Blalock out there.

you and me both. i'm a huge hunter fan too, but the reality is he's killing us.

he needs to retire to the bench or the front office. put blalock in and let's fast forward his development.

play him 10 minutes a night and everything else goes to flip and delfy.

Or we could trade DD for some point guard that would leave after the season's over.

I'm not sure if Blalock is ready but really, Hunter needs to get out

It's been a long time coming.

He's been nothing more than a situational "change of pace" PG for two years at least, and he has been over/misused by Flip.

I still don't get that contract length/$$.

I believe this is his last year and he'll be Dumar's assistant next year.

There are some rumblings that Mike James might become available from the TWolves, so that could be a possibility.

Delfino should play backup PG until we get this squared away long-term (possibly with Blalock).

Put Delfino in with Lindsey if he can't defend some littler opposing PG.

Please god, don't let Lindsey bring up the ball on a fastbreak!

Mike James is having a horrible year so far

Yes, which is why he might be available.

I'd do it. James is a cult hero in Detroit.

Way to pull out a sweet name from the past, Higherwarrior! I just laughed out loud.

I would much rather see Blalock out there.

In lieu of a trade/signing, he should be out there, or as Mxy mentioned Delfino should be getting some minutes at PG.

No reason to be playing Lindsey in December, especially if he's hurt already.

Send him home and tell him to be ready for some spot duty during the last few weeks of the regular season and the playoffs.

Hunter out

When you are 36 years old and your Achilles tendon starts barking, you listen and you react. Lindsey Hunter is going to shut it down for at least a couple of weeks (probably longer) to see if he can quiet his aching right Achilles.

He injured it in practice the Monday before the Miami game. He first rolled his right ankle, then the pain moved into the Achilles area. The ankle healed somewhat, the Achilles hasn't. Nobody knows how long he will be out -- but you can bet the Pistons will proceed with caution. If the Achilles tendon rips, Hunter's playing career will be over.

Don't underestimate the significance of this loss. Hunter's on-ball defense, his quickness in the zone and on traps, plus his ability to push the ball and get the Pistons into their offensive sets quickly are key components. Flip Murray will be Chauncey Billups' primary back-up. He struggled in that role earlier this season. Rookie Will Blalock will be activated as the No. 3 point guard. With Hunter hurting, his minutes had been short of late, which means Billups' work load has been heavy. Flip Saunders is in a tough spot here, especially if Murray falters. He may have to throw young Blalock to the wolves a little bit -- if, for no other reason, than to give Joe Dumars a better idea of whether or not the Pistons are eventually going to have to bring in another point guard.

Which brings up another topic -- Mike James ain't coming back, folks. Is he happy in Minnesota? No, not right now. He's struggling, he's not playing down the stretch, there are too many guys who do the same thing he does (Ricky Davis, Troy Hudson, Randy Foye, etc). All of that is true. But even if Minnesota tries to move him, the Pistons (unless, knock on wood, Billups gets hurt) aren't interested. Why? Because James just signed a four-year, $24.6 million contract. You don't pay $6 million a year for a back-up point guard. Especially not when you know you are going to have to cough up something real close to a max deal to keep your starting point guard next summer. If the Pistons feel like they have to go out and get another experienced point, if they are certain that Hunter won't be back for a long time, then they might make a play for somebody like Charlotte's Brevin Knight, who is in the final year of his contract. I am not saying they are targeting Knight, I am just saying that's the kind of guy who would fit the bill -- veteran, last year of his contract, wouldn't cost the Pistons any of their core players.

I thought James made MLE money. There is no way we trade for him unless its next year (If billups shuns us). we'd have 17-20 mil locked up in PG's for years.

Edit- I replied before seeing your post Glenn. Looks like the Chris's have it. 20+ mil a year for PG's is too much.

pennypincher agrees.

besides, joe needs to find a diamond in the rough. james is fairly compensated to overpaid. since when do we bring those guys in? theres a steal out there somewhere. with lindsey out, does this force joe's hand, though? anyone know who the expiring pg's are?

What? Delfino is a natural spot-up shooter. That's all he should be doing.
